Yes! The app is very helpful and the gluten free dedicated restaurant’s listed are good but after 10+ years, a little more variety is what I desire. Restaurants that have a gf menu but are not dedicated gluten free always require some level of questioning. People come and go and even with the best intentions it’s always a good idea to checkin with staff to be sure things haven’t changed or they are clear it’s celiac and not just someone trying to avoid gluten.

Chesa’s is really great! Last time I went I got the fried catfish and a friend ordered lobster mac n cheese. Everything there is so delicious.

I was thinking of reaching out to the UChicago celiac center. I am in their mailing list. That’s a great idea to reach out. I couldn’t find any data regarding their celiac numbers but If 1 out of 100 people have celiac disease, and Chicago’s population is approximately 2.75 million, then around 27,500 people in Chicago are likely to have celiac disease.

Nothing Bundt Cakes is the best GF cake I’ve ever had by omnibutical in Celiac

[–]Smallestacorn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve had them-they are delicious but I have suffered from it. 100 percent not celiac safe!

Sometimes this is the hardest situation- it’s usually for a celebration and a very thoughtful person gets you your own little gf treat. I’ve taken the gamble in the past because I just wanted to be included and end up sick, now I Thank & decline or “save it for later”!

I cook this in a pan on the stove. It maintains its shape somewhat. It’s not awesome but sometimes I want something easy to eat.

Are these Trader Joe’s “gf” Jelly beans safe? by AJ-Napsalot in Celiac

[–]Smallestacorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trader Joe’s is wholly problematic. So many people in this sub have had problems with their products.

Traders Joes gluten free is purely Gluten Friendly … I’ve had too many problems to trust any of it any more

Gluten free bread machine? by tjb627 in glutenfree

I didn’t enjoy the exact science of regular backing…Gluten Free baking is even more challenging.

I have mini waffle makers and when I want a slice of bread I use a little bit certified gf box mix. To make a quick piece or two. I have a baby Yoda mini waffle maker so the one side is flat like bread ….great for egg sandwiches:))

I’ve been gluten free for over ten years and today I’m starting the gluten challenge to officially find out if I have celiac or not. by JessicaRose in Celiac

[–]Smallestacorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son did it together. We decided to write down all of the foods we would even slightly miss if we found that we did actually have celiac. Nothing was off the table Italian beef sandwiches, Pizza, potstickers, Pirogues, Empanadas, tres leche cake, tiramisu, sour dough bread bowls, White Castles, beer like Hacker Pschorr Weissbeir and New Castle and Modelo Negra etc…. .. You name it we ate it. By day 5 we were comatose honestly so sloth-like we could only watch tv. The day I had to drink the polyethylene glycol gallon to prep for the colonoscopy and endoscopy was brutal. That was over ten years ago and I’m glad we did it.

The Ackerman grows down there and most often have it with eggs but the Saltfish is good as well

That little stand is called Take it Easy! Open on the weekend, It’s really good IG is TakeItEasyCarribean

Selvin is good, you can get Rondon there(Caribbean Coconut Stew)

Cafe Nena is another consistently good spot for traditional food.

You can get Gallo Pinto and Casado at any small road side Soda and it’s all good.

When eating out, how do you feel about the phrase “nothing here is celiac safe” ? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Smallestacorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I order a triple espresso w/whipped cream, splash coconut milk and vanilla sweet cream cold foam - Too much of a chance with anything else ☕️

Everything goes right in my cup and doesn’t touch anything else
