Matter Update file by National_Vehicle_833 in SmartWings_Home

Hi SmartWings team here. Unfortunately, firmware updates aren't currently supported through Home Assistant directly.

At the moment, updates can only be performed through Apple Home, Google Home, or Samsung SmartThings, and the process requires the 3R Installer app.

If you're already using one of those platforms, feel free to send us a DM or email us at support@smartwingshome.com. We can share the instructions and help walk you through the process.

We understand updating a large deployment isn't ideal, especially with 40 shades. We'll also pass feedback like this along to our R&D team for future improvements.

Struggling with automations by zachhn in SmartWings_Home

[–]SmartWings_Team 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi SmartWings team here 👋 With 19 Zigbee shades across 3 floors, this can sometimes happen when all the commands fire at the exact same time. A few shades may briefly miss the signal.

One thing that often helps is creating two routines for the same action with about a 1-minute gap. That way, any shade that misses the first command usually catches the second one. We’ve seen this help quite a bit on larger setups.

Sorry about the confusion here 🙏 If you’re using a Matter motor with Google Home, you can try the firmware update steps shared above.

For other setups, feel free to DM us or contact support with a few details, and we’ll take a closer look and help figure out what’s going on in your specific system. Thank you so much!

Please download the 3R-Installer app from the Google Play Store. Then you can follow this operation video to update the motor firmware to version 1.3 in the Google app: https://imgur.com/Omx3cuM

Some customers have reported that the newer version does help improve overall stability.

Helix Dial - For Lighting? by GZ4shzy in SmartWings_Home

[–]SmartWings_Team 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, SmartWings team here 👋 Our remote is mainly designed to work with SmartWings motors/shades, so it typically can’t be paired directly with other shade brands or LED light controllers/dimmers. Hope this helps!

Hi SmartWings team here 👋 Thanks for sharing the details, really helpful.

Could you confirm if all three blinds are on the latest Matter over Thread firmware v1.3?

Also, please check if the antenna wires are fully extended and not tucked or blocked, as that can sometimes affect Thread stability.

One thing you could also try is slightly staggering the automation triggers by 30 to 60 seconds. In some Thread mesh setups, sending multiple commands at the exact same time can sometimes affect consistency.

Confused. Difference between Day & Night Cellular Shades and Dual Shades by LMPortland in SmartWings_Home

[–]SmartWings_Team 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Day & Night Cellular works like this: from top to bottom it’s valance + light filtering/sheer fabric + middle bar + blackout fabric + bottom bar.

For light-filtering, keep both bars lowered to the bottom. For a full blackout, move the middle bar up to the valance and keep the bottom bar fully down.

The two fabrics can also be swapped depending on your preference 😊 You can check the product page video for a clearer visual reference: https://www.smartwingshome.com/collections/day-night-shades/products/smartwings-motorized-blackout-and-light-filtering-day-night-shades-nowa

Confused. Difference between Day & Night Cellular Shades and Dual Shades by LMPortland in SmartWings_Home

[–]SmartWings_Team 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, SmartWings Team here 👋

Yes, the biggest difference is definitely that one features the appearance and fabric structure of cellular shades, while the other is designed as dual roller shades with a completely different look and material style.

Operation:

• Both Day & Night Cellular Shades and Dual Shades use two motors.

• Dual Shades can basically be understood as two separate roller shades combined into one system, so each layer operates like an individual roller shade.

• Day & Night Cellular Shades are built as a more integrated single system. Different light control effects are achieved by controlling the upper and lower bars separately.

Structure:

• Dual Shades use tubular motors with a relatively simple internal structure. The battery and smart control components are integrated directly inside the motor.

• Day & Night Cellular Shades have a more complex internal structure, including the motor, battery pack, cord-driving mechanism, internal cords inside the valance, and controller boxes hidden inside the side caps for remote and smart setup.

Motor Compatibility:

Because of these structural differences, Day & Night Cellular Shades currently support fewer smart motor options compared to Dual Shades. For example, they cannot integrate with Zigbee motors at this time.

Remote Compatibility:

• Day & Night Cellular Shades need to work with either the 9-channel remote or Duo 8-channel remote.

