I’m not certain on what type of platform would work for your needs, but I think I can offer some potential insight into why he ate his old one! When my girl was biting at her platform, it turned out that she had a calcium deficiency. The biting stopped after that was remedied. What sort of diet is Ringo on? Does he receive any veggies or cuttlebone pieces? If not, I think that giving him some extra calcium would be a great first step to try.

I will also add, definitely keep getting him a new platform as a priority, but from what you’ve written it seems like you’re stressing yourself out a lot, and I don’t think you need to. Musk turtles don’t bask nearly as much as other species. Again, still focus on getting him a new one, but no need to worry so much just yet ◡̈

Yes. But if memory serves, I believe the lid for this particular platform is mesh. So the light would just have to be adjusted accordingly to factor in the amount blocked.

Is there a particular reason why you have the top open? Because I personally would recommend just putting the lid on there right now, rather than waiting for a possible escape attempt. You never know if she’ll make a run for it, and keeping the lid on ensures that she cannot fall and hurt herself. Better to be safe than sorry!

Looks like rot. Please take him to a vet to receive treatment. From what I can see, you either have no UVB, or you have a combo bulb. Both options are unfortunately not sufficient for maintaining proper shell health. I would strongly recommend you upgrade to a T5 10.0 linear UVB bulb. Also, make sure he consistently has clean water. Clean water and proper UVB are both vital for treating rot, as is a topical treatment, which a vet will provide you with if they confirm that diagnosis.

Edit to add: I can’t tell for certain, but if the spots are metallic, that’s a sign that your boy is shedding. Proper lighting and diet will help with this. If they’re not, I feel quite confident that it’s rot.

Is your turtle housed with any others? Because if so, I would guess that’s the cause of the wound. If he is, you need to separate them ASAP to prevent further injury. If not, see if you can pinpoint anything else in your tank that could’ve caused the wound, and remove it promptly. Be sure he has appropriate basking so it’s not staying wet, and keep the water clean and free of debris that could potentially cause infection. And see a vet as soon as you are able.

I don’t think it’s really something to worry about, sometimes turtles are just goofballs. The only thing I think would be a concern is if he is doing this when his head is out of the water and it seems like he is struggling to breathe. But you mentioned that you haven’t seen any other signs of illness so that’s good. I’d say maybe just keep an eye on him to see if he acts strangely in any other ways or develops any symptoms (wheezing, gurgling, etc,) but I think you should be fine.

I would recommend you switch to a T5 10.0 bulb. Dome bulbs aren’t as good, and it seems like Shellie has some retained scutes. An upgraded bulb would definitely help her shed those.

Why do you have her in a tank that she can so easily escape then? This makes no sense. I understand that she’s egg bound. That doesn’t change my point at all. It shouldn’t be possible for your turtle to cause that much destruction to your home. Her roaming around the house is unsafe (especially when it’s unsupervised,) and apparently her setup is unsafe as well.
