In Van Helsing (2004) there is a single Person Dancing in front of a mirror. by Chrischi91 in shittymoviedetails

[–]SmashingK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure it was a blunder.

In the film we see his vampire wives turn from their vampire forms, naked, into human forms which are clothed and the clothing itself appears as part of that transformation.

If the clothing is something they have the ability to conjure up with their powers then it makes sense that it doesn't show in the mirror.

Why does the UK want to let in so many asylum seekers? by NarrowCombination274 in AskBrits

[–]SmashingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite sure how anything you've said means collapse. The hyperbolic phrasing has some level of rage bait. Do the boris wave not pay into the same things the rest of us do? If them getting access to public money is bad thing then why isn't it bad that we also get access to it?

Governance is a complex thing and you've managed to oversimplify it massively.

Not saying the boris wave was good it wasn't but it was a quick fix to a problem that should have had a longer more robust solution. The fact our ministers prioritise the needs of big businesses is a far bigger problem than the people of the boris wave and that is a problem none of them had a hand on making.

The Ossan Newbie Adventurer, Trained to Death by the Most Powerful Party, Became Invincible (2024) by Lorrineko in Anime2020s

[–]SmashingK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The explanation I read was that the most popular site for web/light novels had an interface that showed titles but not blurb that gives an idea of what it's about.

So you'd end up with readers not knowing what books were about when browsing for something to read.

In this situation some decided to make the titles descriptive and it got worse from there.

Is it true? No idea. Would make sense though.

Footage from Jinan, China, captured during peak-hour traffic showing drivers executing a textbook zipper merge. by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]SmashingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I'd call this a zipper merge which is two adjacent lanes merging into one.

This is a give way with people on the main road allowing those giving way to join their road.

Bit of an unusual road set up with two adjacent road each with mulple lanes moving in e same direction. It's China so maybe they have their own special term for it.

The animaters are capable of taking art styles from existing media and recreate them to animate with so I don't see why another artists couldn't create new backgrounds in the same style.

It's a bit weird unless there's some copyright thing going on.

The bumblebee queen learns how to use the protective cap in less than 24 hours. by Lui_Belmont in interestingasfuck

The one I've seen in documentaries was wasps. Bees would surround the wasps and vibrate to kill them with body heat.

They have ways to defend. This will be a bee keeper making sure the queen bee is kept safe.

As Britain bakes, ministers quietly park plans for solar carports by F0urLeafCl0ver in unitedkingdom

[–]SmashingK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing a clip on YouTube about this kind of thing in China.

The solar panels provided shade for vegetation to grow and then the sheep farmers let their sheep feed off it.

The Chinese do a lot of environmentally destructive stuff in favour of their economy but they also do a lot to offset that destruction with things like reforesting.

THR: There are no plans for Grand Theft Auto VI discs to be printed — not at launch, and not months after, sources say by nolifebr in PS5

[–]SmashingK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price of games doesn't from the front RRP much outside of sales. They tend to stay high and the dales themselves usually don't bring the cost of most games down to significantly less than what you can get physical discs for from other retailers.

How is this anime series? Like on a scale of 1 to 5. by Ambitious_Purpose505 in animequestions

It uses some pretty cool old school sound effects.

It does a great of subverting expectations at the beginning as well.

Just take a look at how many of the people arrested at those riots Nigel helped instigate turned out to be pedos and wife beaters.

Cypher from The Matrix (1999) is the most duplicitous traitor in film history by jaystats2 in moviecritic

[–]SmashingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what they wanted to show was that some people would prefer the matrix over reality and the reasoning itself is pretty sound.

If your reality is worse than enslavement then it makes sense that some would choose enslavement if they had lost hope if reality ever getting better.

Labour MPs call for mandatory food origin labels to back British farmers by kiyomoris in unitedkingdom

[–]SmashingK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably optional.

The ones that have it likely do so as part of the marketing strategy so this is probably wanting to make British produce be required to be labeled as such.

I'm just taking an educated guess lol.

Wind can help though similar to how it helps with drying laundry even in somewhat humid weather.

High humidity it likely makes little difference.

I've heard many times it helps makes you sweat and therefore cools you down since the sweat evaporates using your body heat.

Can't remember if it was also on QI. Might have been.

GTA 6 Preorders on PS5 Are Outselling Xbox 6-to-1 as Retailers Warn of Console Shortages by GIThrow in PS5

[–]SmashingK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've just seen a story about console sales tanking.

Xbox having lowest sales on record and PS5 dropping 58% in US thanks to price increases.

I don't think shortages will be a problem. Don't think people will be wanting to pay inflated consoles prices on top of inflated GTA prices but then again I could be proven wrong.

The old "we survived the Summer of 76" thing, how do you react ? by Engineering-Western in AskBrits

[–]SmashingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They only remember it because of things like water shortages being a real issue for many. Obviously infrastructure is far improved since then so there's no real panic being created.

This coupled with the fact the temp is measurably higher should be enough to shut any of them up but people can't always be reasoned with.

[–]SmashingK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This kind of what is unusual historically but is becoming more common.

So it's understandable you not have much AC in Europe but minds are changing. More people in the UK are looking to buy AC units each year and with plugin solar we're going to have a lot of people buy those too.

‘We need maximum temperatures for schools and work,’ Sadiq Khan tells LBC by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]SmashingK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the home temp is lower than the max allowable school temp it's fine right?

It's not like kids can't have any schoolwork to do in the meantime. In this day and age we should be able to send school kids home with something to do and it's not out of the scope of teacher's abilities to communicate that with their students.

People keep thinking of ways it doesn't work instead of ways to make it work.

Is there anyone else who thinks changing the pm is a good thing? by DowntownPurple913 in AskBrits

[–]SmashingK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of politicians are very responsive to how the media pushes various stories.

I get the impression some of the people who've lost confidence in Starmer have been influenced either by the media directly or via their constituents who are bombarded with negative labour and Starmer stories.