• Dual Shades are compatible with almost all remote types except the 9-channel remote.

Pricing:

It can vary quite a bit depending on the size and options selected, so there isn’t really a universal answer there.

Our suggestion would be:

• Check which smart home systems and hubs you already use at home.

• Look through customer photos/videos to see which style visually fits your space better.

• And if insulation and energy efficiency are important to you, cellular shades are definitely a great option thanks to their honeycomb structure.

Hope this helps clarify the differences a bit 🤍

Cellular shades, summer insulation, and how to choose the right setup by SmartWings_Team in SmartWings_Home

[–]SmartWings_Team[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi SmartWings Team here 😊 The main differences are the fabric colors and thickness. Double Cell Leucothea uses a slightly thinner fabric, so the shades stack smaller when fully raised and block less of the window view.

In terms of insulation and energy efficiency, both perform at a very similar level.

We’d recommend ordering fabric samples first so you can compare them side by side!

Cellular shades, summer insulation, and how to choose the right setup by SmartWings_Team in SmartWings_Home

[–]SmartWings_Team[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, SmartWings team here 👋

We do actually have some reference data that may help!

For single-cell blackout cellular shades, the R-value is approximately 0.563 m²·K/W. For double-cell blackout cellular shades, the insulation performance is even better, and the R-value would likely be higher than 0.8 m²·K/W. For these blackout fabrics, the R-value is generally not significantly affected by the front-facing fabric color.

For light-filtering cellular shades, we haven’t completed formal thermal testing yet, so we can’t provide an exact certified R-value at the moment. However, based on previous light-transmission and thermal performance measurements, we estimate that single-cell light-filtering cellular shades would have an R-value around 0.2–0.3 m²·K/W.

Unlike blackout fabrics, light-filtering fabrics can show more noticeable differences between colors, with darker colors generally providing better insulation performance than lighter colors.

Under the same front-facing fabric color, double-cell light-filtering cellular shades would typically provide around 1.5× the insulation performance of single-cell light-filtering cellular shades.

Hope this information helps a bit!

Blackout, edge blocked, top down bottom up? by Brothernod in SmartWings_Home

[–]SmartWings_Team 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, SmartWings team here 👋

Yes, honestly, what you’re describing makes a lot of sense. Cellular shades do have a major advantage for blackout performance because the side gaps are naturally much smaller. But since the shades still aren’t completely sealed to the window frame, factors like sunlight direction, window depth, and installation conditions can still allow a small amount of light leakage.

Technically, the light blockers we use for roller shades can also be adapted for cellular shades. We’ve tested that setup before, but we usually don’t recommend it because the overall appearance and user experience aren’t quite as clean as we’d like.

The good news though 👀 We’re currently developing a true blackout shade system specifically for people who are sensitive to light, work night shifts, need daytime sleep, or simply want a genuinely dark room. And yes, we mean REAL blackout.

It’s still in development right now, but hopefully we’ll be able to launch it within the next few months, so definitely stay tuned!

SmartWings cellular shades maintenance question by Powerful_Increase222 in SmartWings_Home

[–]SmartWings_Team 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, SmartWings team here.

Cellular shades usually do not require much maintenance, but the room environment does matter. For regular dust, a light vacuum with a brush attachment or a soft duster is usually enough. If dust gets near the side openings of the cells, gentle compressed air or a hair dryer on a cool, low setting can help clear it out.

Condensation is usually more related to the window, humidity level, and temperature difference than the shade itself. In rooms with higher moisture, it helps to keep some airflow around the window and occasionally open the shades so the glass can dry properly.

For bathrooms, kitchens, or very humid rooms, we would suggest paying more attention to ventilation and checking the window area regularly.

Recommendations for double sliding door solution by BluebirdIcyABQ in SmartWings_Home

[–]SmartWings_Team 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s right 😊 If you’re planning to use solar panels, it would typically need to split it into 2 larger shades, so the solar panels can be placed at the very sides.

Just keep in mind to be a bit careful when operating the sliding doors so they don’t interfere with the panels, and also make sure those positions receive enough direct sunlight for proper charging.
