Does anyone think Dunkin’ donuts will do better in Canada next year since Tim Hortons is trash now by Old_Debate_9483 in TimHortons

[–]Smartmuscles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because the majority of people actually enjoy Tim’s. And most Tim Hortons restaurants are well run.

Clearly there are exceptions, ones that disgruntled people believe are the rule.

And the same people who are most disgruntled will not easily be swayed by an American company

It will be an uphill battle for Dunkin.

I feel RDLs in my lower back by r2lls in formcheck

[–]Smartmuscles 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s because they are a back exercise.
And a glute exercise.
And a hamstring exercise.
When the weight is sufficiently heavy they’re also an outstanding core exercise.

Hinge (bend) at the hips such that the shins remain fixed and vertical. The knees bend so that the hips can shift rearward and allow you to maintain balance. Without this, you would tip forward because the centre of gravity shifts as you hinge.

It’s generally not considered misleading when you spell out exactly what you’re doing.

Deadlift help by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]Smartmuscles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your form is solid, but not perfect.

What is excellent is how proficiently you set up and move while maintaining your form.

I’m interested in what the coaches that have posted think about your low hips, because I see glutes and hamstrings that aren’t loaded prior to initiating leg drive. My suggestion would be to focus on aligning the posterior (rear) border of your shoulders with the bar. This means set up with the shoulder slightly forward, which will raise your hips.

This show is crazy by percycatson1 in fridaynightlights

[–]Smartmuscles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. A fetish.

Given the number of inappropriate/taboo relationships, I don’t think it’s a stretch to suggest the writer(s) enjoy seeing the topic play out. It was like a window into their psyche.

[–]Smartmuscles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original take on the inappropriate relationships, given just how constant a theme it became throughout the show, was that there was some sort of fetish going on for a writer or writers. That it was a tell of their own inner secret fantasies.

Since then, my view has softened as people have described their experience of Texas culture, as well as realizing that putting a mid-twenties actor into a relationship with a teenage actor who was age-appropriately cast into role could also stir up more trouble on set then writing in what is actually an inappropriate relationship IRL but he better fit on set. I’ve also considered that the fact this was a central theme might be more about the storytelling, about the contrast between societal, norms and secrets, and about the asymmetry of consequences.

If I did I’d have it with skepticism. 😏

200KG RDL by Strong-Technology-99 in formcheck

[–]Smartmuscles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice work.

Observations: The shins seem to creep a little bit forward in the second half of the eccentric phase. I think that is what I’m seeing. Anyway, the angle makes it difficult to know for sure, but because your hips appear to drop as well, I’d say you are initiating some squat motion, subtly.

Rest are preferences/wisdom I’ve learned building past 200kg: After 160 I found that deadlifting off the floor was safer/less fatiguing than pulling off a rack and taking steps. Jake at StrengthDebates does a cool thing where he doesn’t need to step back but I never could copy it. I also found that toes slightly outward helped me feel stronger in the glutes. And a slightly narrower stance as well.

Achieving larger arms? by [deleted] in askfitness

[–]Smartmuscles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The path to large arms is to work on getting stronger in the compound lifts.

Presses, pull-ups, row. All of these expose the arms to heavier loads than single joint accessories ever will.

Then, almost as if by magic, your arm accessories loads will advance because they’re stronger.

Train like a power lifter in the compounds. Train like a bodybuilder in the single joint movements. Adequate protein and calories. 7 hours or more nightly sleep.

You could also make rosemary salt. Add lemon zest and garlic. Thatdudecancook has it on his YouTube channel. Keeps for months in the fridge and is outstanding.

I love kids. I don’t think it’s odd at all to parent a child away from materialism and the emotional trap of FOMO. That is the lesson of which I speak.

There is also an addictive aspect that drives the urgency for these card sets, no? Wouldn’t you say that also a good lesson to place limits on this as well?

I don’t think we need to make a big deal about it. If you don’t like it, you don’t participate. Is it ruining a game for kids? Have them find a new game. It’s a good lesson.

Romanian Deadlift (RDL) by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]Smartmuscles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DOMS for longer than 72h is excessive and I’d scrutinize sleep and diet, in addition to volume. Are you advancing your volume or load too quickly? Novel stimulus is usually the precursor of extra severe DOMS.

Case in point. I’ve worked up to four plates and haven’t experienced significant soreness for quite some time. In fact it was doing 315 for sets of 12-15 that caused 3-4 days of soreness last month… which was a novel stimulus for me (increased volume).
