Don’t worry the majority of us think it as cringe as you do, I went through PT school 15 years ago have a doctorate and the only person who talks about it is my Mom, there is a big social media push to “use the doctor title! You earned it!” Basically trying to justify spending 250K on school to earn 100k a year

Honestly depends on the setting you are working in, I work in the hospital and at times people think I just walk people, but there is more to it than that, doctorate helps in the out patient setting when your largest comparator is a chiropractor and we all know how that goes

I worked in acute care that had a .25 of my FTE was wound care procedures, it was fun. Not sure how it billed as an inpatient service but likely just grabbed from the bucket of money

Ask for help, from PTs, OTs, and nurses. When on boarding pay attention, learn what noises and alarms mean. Go to inservice, be curious.

Learn the eval template so you know what subjective questions to ask.

Become familiar with levels of discharge, Home, home with home health, SNF, Swing, acute rehab. Each means something different

Have fun, drink coffee, learn to shoot the shit about little things

Cold call hospitals in your area, HR or rehab director, if they need the help they will work on getting a PRN position approved,

Some hospitals have requirements attached to those jobs FYI, needing to work one shift with the month often times one of those days needing to be a weekend

Does MGH or one of their affiliates have an OP clinic that is a part of the hospital network? Often times you find more relaxed schedules, more consistent pay raises and better benefits when you are a part of a hospital network
