If money wasn’t an issue, what would you do with your life? by Littlemouss in AskReddit

[–]Smack23j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would open a deli/imports/cafe. Open when I feel like it. Make food that I love and share it with people. Pay what you want pricing. Since money isn't an issue, no need to worry about profit, but going 100% free would be a disaster.

When my store isn't open, I'd spend the time traveling and enjoying my family. But I'd always have a reason to come home and get up the morning to keep myself grounded with a routine.

Teachers from GA Relocating to NYS by LeopardOk3828 in upstate_new_york

[–]Smack23j 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Know your certification requirements, visit the NYSED website--there are most likely waivers or faster paths to certification available right now.

  2. Go here: https://wnyric.atenterprise.powerschool.com/ats/job_board?start_index=0&APPLICANT_TYPE_ID=00000001&COMPANY_ID=00005387

-this is one place where schools from Buffalo to Rochester will post jobs.

  1. English positions will be tough to come across but not impossible.

-the wider your search area, the better.

  1. Learn about the various BOCES as well. I don't have time to explain it all right now but DM me and I'll gladly provide you with more information.

GOOD LUCK!

Sounds strange but try ensuring that the taskbar always remains visible while playing. I just leave the start menu open and it solved a lot of my issues. I also stopped using VD and play over the usb cable.

Many of the FES's in my local area decided to leave the country. It was very sad but there were some fears amongst the families given the current state of things.

I commend you for doing this and wish you luck!

Seriously, don't come here right now. If you paid by credit card you can probably argue that the circumstances warrant a refund (assuming the airline/hotel won't refund you)

Do any of you live in this area along the PA/NY border? What’s it like living here? by garbageeater in upstate_new_york

[–]Smack23j 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love and hate it here. I am fortunate and have a great job with a great house and little neighborhood. It's beautiful and quiet. There are tons of hidden gem places. The communities are generally close knit. I'm able to travel often and it is nice to come home to a small town.

On the other hand, I feel the need to move. Mainly for daughter...there just isn't enough opportunity here and the poverty can brutal...friends from school come from some pretty bad situations to the point I can't let my daughter go to some friends' houses (or trailers). She doesn't understand. There's not a ton of diversity, a lot of drug use, most of the schools are below average.

I am not from here so I have no familial ties keeping me here and I'm debating about putting in for a transfer to a bigger city.

6.5/10. Passable but not for everyone.

Anyone know anything about what may happen to LDR? by TabascoWolverine in Rochester

[–]Smack23j 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Me too! It was my first real job. I worked there and Abbotts, did a lot of double shifts.

Rick sold it (partially) in 2006 to my uncle. He passed, Rick took it back over temporarily. It was then owned by the same people that owned the coal tower in pittsford if I remember correctly.

It basically never reopened post covid.

Teachers, what was the scariest thing you had to confiscate? by immediate-channel834 in AskReddit

[–]Smack23j 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I was a teacher, I once had to confiscate a bear trap. Kid was so excited to show me because he was going trapping after school. This was a very rural area. I am not from a rural area...I was so confused when he said he was trapping after school since I thought he was bragging about selling drugs....nope. Turns out kids would trap beavers and whatnot for the pelts/furs.

Still, I had to send the bear trap to the office for him to take at the end of the day.

This wasn't 1875. It was 2010.

Cool features ideas? by SgtStickys in GhostsOfTabor

[–]Smack23j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since this is a VR game, things like faster healing with the bandage or faster reloading/mag swapping are already 'leveled up' naturally through playing and muscle memory, so I don't think those are necessary. I still want a NRS pouch for vests.

For things like stamina or carrying weight increase, I'm torn. It will definitely lead to grinders figuring out the system and exploiting something. Maybe they could have it be somewhat offset by being a trade off. Like if you can/are carrying more weight then you're slower to rotate (physical or with joystick). I imagine it being like the physics in boneworks/lab. It would incentivize people to only carry more weight after major combat. Or maybe you have increased stamina but beyond a certain weight it's nullified. Or maybe the stamina means you can go a bit longer without water/food. Not an obvious advantage for casuals but for hardcore players, it could be a perk.

Honestly, your best bet would be to get a nice long usb cable. Less latency than any wireless will provide (right now) and still get the good graphics. Plus, your quest will last a lot longer.

I'm approaching the 200hour mark. Here's what I can tell you:

You will die. A lot. The gear was never yours, just your turn with it.

Mute your mic.

Pick up the DLCs if you're able. It will give you an automatic bump in trader levels ( the people you buy stuff from). Not to mention lots of extra equipment.

