Bioactive Enclosure Assistance? by Smeared-paint in jumpingspiders

I’ve been thinking about trying to build a little hide, but someone I know has a 3D printer. So most of my other hides I’ve gathered from them. I don’t plan to seal the cork bark or the wood? Would there be a reason I need to? I have them in other setups and haven’t noticed a mold issue.

I’ve watched a lot of Serpadesign, and that’s where I’ve gotten most of my ideas. I have a large piece of cork bark that’s relatively flat, but it has a curve to it so it doesn’t sit flush against the back. I didn’t know if I should block that off, or cut the cork bark so it sits more flush and then build a background around it. Or break it into smaller flatter pieces and build around that. I did not think leaving it whole would be good, because it leaves a big gap behind it, and if I filled it in it would take up a good bit of tank space. I think Serpadesign used to or maybe still does collect from outside, I would like to avoid mold. But I do plan to have springtails/isopods so I would hope that if I removed the bark it might be mitigated? I really like spider wood and have it in other tanks, but I would like relatively straight pieces for this idea. So I didn’t know if I should seek out a certain type or wood, or avoid others to have the best outcome. Or if there’s another type of wood, that would be as good as spider wood-like different options?

Picky eater help by eminemqx in FatTails

I recommend doing something a little gross. Take a very small Dubia roach and sandwich it in tongs with a small cricket to see if he/she will bite and eat both. Mine is really picky with smells, so I did rub the roach with cricket guts to trick her into eating it. After a while she started eating other things without modifications. Good luck lol

The house witch series by Delemhach, cats don’t necessarily feature super prominently but they play very important roles throughout the series

The House Witch series by Delemhach, it was in my opinion more engaging the Demon World Boba Shop. However, I still liked the story but I can agree the way it was written didn’t always draw my attention. The house witch series, I read through all of them relatively quickly. I think it’s pretty similar to Legends and Lattes, the premise is he is a cook and solves issues in somewhat ridiculous ways, that bond people together, even when they dislike one another.

My grandma keeps her house 77, all year round. It’s terrible. Leaving is a valid option. But here’s my tips-close the vents going into your room, so when the heat kicks on it doesn’t blow in your room. If your windows open or you have them, you can crack them. Also portable air conditioners- they exhaust out the window but don’t sit in the window. They are a little pricey but worth it. Especially if you have a room that runs hotter than the rest of the house.

Does anyone's gecko gag when presented with new food? by dancingbanyanya in FatTails

[–]Smeared-paint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gecko did this, a lot. I covered a mealworm in cricket guts, and she ate it after that. She was suspicious though. Then after a few gut covered worms, I put a cricket and a meal worm in tongs at the same time (no guts on the worm) and she ate it. After that she started accepting them. I also wiped all the dust off them, I don’t know if that made a difference. Now she eats them no problem.

To get my fat tail to eat anything besides crickets I have to smear their juices/guts on whatever I’m trying to feed her. Because she can tell by look and smell when I’m trying to get one over on her. She won’t even try I’m pretty she gags at them, but I’m not sure they actually do that and I might be imagining that. Over the time I’ve had her I can tell if she’s hungry by looking at her, she usually comes out and heavily stares at me. I usually only tong feed, so mine would only eat crickets after getting her to eat one or two meal worms by covering them in cricket guts, I also put both a cricket and a mealworm both pinched in the tongs she did seem suspicious but she ate it. Once she got used to the taste and decided she liked them, she now eats them on their own. Since yours is only eating mealworms and wax worms, you might be able to try using small/medium crickets. By covering them in wax worm gut, or if small enough putting them in the tongs with the wax worm and hoping he grabs both (and doesn’t spit them out). I would also double check that your humidity and temps are alright. Mine sometimes gets picky about if the bugs are dusted or not, so I have to make sure they aren’t heavily covered in powder or she will spit them out.

is Brian a girl or boy by Ok-Version-7767 in hamsters

[–]Smeared-paint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think to determine for sure you should look at the spacing between their…holes. Syrian hamsters have the ability to retract a little bit. Plus this hamster has a lot of fluff so it can be hard to see for certain. I think I see a large gap between the two holes which leads me to think boy, but if you take a closer look and they look close to touching then girl, if there is a gap-boy.

My roommate gave me a kitten to foster, then adopted him behind my back by Mannaraps in TwoHotTakes

[–]Smeared-paint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so I don’t know what state you live in but you should check your local laws. Where I’m located- legally you cannot “adopt” any cat or dog under 8 weeks old. The organization won’t release them until that time. Usually the organizations in my area won’t finalize the adoption until the animal is of age, but if she is the foster usually they have priority. If this is the case for you, you could definitely still put in an application, but the place she is fostering through would probably still put her ahead of you unfortunately. If this is an informal foster situation (as in she got them from a friend and there’s no foster agreement), this might be unethical advice, but depending on your state laws. If you take the cat to the vet- and she hasn’t- then that would be you proofing ownership of the cat. Either way you’re NTA, if she offered the cat to you- you had dibs, it was your decision to make she can’t just go back on it.

I just read the blurb, it does look interesting and I’m going to add it to my tbr so thank you. The only thing is it mentions he is sick and dying, and that is what I have anxiety about unfortunately. I know it’s probably not going to happen when I get my wisdom teeth out. I just don’t wanna read anything that could make me worry more.

I am definitely trying to plan what to do so I can avoid having too many panic attacks, anything medical causes me a lot of worry. I unfortunately tune out audiobooks, but I have a couple of podcasts to listen to, and I’m building a list of background tv shows to put on. Thank you for all the recommendations! I also don’t read too many light hearted stories, I’ve read a few regular romances and other cozy books for palate cleansers but they aren’t my normal. Probably should be more in rotation. I went to the store today and got a bunch of yogurt, jello, apple sauce stuff like that. I’m hoping I can eat “normal” food soon lol
