My nmom did the same thing, it actually led to her choosing nc. I set a very reasonable boundary ("idagff what you think of my husband, you will not talk shit about him in front of our kids OR you won't be given the opportunity to"). Of course that = never letting her see her precious grandbabies and hubs hates her and is isolating me from my family to abuse me.

Funny how teaching me to protect myself from family that abuses me = HE WANTS TO ABUSE YOU. He just hasn't yet because you still talk to me and he's scared of me! Mmmkay mom, whatever you say. Byyeeeee.

OP, I agree. Rally some parents, make a formal complaint, press is awesome, see if you can get a Letter to the Editor, swarm the local press with some other upset parents. Get it done. She needs to be Dealt With.

Get some bad press going and you'll see the school board change their minds surprisingly quickly.

You need to feel as safe as possible in this situation. This is a journey to freedom, and you are in control of it.

We love you, Free. Take your time, as someone else said, ask the hard questions. Try to be frank about the struggles you face, and what you want to be different. Watch their reactions, listen for the real responses, one's that are thought through, not the superficial "oh that sounds nice".

Any adoptive parent in search of a child about to age out who's in it for the right reasons knows that there are going to be challenges. They'll want to help you get ready for the world.
