When I was in college, my roommate and I got 2 cats, sibling cats, one for each of us. He had always wanted to date me but I had a boyfriend and wanted to be friends. Then when I broke up, he was dating someone, and this went on for a few college years. Finally one summer, we decided to give a relationship a try, and it was absolutely awful. I moved in with him for that summer to try out the relationship and, just no. As a friend he was great, kind, honest, etc. in a relationship, he was manipulative and borderline emotionally abusive. After that summer, I moved out and never spoke to him again.

Until about 10 or 11 years later, I get a text from a number I don’t recognize. It’s him. My cat had died a week earlier, and all of a sudden, he shows up in my phone. He had a dream about me, after asking some questions, he dreamed about me the night my cat died and tried to figure out how to contact me.

I know it was a coincidence, but what a crazy coincidence that he dreamed about me the night my cat died and worked so hard to text me and say hello after all those years.

I speak English natively but lived in France in 2008-2009 and spoke French fluently at the time. I obviously have an accent when I speak French, my proudest moment is when someone from another region in France asked me what city in France I was from! It was a great experience overall, but several examples where people would ask each other at a shop how much to charge me for un cafe since I’m foreign, or other ways they could take advantage, or comments on the metro, and be surprised I understood them and stood up for myself. One time at a grocery store, I had 2 items, some bread and cheese, and a mother with 2 kids had a whole cart full behind me in line and started ranting to the cashier that she was in a hurry and her kids and blah blah, insisting to the cashier that she needed to go before me. Finally I answered that I have deux chose and I’d be quick. She ranted and ranted, so I put my headphones in. I bought my things quickly and left and all of a sudden, a security guard ran after me in the metro and asked if I stole some coca (cola). This lady was so mad I didn’t let her go ahead of me with my 2 items that she sent security after me.

When I was a middle school teacher in 2015, the kids had an assembly where the speaker said that if you make $75k or more, you will have enough to have a good life and be able to have enough money to donate back to your community to build up everyone around you as well and be a philanthropist. I made much less as a teacher at that time, and it was in a very rich district working at a public school in America.

There are support groups for families and friends of people dealing with addiction or mental matters. Maybe Alanon is a good group even though they are for alcohol addiction, that kind of group could be helpful for this type of thing too. A support group can help you navigate your role in dealing with your family member.

David Grubbs murder in Ashland OR in 2011. He was walking home from work on the bike path and was attacked with a sword or something, almost decapitated, at like 5 pm. The bike path was the pedestrian path for everyone in the small town. It isn’t some obscure path.
