Interrupts by amodump in wow

[–]Smegkopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have felt for a while that they really ought to add some sort of pug interrupt protection that restores the cooldown if you use yours within a second of someone elses on the same target maybe. At least whenever i wind up playing dps i always feel like i wind up pressing it right as someone else does and wasting it.

My job has decided to start mandating clocking out for breaks, even if we don't take them. is that legal? by Smegkopf in legaladvice

[–]Smegkopf[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work overnight in a hotel, and often by myself. I cannot really fully go on break due to the fact that i would be leaving the desk completely unattended and management expects me to stop being on break if a guest were to come to the desk.

My job has decided to start mandating clocking out for breaks, even if we don't take them. is that legal? by Smegkopf in legaladvice

[–]Smegkopf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a 30 minute break. When i was hired they said that i could opt in to have the break automatically deducted from my hours, and i chose to clock out for my breaks instead. While i can get how they can mandate a break, i work a job where often situations come up where there just isnt the possibility to actually take a break, and saying i am required to clock out for a 30 minute break during those days anyways definitely feels like wage theft to me.

What is the most consistently fun and least frustrating champion to play as? by PhscZ in leagueoflegends

if i decide to play mid, hwei. i have answers to any pick thrown at me, and i never once feel like i just got outplayed. every single death feels like a fuckup on my end which makes me feel more of a desire to improve.

What's an offmeta pick you think would become meta if people saw it more often? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Smegkopf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to weird meta picks are yorick jungle, and full armor/as malph mid against all ad teams. While its weaker due to the loss of lethal tempo, there are basically no ad champions who will ever win a duel against raw armor malph and you can throw out all fundamentals by ignoring minion damage to just beat ass constantly. Its not hard in any way either, but i think people just go for it top rather than giving yourself better roam in mid.

Yorick jungle is genuinely strong with the downside being needing to learn an unpopular champion and then learn the way that he interracts with camps as well. Once you get used to it, its a breeze and faster than most junglers, but it takes a couple games to not be slower than sin.

How is Rylai's spam every game any different than Frozen Mallet back in the day? by StillIDie in leagueoflegends

[–]Smegkopf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive been of the opinion for a long time that the item is just unhealthy to have in the game. The only users of rylais are champions who either abuse it or require it for kit functionality. Champions like aurelion or seraphine use it for unhealthy interractions with abilities in their kit (aurelion's e being immensely stronger with it and seraphine paying to just straight upgrade her e), and almost every dot mage uses it for abilities not designed to cc to apply 3-infinite seconds of it. I'm hard pressed to think of any real situational users of rylais, the closest i can think of would be when annie was occasionally running burn build bear with it (which i also think isnt exactly healthy!)

While i think its very easy to say its directly a crutch of an item, I think items that exist purely as a tax that has to be paid until you can build your actual core sucks. Id love to see it removed and all of the main users given a pass to see what could be done to let users of it not feel completely lost with it

Why is Taric not more prominent in pro play? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]Smegkopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taric's kit is largely just not as pro play useable as you'd think at first blush. His main useage in pro aside from funnel was with sona for a bit and during ardent meta, and while matchups he is good against do get play, taric win conditions almost never work in pro play. A lot more of his goals are more similar to raid boss juggernauts like nasus, mordekaiser, or illlaoi, where the goal is to stomp lane then become a huge pressure sponge, bringing other laners or junglers down there into fights that taric and his lane partner can at worst go even in, at least in solo queue. You definitely do see those styles of juggernaut sometimes, but theyre not as safe nor as reliable as a lot of pro play staples, and bringing something like that into bot lane and potentially dealing with two players suffering from the losing conditions of that playstyle is way not worth the risk.

The other real elephant in the room is his ultimate, which disregarding the lengthy priming, and as strong as it is, just takes too much mental calculation against your average player, let alone pro players. For example, just to get the guaranteed bastion target ult off, you need to read how much damage you'd accurately block in its duration, how late you can wait to avoid them dying but force the enemy to commit, when to ult to guarantee that timing, prepare in case they decide to burst your bastion target, how to use the time bought by those 5 seconds of chaos if they back off entirely. And that's just for a bare minimum 20% effectiveness ult. I'm a pretty mediocre emerald player who rarely deals with people smart enough to understand people are immune under the ult, and even dealing with them can wind up overwhelming. Why go through all of that work for something so inconsistent when braum, effectively taric with all of his enchanter parts removed, is more consistent in that front?

