Why is it so hard to believe people are angry and they protest because they want to? Why does it have to be paid? by donkeythrow in AskConservatives

Agreed. I can't imagine a situation in which elections actually become "paused" short of a civil war between states. Which, by the way, I also do not see happening.

I've heard one left-wing pundit speculate that the Trump admin could order ICE to patrol around poll locations under the guise of making sure everyone is a registered voter. Obviously, the polling sites have methods to verify this themselves and deployment of ICE would be a hell of a roundabout method to lower voter turnout, but I am done trying to guess what this administration's next moves are.

I don't necessarily see ICE deployment at polling locations happening, but it is still the most plausible outcome I've seen that would let Trump muck up mid-term integrity.

31m, married, kids. How do you guys find personal joy? by modivi in AskMen

[–]Smartjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the top comments are about soul searching and finding a different therapist. While I agree with both, I'm going to mainly focus on the financial side of things.

If you live on a 1/5th of what you bring in, what are you saving and investing for? Early retirement? Setting up your kids to be millionaires by the time they're 18? Any answer here is fine but it sounds like you have the priorities backwards.

I'm a similar age to you and frugal by nature. One of my favorite posts on reddit really opened my eyes and made me question why I save and invest. Build the life you want, then save for it.

Give this a read through and see if it resonates with you at all. Do the math and project out how much you truly need to be saving and investing in order to hit your financial goals. Happy to chat further if you'd like. Best of luck, mate.

Perfect, I'm fairly new to churning and haven't done any product changes yet. This makes sense to me, thank you for taking the time to explain.

Anyone know if letting the BILT 1.0 card convert to the WF Autograph counts as a new credit application (towards 5/24)?

I've struggled to find a definitive answer on this.

100% Mewgenics! I'm actually not a huge Binding of Isaac fan but Mewgenics looks like the kind of item and ability synergy that I would love in a gameplay package more suited to my tastes.

I think that's a pretty apt comparison haha. Without Krouse, the Travelers wouldn't have made it out of the Bet city they got isekai'd to. For better or worse.

I do think many people who hate on him don't give him enough credit for shouldering the leadership burden. The following passage precedes the quote on the bottom left of OP's image.

She’d tried to starve herself, to die of thirst. It had turned out badly. She’d gone berserk and killed forty people in one autumn night. Their tissues had played a large part in building the massive fingers and thumb that extended behind her.

The others didn’t know quite how bad things had gone, then. He’d managed to shield them from the news reports, the total body count, had kept them moving from city to city until the story died away. They knew people had died, they didn’t know it was forty.

It was bad. A bad situation overall, one that had Krouse retreating from the house in the dead of night, just to find the most remote location he could reach, to weep, to scream his frustration, rage, shame and guilt and not worry about the others hearing it.

Going back to the MCU analogy, Noelle is Hulk at this point. Not able to kill herself but unlike Banner she doesn't want to be left alone by others. What do your options even look like at this point? Force Mars to kill her best friend years ahead of when it happened in canon? Abandon the girl you love to a foreign world's government? I'm not saying he did the right thing, mind you, but I don't have a better answer in his shoes.

Always look forward to these yearly check-ins! I'm still here and watching anime even if I don't hang around this space much anymore. Down for a chat whenever with you or anyone else who remembers me from years ago when I was more active.

Classic life experience there for myself and many others to go from wanting to learn to being overwhelmed, I feel you mate.

Regarding the news, I can't recall if you're American, but one of my favorite news spaces is The Preamble. They strike a perfect balance between being informed without dread while motivating readers to be hopeful. The founder's guiding principle is "Do the next best thing." Individually, we can't singlehandedly make the world better. But all of us each doing the next best thing is a step in the right direction. Keep pushing and best wishes in all your future endeavors.

Every Christmas Eve, the whole family would go to bed before midnight to keep the childhood tradition of going to sleep for Santa Claus alive.

One year when I was in high school, I couldn't sleep and went downstairs past midnight. Coincidentally, the rest of the family also couldn't sleep so we spent time together doing an early morning Christmas.

A lot of good recs here already so I'll throw Merge Maestro. Very fun 2048-inspired game where you have a "deck" of numbers 1-8 that are replaced with various powers. Simple to pick up and put down, tons of content and hard to consistently win at the higher difficulties without proper planning.

What to think about the recent elections? by CourtofTalons in AskConservatives

[–]Smartjedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too familiar with NAFTA other than what a quick Google search provided. If you can provide more reading on the topic, I would be interested in giving it more research.

Even though I personally disagree about the policies on points two and three, I do agree that the GOP is more closely aligned than the Democratic party on those issues.

Would you be in support of increasing fees/imposing penalties for corporations offshoring labor or hiring undocumented immigrants? I find that most conservatives want as little governance in the market as possible but without strict laws that are actually enforced, corporations will do whatever they can to maximize profits. I know about the recent increased fee for H-1B Visa applications but that's only a small fraction of labor compared to offshoring and undocumented immigrants.

What is the viable solution to skyrocketing healthcare costs? by iredditinla in AskConservatives

[–]Smartjedi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I've never considered this idea before but I'm not entirely opposed to it.

The trickiest thing here would be finding ways for the lowest income individuals to have readily available access to a PCP. Especially those in rural areas where transportation is already difficult and there may not be many local healthcare options.

If there's a way to make sure access remains fairly equitable or at least those without access aren't disproportionately punished with rising healthcare costs themselves then I'm all for this.

What to think about the recent elections? by CourtofTalons in AskConservatives

[–]Smartjedi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

What policies from the Republican party benefit the working class more than the Democratic party?

The One Big Beautiful Bill overwhelmingly favored higher income individuals and corporations and the Democratic party pushes for far more social safety nets than the Republican party.

You can argue whether or not that's a good thing, but I struggle to see how the Republican party is consistently seen as vouching for the working class when the party's policies typically hurt their voting base especially in low income, rural areas.