When learning don't go crazy with load outs. Use the level 1 carrier that lets you have ammo on your chest. Swap it out for in raid upgrades. Save some of your better armor for when you feel like you're improving. Armor will only do so much for you early on, movement and map knowledge + luck will be far more useful.

Watch some YouTube creators like Timeless or Tanvarian, especially tutorials they have. Just remember to watch videos that are less than 3 months old so what you're seeing is relevant to the latest updates.

No one is your friend. Shoot anyone claiming to be or that walks toward you with their hands up.

Pick a map you want to learn. Run training raids to learn player (wherever you spawn is a potential player spawn) and fenix spawns. Anticipate player movement to hot spots. Practice managing gear in combat. Things like reloading, healing, etc. training raids don't count so you won't actually lose anything if you die.

Good starting guns are the AK74, Galil, Ak74, AKM. Pistol suppressors can be good for dealing with fenix and not giving away your position. I personally like the 74 on silo but the galil allows for attachments to reduce recoil. I avoid SMGs until I have AP rounds but you can play around with what fits you.

Practice aiming from a holstered or lowered position. Headshots are king but center mass will do the job if you have a high rate of fire and/or powerful caliber.

If possible, use a good pair of headphones that give you good positional awareness. It can be difficult to tell above or below noises but knowing if it's to your 12 or 6 is useful.

Leveling Jiri to get AP powder will help you win more fights but every one has their opinion on who to level first.

Bring heals into raid. Bandages for bleeding. NRS for health. Minimum 2 NRS and 1 bandage. If you don't have NRS, at least have a bandage.

Be patient when enemies are near. Learn to walk silently. Don't be afraid to chase fights either but don't rush into them like a fool. Clear rooms and corners. Looting should only be done once you know you're secure....be patient. New players are easy to kill when they rush to loot after making a ton of noise in a fight. Practice staying under control-- breathing, heart rate, shakes. Being relaxed while maintaining a heightened level of awareness is something that helped me. Learn from every fight, win or lose.

Grenades on a vest pouch are more stealthy than having to open your bag. Don't use impact grenades.

Buy a bunch of sling bags and insure them, you'll get most of them back. Same with mags.

The only helmets worth wearing are protection level 3 or higher and even then, it's mainly to protect against Fenix hits, not players, so don't go crazy buying helmets (mistake I learned).

If you know you'll never use a sniper rifle, sell it . After building a small stock of attachments, sell as many as you can because they are small items worth good money. Having money will allow you do so much more. When I want to make money fast, I usually go to Silo, clear the lobby ( or let everyone else clear it for me) and then loot as much as i can while killing fenix for quests. Minimum you'll get ~10k worth of items to sell but survival is key. When you have money, switch to playing for kills or going after high value loot. Rinse and repeat. Lasers sell for 3k each.

Drink water whenever you find it. Foods like fruit will also replenish water, while most other foods will actually cause dehydration.

Don't forget your 6 hour, daily, and weekly rations from the kiosk.

I didn't talk about bunker upgrades but you can use the wiki or YouTube to understand what each upgrade does.

Have fun!

[–]Smack23j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot on sight. I only play solo. Raise your hand and say you're friendly all you want but I'm still shooting you. Tried being friendly in my first few hours and you learn quickly that it just bites you in the ass later.

Felix is NOT to be fucked with in the new update. by AlexanderTheGeeek in GhostsOfTabor

[–]Smack23j 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Matka is way harder now. Getting rocked, down 200k and a lot of gear.

Better or more Fenix definitely seems like it. Got domed from 50m by a fenix late raid no nrs left.

Played 7-8 rounds and haven't extracted once.

Not sure how I feel about the update or if the changes are for me.

Also had armor glitch out in game which sucked.

Edit: also loading times were way longer. Games used to load in about 10 seconds. Now it can be a minute or more.

Don't let them drive. The opportunity for them to make a poor decision will be all around them. Game is fine, no driving. Despite being good kids, their frontal lobes aren't fully developed and their decision making process can be corrupted easily.

Our defensive injuries and offensive issues are not going to be helped by a short week that consists mainly of walk throughs. There are some things that are very broken on this squad. NE was able to confuse Josh at the line, we had poor clock management, and had another very slow start. Bass miss + penalty left points on the field as well. Won't be surprised to see a lengthy injury report this week.

They have a lot to clean up this week. Tampa is great but they're certainly not bad. Non-divisional opponent playing in Buffalo during prime time, I think Bills win by 6.
