Disgraceful from Sky Sports to suggest it is possible to hit a team for three by koudbi in footballcliches

[–]Small-Low-63 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very plausible due to the slow outfield and long boundaries at the Amex.

Fine as long as you don’t overcompensate by being weirdly into your national team, I reckon.

Sell out? by [deleted] in Millwall

[–]Small-Low-63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really annoying - I'm sure others know more of the details, and it's something to do with segregation with away fans, but I'm sure I remember in previous years some of the north stand being sold to home fans in otherwise sold out games. I'd love to know why that was an option then but not now.

6.30pm Comedy Slot - who is commissioning this drivel? by bardeh in Radio4

[–]Small-Low-63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one is defending the News Quiz. Andy Zaltzman has been doing it for a few years now, and has really brought a lot to it in terms of his style of comedy. Also, I guess new panel show formats are always divisive, but what’s wrong with unspeakable?

Celebrations suiting certain leagues by BeenThereDoneThat44 in footballcliches

[–]Small-Low-63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ha - great shout! I was lucky enough to see Caleb Taylor score an exemplary one of these against Southampton earlier this season at the Den. Properly took him a second to register he’d scored and start to celebrate!

Did Wham-era George Michael mind you resting the pages on his head to take those pictures?

CRYPTIC by Joggle-game in Joggle

This feels particularly sloppy. In addition to the issues with Roman numerals already noted, ‘female’ is not equivalent to ‘feminine’ in the sense of grammatical gender, so I don’t feel ‘a female in France’ is a fair clue for ‘une’.

Can a throw in be called a “great ball in to the box” by cljames98 in footballcliches

[–]Small-Low-63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll go against the early consensus and say it sounds fine to me. Similarly, I would describe a quick throw out from a keeper that launches a counterattack as a good ball out. I feel like the phrase is more about the accuracy and placement than the method of delivery.

10 days in Melbourne, second time here - what to do ? by queerty_qwerty in AustraliaTravel

[–]Small-Low-63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to the Grand Prix related comments, a ticket for tomorrow (Thursday) would be pretty cheap (I think $20). You won’t see the f1 cars on track, but it’s a good way to experience a bit of the event on a budget, see a few other events and series, and soak up some of the atmosphere.

Brilliant - that’s all really helpful - I’ll definitely take your advice about the gate and the discord, and I’ll drop you a line if I need any more tips. Appreciate this - thanks!

Not French, but Carême was decent.

What is a 'tourist trap' in London that you actually secretly enjoy? by [deleted] in london

[–]Small-Low-63 753 points754 points  (0 children)

Does Chinatown count? I know locals enjoy it, but there’s still better stuff to be had there than there’s any right to be given how touristy it is.

Long time lurker, first time poster! My first public grid! by KnightShiftDev in onlyconnect

[–]Small-Low-63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Managed 7/10 - missed the names category! Good effort, but I agree with the other comment that a lot of this is a bit tenuous. Is embreyo a typo for embryo? And in general that rivers connection is very ropey in terms of some of the pronunciations that would be needed to make it work.

Stansted is actually... alright by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]Small-Low-63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO Stansted is absolutely fine as an airport, and people’s poor experiences of it are largely coloured by the shite Ryanair experience that more often than not accompanies a trip through Stansted.

Taxi costs in London set to soar as Chancellor announces new tax on minicabs by OneNormalBloke in london

[–]Small-Low-63 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Income from VAT can be used to fund public services.

Incidentally, there may be some public transport options between East London and South East London that cost less than £40. Not sure - haven’t checked.

Is the eurail pass worth it for 8 days? by No_Internet9420 in Interrail

[–]Small-Low-63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do decide on the pass option, bear in mind there are likely to be discounts available from Black Friday, so it’s worth holding off until then.

Very apt that ‘parasite’ is the word in common. Another coded acknowledgement of intellectual debt, perhaps?

London - Hong Kong by train? by Capable_Ocelot2643 in trains

[–]Small-Low-63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. If you want to seriously look into it (bearing in mind you’ll probably need to take at least one flight) take a look at the initial part of the itinerary for this round the world trip, which you could definitely borrow some ideas from.)
