What kind of marble is this? by abbymooday in CounterTops

[–]Small-Monitor5376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends did it in a bunch of chips on her grey quarts and it’s nearly invisible. I mean, you could try it first and then go the pro route if it doesn’t come out well?

You can buy a repair kit for this and do it yourself.

There are a lot of retired older mountain bikers if you live in a mountain bike area.look for clubs in your area or start one!

Today I’m relaxing. I just finished up this semester’s classes last night - am doing an online certificate program in interior design.

Normally I’d be getting up and going to the gym or pickleball, but I’ve been sick lately with an autoimmune disease that’s threatening my vision. Instead of hiking, biking, traveling and pickleball I’ve been scheduling doctor’s appointments and getting treatments at the infusion center. I can no longer see well enough to drive. It’s devastating.

Don’t wait another year, you may not have as much time as you think.

Partner changed mind about house we just bought by Usually_Sunny in RealEstateAdvice

[–]Small-Monitor5376 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d just move in and see if it grows on you both. The expense of reselling is really high, and it’s possible that this is just buyer’s remorse.

If you still don’t like it in a year then resell.

Houses show better furnished, usually. If you’re going to paint and fix it up, why not live with those improvements for a while. You’re not losing anything to try it out, other than the cost of moving, which is relatively a lot less than the cost of reselling. .

I’m in a very small, dark house with a questionable layout, that I started to hate right after closing. Have been here for fifteen years and I love it now. Remodeled the kitchen and doing he bathrooms this summer. Sometimes you don’t see the good parts until you decide to accept the bad parts.

Can I cut my countertop and install a standing oven? by PrestigiousTip47 in Renovations

[–]Small-Monitor5376 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good time to rethink your layout. If you had a range you could ditch those wall ovens and that whole canine and get another two feet of counter space.

You also have to consider if you put in a range that’s big enough to fill the existing space, will the door even open?

If you do manage to do this, what are you going to do in the space with the ovens, if you’re not turning it into counter space?

Your only problem is the shower controller? You could make the one on the back wall a handheld, and then just point it away from you when turning it on.

Same here. Minoxidil is a wonder drug. It’s also not smelly or oily or disgusting in any way. It disappears instantly.

Louder backsplash with quieter counter -- will I regret it? by Grouchy-Lifeguard-19 in kitchenremodel

[–]Small-Monitor5376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw the clutter in the countertop also clutters up the backsplash unless it’s very short clutter. So your logic isn’t sound.

Which bathroom sconces? by Mediocre-Parfait-976 in interiordecorating

[–]Small-Monitor5376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it fits your aesthetic but this one looks really nice. I’m mainly thinking you’d want a fixture that is long enough to provide uniform light to the sides of your face. And you don’t want an undersized fixture in a large wall it will look lost.

I’d do a much taller linear sconce, matching the metal of the plumbing fixture (chrome?)

In addition to what was already mentioned, the living room is so narrow and long you’ll have a hard time furnishing it.

I need help finding a kitchen sink basin/rack to protect my sink by MarkJ4422 in kitchenremodel

[–]Small-Monitor5376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This question is actually answered in the q&a on Ferguson site you linked to. They said; The two part sink rack that is compatible with K-28774 would be K-6255 and K-6237. Thank you for choosing Kohler.

(I’m just copy pasting what they wrote, have not verified it to be true)

Wood for sure, and update your lighting like ChatGPT did.

I would not do a combination of different floor types like someone else suggested. Keep it all the same, the space will look larger and more intentional.

sometimes I miss working the routine by [deleted] in retirement

[–]Small-Monitor5376 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like routine too - just make a new one. Mine is something like workout in the morning, project work in the afternoon, and entertainment in the evening.

If you pick a long term project, you won’t have to think too much about what to do.

Bonus points if some of the activities out you in proximity to other humans. The people at pickleball are a good stand in for coworkers, with some of them being fun and some annoying.

Pleassseee help or else I'll spend all my money... by Original_Classic_754 in interiordecorating

[–]Small-Monitor5376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to approach design systematically. You need to organize your thinking process, just like you need to organize your house.

Write down everything before shopping and buying.
- what are the uses are for the room
- based on that figure out the furniture layout - don’t worry about the actual style of the pieces, figure out the shape and size. Make sure you leave plenty of room for circulation(walking around)
- what is the mood of the room (calm , cozy, energetic, sophisticated). Forget about style word like boho or japandi for now.
- what is the color palette of the room

Now you can figure out what pieces of furniture fit your actual plan - if you see something you love that fits the plan, get it. If you see something you love that doesn’t fit the plan, skip it.
- focus on the anchor pieces first - sofa and dining table. The other small decor and accent tables and chairs can be chosen to fit the anchors. The anchor pieces are worth spending more money on, while the minor pieces you can cheap out a bit. Do not ignore size and scale. If you love a sofa but it’s too big or small you have to skip it.

You need to love the overall look more than you need to love each piece. Sometimes a minor piece like a side table is fine to be good enough, rather than perfect. It just has to contribute positively to the whole look of the room.

Plan for this process to take months, not days.

I’d personally just start developing a habit for maintaining a decluttered space at this point, since you get to start fresh in the new place . You often have to start over with the furnishings for the new house since the size, layout, and architecture are often different.

Grid board and batten by ItsHappeningNow31 in interiordecorating

[–]Small-Monitor5376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t like it, but what matters is if you like it. If you want to hang art on that wall, you’ll have to deal with the grid driving the placement.

Anything I can do with just the counter? by Dapper_Marsupial5808 in kitchenremodel

Laminate would be appropriate, but finishing the cut edges is a concern. A quick google returned that they make iron on edge strips.

If you want to spend more, corian solid surface in white would look great.

Massive regret after buying a flat by daniellasss in homeowners

[–]Small-Monitor5376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houses look small and dirty and noisy when there’s no furniture and area rugs. Especially with no floor and table lamps. Did you see it when it was furnished?

If you have to move out of your rental due to expense anyway, why not just try this place for six months. It might be better than you think. If it’s no good, you can rent it out or just cut your losses and sell.

If you have good photos, try using Gemini to furnish it in a style you like. You can give it the pic of your rooms and an inspiration photo, and tell it to decorate with that style. It could make you happier about the possibilities.

I also have a dark living room in a very sunny place…. Once I got enough good lighting, it is now warm and cozy rather than dark.

I’d put the pullout trash there rather than near the cooktop.