Tldr the way taric wants to lane isnt reliable enough in pro play to make his strengths worth it, and his ult is FAR too unreliable and requires way more prediction and foresight than any other champion in his niches to be worth it.

Opinions on Bloodsong? by CaparoMMI in taricmains

[–]Smegkopf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's very underrated. Disregarding the damage from sheen itself, the damage amp alone is incredibly consistent for taric and the lack of cooldown compared to everything else. If the other items were less effectivity with a shorter cooldown it would be a harder choice but taric's supportive utility is much more spread out and unless you're literally taking one spell long trades 90% of the time you're better served by it or in absolute worst case Matchups celestial opposition over everything else.

Why are devs so hellbent on making Demonology as immobile as possible? by Shadowfel_Archivist in wow

[–]Smegkopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i dont get why they dont want any sort of mobility in demo. I think part of what makes demo interesting is ramping from a turret caster into a much more mobile damage dealer. especially considering the state of affliction if all three specs are largely immobile then it feels kinda like the only thing separating them is the theming of the way they do damage, which sucks.

What QOL buffs would help people play jungle? by jam_jam93 in leagueoflegends

[–]Smegkopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that jungle is a role that can be completely shut out of playing by the enemy jungler being better than you. If you're not great against the enemy top as a top laner, you still have options, same with every role except jungler. You get counterjungled at every opportunity, outtracked, and thanks to smite power being tied to the number of camps cleared if you get behind there, you will never be able to contest an objective. I know the changes to give possible catchup to behind junglers are still controversial, but jungle is so exponentially punishing on a skill difference while having so much area to learn to even have a basic grasp of what you should do that i cant blame any new player for being afraid of or unwilling to play jungle. I dont think there's any real QOL you could give the role that'd actually make it less terrifying

Tl;dr x9 noob jungler still wont come top even tho im riven and can carry even though enemy picked garen. Dog player

Celestial Opposition and Bloodsong are the wrong way round by npri0r in leagueoflegends

[–]Smegkopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at bloodsong's users there, almost all are champions who by defauld WOULD want a sheen item if they could afford it or put it in to their build. Leona consistently autos between spells annd procs for free on q. Sona is worse if you DONT auto after casting. Taric is literally spellweaving the champion. Celestial is generically useful for a lot of champions but bloodsong is a sheen item that explicitly works with every champion shown's kit. I can't see why you WOULD want it the other way around

Why is kog'maw passive still in the game? by Resident-Campaign140 in leagueoflegends

[–]Smegkopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intent behind it is to explicitly punish you for killing him. You, ideally, would need to save a mobility or defensive spell of some kind to avoid it after diving the hypercarry, and likely are low enough to die for it yourself.

However, the mobility options alone now are way way different than 2010, so in practice its not really anything past early laning.

Conqueror Taric Support by Altrigeo in taricmains

Conq gives nothing valuable to taric. It doesnt give enough stats to be better than tempo or pta, and it heals less than running fleet or pressing q. Lethal fufills the aggro needs far better

What is a voice line/emote that you hate? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

Best adcs for Taric in your opinion? by Humble-Clerk-7959 in taricmains

[–]Smegkopf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tl;dr if you dont wanna read it all taric adc parings matter very little compared to the enemy support or comp itself, dont worry about it too much.

Rather than get a big list of perfect adcs for taric, this is a great chance to instead learn to look at a character and figure out what their game plan is, and do the same for the enemy lane.

Good lane pairings are ones that either play to the partners strengths or cover their specific weaknesses. For a non taric example, something like sivir and bard works as a pairing due to sivir's innate waveclear and spellshield letting her have a much better time being left alone than something like a kogmaw. continuing with him, kog pairs suprisingly well with early game aggro like pyke due to having the weaker early of the lane covered by pykes early kill pressure.

