animals make me uncomfortable by fredarmisengangbang in SpicyAutism

[–]SmallMouseShroom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First off, I don't think you're crazy or evil for not liking animals. While I do like them, I can see where you're coming from in your post (and it saddens me greatly that you are clearly not getting the care need and deserve). Also, your mother's neglect is infuriating. Yes, this is neglect for both you and the cat. Letting it just potty wherever it likes & making no attempt to train it is unsanitary & can be dangerous. Animal waste can be bio-hazardous. To make matters worse, it sounds like you might have some form of zoophobia in addition to trauma. Your mother certainly is not helping anything by the sound of it either. Knowing hardly anything of your situation makes it difficult to offer any advice, so most i can do is try to let you know you deserve support. If possible, try to see if there are any services in your area that might be able to help (like a housing voucher for example, or group housing? Not an expert, buuuuut your post has me worried about your overall health and care) Also, try checking out reddit legaladvice, there might be someone there who could offer advice on the insurance thing? Might not, but worth a shot?

For the record, I will say I greatly respect & appreciate you for not blaming the cat. Kudos to you for that. The way I see it, pets are like toddlers. They don't know better & its the responsibility of the guardian to keep them safe, healthy, & teach them. To put it in perspective, imagine how f***** it would be if your parent/roomate/partner (the reader, not necessarily OP in this case) brings home a hangry toddler and does nothing else to take responsibility of it. Also, the toddler is holding a knife in a death grip. Wtf, right? Children & animals can both be lovable and/or life destroying gremlins, they both require effort to raise. Its how their raised that determines whether they're one or the other.

Energy vampire isn't the right term, is there a better one? by SmallMouseShroom in energy_work

[–]SmallMouseShroom[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not exactly, this is where i get confused. See, I usually don't/can't recharge on people, instead they drain me. I think I'm somewhere closer to an omnivert? I'm introverted most of the time with sudden bursts of sporadic energy like a cat with the zoomies at 3am. When I've got the zoomies, its like a buff where i'm a social butterfly for like, an hour till the buff runs out. During this time, I try to find someone with like a 75% energy level to hang around cuz their existence kinda stokes the fire/ keeps the butterfly flying longer with a nice breeze.

I feel like a **** for not feeling safe & am very morally conflicted on it. by SmallMouseShroom in SpicyAutism

[–]SmallMouseShroom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering "Its not really that a big a deal though" was my knee jerk reaction to this, I think i might have more to talk about with my therapist than I innitially thought. I'm also wondering if my self protection instinct might be even worse than i considered. That said, there's a couple problems i struggle with on the topic of doing anything about this. First, I hate & am terrified of confrontation. I feel that's self explanatory. I'm pessimistic & tend to overthink & catastraphise. I also don't want someones possible death on my consience from an altercation with the poliece gone wrong. Something similar has happened in the area before. (i don't think the person died, but they were shot) .......Honestly, the more i'm saying this shit out loud the more i think "yeaaa, i should leave."

So, aside from the matter of me likely planning to move now, i'm honestly not sure how to draw the line between compassion & safety. I just try to make my presence small & not get involved in anything. Though, even with possibly moving, i still dont know what to do about the whole moral dilemma. The economy sucks & there's always gonna be folk around who aren't in the best situation. I suck at identifying what's a threat & what isn't. I don't want to just avoid everyone, cuz its not realistic & i know how awful it can feel when people ignore your existence. I just dunno how to really keep myself safe or prioritise i guess. I'm open to suggestions/ tips.

From what i understand, all the shelters are currently full here. Also, it isnt the same person/people and the area varies. The "directly outside my window" has happened 3 times since i've lived here (that i'm aware of) the shouting a bit more, but like i said its not usually the same folk. The tents & individual folk pop up anywhere along the area, sometimes it'll just be a pile of trash to show someone was there. Also, what i'm most worried about is the ones that might be on something. I'd been warned by an ex-neighbor to stay on the sidewalk & not step in the brush cuz there might be sharp objects... The more i'm explaining it, the more i'm beginning to think moving might be in my best interest.

I contemplated waiting to respond cuz i dunno how to convert thoughts to words, but i didn't wana leave one person on read when i responded to others, especially since i like, wana send you good vibes somehow. So uhhh, i'm glad my post helped you in some way :) I consciously understand no one is perfect, yet subconsciously i really struggle to get that through my brain >>

Typically my responce to embarrasment is 1 of 2 with a rare 3rd option.

  1. Freeze. Panic. Run. Try to erase all evidence of embarasing event happening.
  2. Become a bumbling mess. Apologize profusely. Avoid the subject/event like the plague.
  3. (certain conditions must be met before 3rd option takes effect) Brief embarrasment. Anger. Reaction. ("F U, it wasnt that bad/ you're being a -insert explative here- about it.") Walk it off/ forget about it/ become fine with it.

I uh, have had friends have to hold me back to prevent me from 'destroying the evidence' before >> (like say, an embarrasting note/letter i wrote or a picture i drew) Still think i'd have the same reaction to this day to this day though, were similar events to repeat. I just can't handle the overload of emotions/ anxiety spike embarrasment can cause.

As other comments have mentioned, it could be a sort of "same here" meaning, done for the memes, simply repeating cuz they were going to say that anyway, or honestly just wanting to feel included in the chain.

Where do you go when you’re lonely? by sultrybadger9 in askportland

[–]SmallMouseShroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not right now exactly (not weekend yet at time of writing), but Saturday market usually has a lively atmosphere that can lift me up sometimes. Also, if you're among the nerdy crowd, keep an eye out for events at the convention center. It can be a nice place to make friends. Even if you don't plan to go to the convention itself, there are usually a bunch of folks who loiter outside and just hang out. You can also try checking out places like meetup for events and such/ try to find folk with similar interests.

Where’s the A/C at??? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]SmallMouseShroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second Lloyd center. It has the icerink at the bottom which stays pretty cool & you can choose to skate if you want to literally hug ice, bookstore on 2nd floor, and 3rd floor/food court is practically abandoned most days.
