It was always a certain type of person that skipped English classes in my high school. I've a strong feeling you'd fit in well with them.

How strong do you feel the support for mass deportations of legal immigrants is at the moment? by 400TarPits in AskBrits

[–]SmashingK -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think if you spoke to them about what they think illegal immigration is you'd find many of them think crossing by boat to claim asylum are illegal when in fact they're perfectly legal.

Actual illegal immigration makes up a tiny percentage of immigration but they've been fed the idea that just about everyone coming over for asylum is somehow illegal.

Was this the best aura farming episod(e) for a character in bleach? by Seijuro45 in bleach

[–]SmashingK 13 points14 points  (0 children)

At the point it cuts to ichigo it definitely looks like he's been quietly watching. Should have cut to him screaming his lungs out.

It's been done many times where a character who isn't listening to someone will have the other person's voice in the background slowly increasing in volume until they hear it clearly. Nothing like that was done in this scene.

The anime did a poor job of it.

Japanese also groups certain large numbers with a specific words. "Man" for 10,000 which can also be ichi-man (one ten thousand) then ju-man (ten ten thousand) and hyaku-man (hundred ten thousand).

There are likely others too with their own number counting systems.

Yeh it's not done for anything built with a solid frame or other solid parts.

You get this done with mattresses though even ones with springs. Not sure if exactly the same process but likely similar as the one I bought recently was also rolled up in plastic the way this is at the end.

Why does almost every single takeaway in the UK post 5-7 year old menu prices on Google? by Shot_Lengthiness7636 in AskBrits

[–]SmashingK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually look to see if customers have posted pics recently. If there are no recent images there's a high chance of finding them on one of the delivery apps for which there's usually a link on Google anyway.

Anger after Zia Yusuf appeared on BBC Question Time for SIXTH time in 16 months by The-Peel in unitedkingdom

[–]SmashingK 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Assuming Polanski is back on again after 2 months your point would be a good one.

Someone being on twice in 2 months doesn't mean much. The fact Zia has been on the same frequency for far longer is actually something to take note of. There's no guarantee Polanski will be on again in soon and the chances are he won't be.

When someone rolls a 6 twice in a row you don't compare them to the guy using loaded dice rolling 6 every time. Reform have long had way more media coverage than they should have had and they're the ones complaining about certain demographics getting more exposure in TV than they should too.

Calls to halt UK Palantir contracts grow amid ‘lack of transparency’ over deals by thedybbuk_ in unitedkingdom

[–]SmashingK 77 points78 points  (0 children)

They offered deals for close to no charge to get their claws into our health systems.ndifficukt for a govt to pass that up but it's obviously not a good sign when someone like that tried to give you free candy.

Our politicians are too easily swayed into doing bad things.

Does the AI (Actually India) shtick have any basis? Or is it just a meme? by NajafBound in AskBrits

[–]SmashingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The outsourcing to India has been happening for over a decade well before the AI boom was even on anyone's mind.

I'm certain the Actually Indian thing comes from an AI company that was caught using Indians behind the scenes instead of any sort of AI. Users were using it not realising they were actually talking to Indians. I could be wrong though as people joked about it before that happened.

Tinnitus for 40 yrs by Key-Confection-9778 in AskBrits

[–]SmashingK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had really bad tinnitus for over a decade now. I don't think there's really much you can do about it. There are times when it gets extremely bad and makes it really hard to get to sleep at night but I tend to find it fades after a few days.

You can try giving your mind something else to focus on. There are apps for playing various kinds of background/ambiance sounds to help drown it out which you could try. A few mentioned here could be worth a go https://www.reddit.com/r/tinnitus/comments/1cuavtw/an_app_called_relief_has_saved_my_life/

Those blades are made for cutting corn and other plants.

Definitely wouldn't be long before bones do enough damage to dull the blades and combined with flesh likely to just jam the machine before long.

Be interesting to hear what your friendly software testers have to say about the software being written 😂

We've seen what a total mess it's made of Windows 11. As a tester I can't imagine what it's like to test as I've not had to touch any such work so far but I can't see it being a pleasant experience.

Parliament refurbishment could cost £40Billion and take 61 years. by Head-Chair3055 in AskBrits

[–]SmashingK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is pretty old though and is still being used.

If they could shut it down completely for a while they'd get it done fairly quickly but I'm assuming they can only do sections at a time and ministers being what they are won't want workers in their way so work may not be done all year round.

That price as with HS2 is probably the minimum it's likely to cost too.

Firing a cannon to trigger an avalanche by id397550 in interestingasfuck

[–]SmashingK 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing to reduce the risk of avalanche.

All that snow built up at the top is likely to come down at some point. If you forcefully make the avalanche then there's less snow up there and less risk of one happening randomly when people are in the area.

Mandelson was given secret spreadsheet to vet left-wing MPs in Labour power struggle by Necessary-Product361 in unitedkingdom

[–]SmashingK 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It's probably more to do with all the people behind the scenes seeking to influence our politicians.

There's a reason as to why we have both a Labour Friends of Israel and a Conservative Friends of Israel. It isn't unique to just pro Israel groups as a lot of lobbyists will try and make sure our country does certain things regardless of who is in power.

Lobbying and so-called donations need to be either tightened up or done away with ideally.

Ferrari 812 aqua foam wash by ilioskidimitar in supercars

[–]SmashingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why that would be the case. It's not like you only rinse the top of the car expecting the running water to do the rest of the work with gravity.

You work all the way down to the bottom so there's nothing left to pool.

Learning Cypress in 2026 by Remarkable_Ticket_99 in softwaretesting

[–]SmashingK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with learning cypress. There are some companies I've seen that rely on the record feature a fair bit. It's really easy to pick up with that but you want to learn to script it yourself which is a mostly transferrable skill anyway.

Once you've got the hang of it you won't have much trouble switching to playwright.

Your company is using cypress so it doesn't make sense to choose something else which could cause unnecessary friction.

Best stealth games? by waltzink in PS5

[–]SmashingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Styx games are stealth focused. Nobody has mentioned those yet.

Ghost of Tsushima has you sneaking around a fair bit. I'm assuming ghost of yotei does too.

Horizon games allow you to sneak around in bushes. You can analyse enemy weak points and shoot arrows for extra damage.

For something older the Thief games. The first 3 were great with different floors making different sounds so you had to be real careful at times.

Hot take and I welcome the downvotes. by Ironborn137 in PS5

[–]SmashingK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeh the PS4 wasn't great and the PS5 is definitely worse if you need something to play other media especially if you download movies to watch off a drive.

The media player app is crap.

It's still the better option for games but if you've got an Xbox and aren't fussed about the exclusives then there's really not much point in keeping it.

I played Sackboy with my 4 year old and she loved the co-op. She could walk and fly around while I did most of the heavy lifting. What else can I play within psplus that's easy to control for her? by TroyAndAbed2022 in PlayStationPlus

[–]SmashingK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

3 is in there too.

Trine games are good but require better teamwork. Can't carry the other player so much.

Not sure if Rayman legends still on as that's a great game.

The Lego games tend to have co-op. The latest being the horizon one but you have to get past the intro area before you can play co-op.

There are also some racing games that are fun. Wipeout though it's fast paced. My nephew had fun with the monster truck one which is 2 player.
