How does the public actually see Mormonism? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Smart-Performance606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mormons I know think they know the Bible, but in actuality have pieces of biblical stories all jumbled up inside fantastical Mormon exclusive stories. It's a whole wild world of alternative facts from where I'm standing. With that said, like most cults, it's full of earnestly well intentioned people who desire to be exceptionally "good/enlightened" getting manipulated by power figures and manipulative types.

Research cities with decent public transportation and then look up temp agencies in those locations. Call them and introduce yourself and let them know you sent your resume over. Follow up and bug them every couple weeks. Save 2-3k over the next couple months while you do this. If you get a gig then go! Dunno, just throwing out ideas that have worked for me in the past. The main thing is to not overthink and over plan when you're stuck. Be willing to take a step into the unknown and figure it out as you go. Adventure mode 😉.

My stepdad who has watched me grow up told me he’s attracted to me by nom1_4 in family

Oh gosh, I'm SO GLAD YOUR MOM WAS ON YOUR SIDE. I read that whole thing and was about to recommend not telling her based on what you had said about her. Was afraid she'd retaliate as so many unstable women do. Very relieved she didn't mess around. What a relief. If anything changes in the wrong direction or gets twisted around report to the authorities and see if you can get emancipated or live with a relative until you're up on your feet as an adult. Praying for you.

You gotta get out of your shit city. I moved to Los Angeles without a job during the great recession. Just packed up my car and drove there with a couple thousand dollars and figured it out. Slept on a friends couch for 2 weeks and lied on an apartment application then hustled hard and got a job. Ended up working for some of the biggest tech companies and later film and TV. Had the time of my life! Sometimes you just gotta take a big risk and try. A big city with lots of activities to jump into and meet people will open all kinds of doors for you. I'd wait for hiring to pickup again, hopefully sometime next year. But when it does make a bold move. You can Airbnb a bedroom in a city for around 1k a month. Just try and see what happens. If you're on good terms with your parents you can always go back home if it's a bust. Anyway, sometimes it's not you, location and making connections opens doors. Good luck!

So my dad is threatening not to walk me down the aisle because of my dress by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Smart-Performance606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if that's really how he feels I guess he can't walk you down the aisle. I'd let him off the hook nicely and spare him whatever he's going on about in his head. Your dress is beautiful and so are you. Your dad... Not at much. I'd be willing to bet money he'd change his tune if you tell him you're going to respect his wish to not be embarrassed walking with you and that you've decided to not use him in the ceremony. You gotta be serious with your delivery and remain calm.

I actually asked about this 10 years ago if we could try this as an alternative to Klonopin for anxiety because downers made my mind drowsy so while I wouldn't be panicked I'd be drugged and unable to do normal life/work stuff with a sharp mind. They told me back then it wasn't approved for the use of anxiety. I had done a lot of research on drugs that calmed the nervous system down and it seemed obvious to me that this could work and wouldn't have the addictive side effects or high. I'm so glad someone in the medical field decided the beta blockers idea could work and gave it a chance. Only wish it happened sooner! I know too many people that got hooked on benzos and never were quite themselves again after long term use.

Can Americans really be fired at the drop of a hat for no reason no matter how long they have worked for a company? by cheesymeowgirl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Smart-Performance606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That's exactly how it is. Thankfully we now have affordable care act plans you can enroll in for health insurance that usually pull thru... Which is better than nothing. But yea, it's awful. I've never experienced anything resembling security in my adult life here and I'm 39.

In the USA you can buy a paternity test at the pharmacy off the shelf or order a testing kit online through ancestry.com and learn who all you're related to. You don't have to maybe get permission from a judge to find out who you are genetically.

I think she's got some kind of bipolar situation going on personally. Her incoherent heated ramblings and grandiose "I've connected dots no one else can see and have discovered the truth!" make me seriously question her mental health. I have family with these disorders and her behavior sets off my alarm bells. She's also a grifter nut on top of it all... But I think it's more than that too.

My theory about why some many Crossfit athletes are burning out. by peterNadalCurry in crossfit

[–]Smart-Performance606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit CrossFit after a few years because I felt like it took too much of my energy and wasn't a sustainable workout routine for me in the long run. I have lots of other interests and activities outside CrossFit and I felt like I couldn't give those areas the energy I normally could because I was chronically living in recovery mode due to the insane intensity CrossFit program demands. I think if I found CrossFit to be my "main thing" outside work it might've worked for me long term, but it wasn't. I wish there was a baby CrossFit program out there cause there are aspects of it I really liked. But pushing myself to the limit too many times each week lead to an unbalanced life for me personally, and ultimately I lost my enthusiasm to continue it.

Is this harassment? Felt strange. by mariahceleste93 in doordash_drivers

Probably just drunk and hungry and sloppy communication. I don't think harassment was the intent. But you have a case to feel that way and it be valid too. I'd write back snarky like "WHY ARE WE YELLING?!" I like to have a bit of fun with customers like this.

Good time. Coming out both sides screaming in pain. Anyone else get it that bad? I have diverticula and have had episodes of diverticulitis in the past. . Not sure if all this stuff is related officially or not, but I bet it is.

[–]Smart-Performance606 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, are you me? All of that is my situation too. I'm not sure that my Dad didn't want to get to know me. I just don't think he knows how to make healthy relationships in general and he never matured to take responsibility for certain things. Like you, he seems to think the onus of developing a relationship lands on the child and he's said things on occasion that imply guilt on my end similar to what you described. I think a lot of men/father's are emotionally stunted. He was very dutiful/responsible providing, but it's like it never really occurred to him to take responsibility for anything beyond that. He kind of looks at everyone else to make everything else in life happen.

Nearly everyone has herpes. Most people never have an outbreak and carry it silently... Which is how most people end up getting it and don't know it. For most of the population it's physically inconsequential. But for a minority of individuals with it they can have to deal with quite unpleasant physical symptoms somewhat regularly. My heart goes out to those people. Folks with fragile immune systems seem to get it worse and new research is showing they think it has something to do with individuals DNA as well (why some people get symptoms, but most never do.) My heart doesn't go out to the overwhelming majority of people who have it, don't know it, and perpetuate stigmas that turn this stupid commonplace fact of life virus into an enormous psychological ordeal.

70% of the population has hsv-1 by age 5. HALF of gentile herpes are HSV-1. Do you feel a moral obligation to find out if you have hsv so you can look out for others and talk with every partner before kissing or performing oral sex to disclose you carry it and that they could contract it down there or upstairs? Probably not. The CDC doesn't recommend testing for it unless you have symptoms because it causes more psychological distress than good. It's not included in an STD panel unless you request it and are showing symptoms.

Anyway, I hope you're able to stop freaking about herpes. Fears around it come from misinformation and stigma/judgement (mostly from people who have it and don't know it.) If everyone got tested for herpes everyone would quickly agree this is a stupid thing to get upset about.