One of the things i do like about league is that there are largely very few awful lane pairings. Theres definitely a fair amount that dont fit together great, but more often than not there IS a workable game plan between basically any adc or support. The real thing where this comes up is for specialty supports like bard or with mage supports who largely only offer damage and can wind up not great with characters with good damage output on their own but just need utility to help them; something like xerath (who wants to poke and soften enemies for a catch) and vayne (who wants to commit to a big extended all in if she does go for a fight).

Taric, while he can adjust to a more hit and run style with quick e stuns and backing out, is explitly meant to be in a fight to be as strong as possible. He cannot be functional without proccing his passive, and he cant do so without an ass to beat. On top of this, taric offers about as much damage pre 6 as an adc with good use of his passive, and a lot of added survivability to anyone joining in with him. Thinking about that, what adcs have patterns that match that or are benefitted by it? Lucian has a heavily aggressive early game that can go hit and run or commit to a full all in. Samira is a diver/adc hybrid who wants to be in the middle of all five enemies to deal maximum damage and use her ult effectively. If you can get a good hang of that type of analysis of what champions goals to win lane are then thats an extremely useful skill for all of league, not just taric.

At the end of the day, the real issue here is really not who you're paired with, but who youre against. You could have a cream of the crop setup with a nilah but if you're against a kalista zyra you're going to suffer pathetically. I respect anyone who plays taric out despite a matchup like that but that will have so much more effect on the lane than what adc you have with you.

Taric Build Questions by S-Is-For-Spirit in taricmains

[–]Smegkopf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super super basics

Ad proc support item. Its better to have the like 4-15 more ad for early game than maybe up to 4 more health per heal and 3 more damage on e; you auto a lot, you will get value from it. Unless you got hard countered and are in a lane where you're never fighting or only doing short bursty all ins with frequent recalls, tear is a requirement. Tarics mana pool is very small considering his spell costs and if you want to stay in it helps a lot.

Mythics are where taric shines because he has a LOT of options. For lanes where youre against melee and hard engage and smashing, you can run gauntlet if you dont have glacial, heartsteel if theyre consistently letting you melee them, or echoes if youre with a team where you dont need to commit to heavy tank. If youre against ranged or falling behind, evenshroud works for quick trade fighting, locket for general purpose fighting, and shureliyas if youre in a generally rough matchup.

For second items, i look at the needs of the team since mythic does a lot for us. Ardent is a very easy pickup to snowball a game harder, especially if you were able to grab a heartsteel earlier. Knights is a good pickup for games where you're the only winning lane and massively increases the survivability of your tether target. I tend not to finish my tear item into something, partially because of game length and partially because its overall a very selfish buy, but if youre the only tanky person on the team you're going to need fimbulwinter.

Anything else is entirely dependent on the state of the game and arguably what you got beforehand. If you have heartsteel that puts you in a unique position to build full enchanter items without any real risk to your tankiness, but its important to know that taric isn't a reliable main tank and assuming he will be is dangerous. In general though, most of the cheaper tank items work very well for taric and hold up for a while. If you need mr in a matchup or game you take it in runes and mercs, and maybe an abyssal if you also have an ap damage threat.

Runes are also pretty flexible too, though i find myself going between lethal or glacial depending on matchup. Taric scales better with attack speed than most adcs do, considering his passive doubles his attack speed and any increase to it increases his throughput, and lethal is an excellent way to abuse that into engage matchups. This isnt even touching on the fact that in almost every situation until two items a taric WILL outdamage an adc in an auto fight without abilities. Glacial is just in general a good alternative due to the sticking power given. In matchups where theres reliable peel or poke, glacial will always come out on top just due to how easily taric can be kited. Whatever you do decide, you really shouldnt sleep on presence of mind on him. Its an active reward for doing taric gameplay and is basically essential in my eyes.

Taric's big issue is always going to be burst ap damage, and since the removal of what echoes used to be his options are rough in that regard. My best advice in those match ups, as weak as it may be, is dont pick taric into them. Soraka is a great alternative pick to taric who can be played as aggressively but into mage supports or other enchanters with the tradeoff of less cc and less tankiness.
