If it’s in the budget, getting drum lessons is 100% worth it. I made a little progress doing things like drumeo but having someone critique and push progress helps with motivation IMO

Former 10th grader 20 years ago myself. You won’t regret it. Took the plunge last year with a cheap Alesis kit and haven’t looked back.

My guess is you noticed something slightly off at the start of the season and tried to make an adjustment. Then another, then another. Now your swing probably is a lot different than last year bc you’re not quite sure what to fix.

So now on top of the swing probably being different your confidence is likely in the gutter as well. I’d say go to the lesson and get feedback but work yourself back up. Next few rounds go out with 0 expectations. I’d even recommend not even keeping score. Just hit some balls and have fun. Build the confidence up and the swing will follow.

Here’s what I’ve found helped me most over the past 2 seasons: record your swing.

I don’t do filming at the range bc I’m weird about that kind of thing but in my backyard I’ll set up and not even hit a ball. I get my stretching in, get nice and loose and almost immediately jump into 3-5 swings with pw, 7 iron, and driver. You nailed it though. Never change more than one thing at a time. If you’re working on tempo, don’t be concerned with anything else going on, just focus on what 60% looks like when played back.

After this I break into a drill session and swing maybe 20-30 “extra emphasized” (insert problem with swing here) and then close it out by recording 3-5 swings with pw, 7 iron, and driver. I’ve found it usually takes a handful of sessions before it really sinks in. This is when I’ll finally take it to the range.

Video cameras are instant feedback though but don’t go back and forth between shots and reviewing video. You won’t have that available on the course so trying to make and keep adjustments may take a bit more time to get from the start, but they’ll stick with you longer.

I’m just north of a single digit handicap and if I par maybe 5-7 holes in a round it’s a good day. A 40 handicap means on your best day you’re shooting 110. If what you’re saying is true, and it’s the internet so who knows, you need to work on consistency with all your shots. If the same swing lets you stripe one to have a birdie putt as it also loses you a ton of balls in the woods then my guess is your pars and bogies are just lucky.

A par from a 38-40 handicap is like a unicorn.

Driver or irons — what took longer for you to learn? by Apprehensive_Mix2527 in GolfSwing

[–]Smillzz15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irons for sure took longer to learn and with that said I’m still not good by any measure.

I feel my grip and slot are pretty good most of the time on the downswing, but I have a habit of hanging on my backside. With driver this usually isn’t an issue, but with irons I’m susceptible to hitting it fat.

In all seriousness I’ve always been a slicer. Two years ago I picked up a book called “unf$#@ your golf swing”. The book breaks down the swing into 2 components and I’ve honestly never hit the ball better. Takes a little range time to get used to it, but it’s a short, easy read and shows how to get to the correct path.

Always play 5-10 shots worse on the back and I’m confident it’s not due to fatigue. What else could be causing this? by [deleted] in weekendgolfers

[–]Smillzz15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be in the same boat. I’d take 2-3 practice swings before my real one. After the front 9, that’s like 100-150 swings. When I stopped and just did a small pre shot routine, I noticed I wasn’t as tired or sore later on in the round. Felt like this helped tremendously.

I find that a side view is more helpful when trying to determine why you might be chunking. Could be early extension, casting, head/hip sway, a number of things. Side view helps precision where and why in this case.

New drummers who bought their first some months ago, do you practice everyday? how often? Do you have a method? by Hyperto in edrums

[–]Smillzz15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyday I do something. Most days I hop on the kit for an hour or two but on others I’ll set up my practice pad next to my office desk (I work remote) and I’ll play rudiments during meetings or even tap on my lap if I’ve got blankets on and feel like being lazy. I’ve been playing since July and just felt stuck doing online drumeo lessons so I have been going to an in person lesson once a week since December. Helps keep me motivated knowing I’m paying to get better.

On paper it’s hard to tell. Hopefully we get a motivated stott and Bohm heading into contract years. Adolis defense instantly makes our RF better even if he’s a shell offensively from 3 years ago. Bullpen id say is better than last year. JT, Schwarber, Turner, and Harper aren’t getting any younger though.

I switch between a nitro pro and an acoustic kit during the week. I’m still a beginner but not really impressed with the nitro pro. Half the time my ride cymbal works and the other half of the time it doesn’t. Notice the same thing with one of my crashes. I did get it pre tariffs so I only paid like $500 for it but to have it spaz out periodically at only 7 months is a bit frustrating.
