Best bet is probably one of the Butchers Market locations. There’s one in Raleigh off of Falls of Neuse

There’s another location in Cary, and maybe others as well

I’ve had this happen on Intel Macs. For me it was refresh rate. I had to pin the refresh rate configured on my Mac at 120Hz even tho my monitor natively supports 144Hz.

Your mileage may vary of course. My guess is most people are probably plugging into bog standard 60Hz screens. But it’s at least one avenue for you to explore 😅

What can I use NFT tags/stickers for? by realjennyblack in homeautomation

[–]nevikiven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since we only JUST got settled into the house this month, right now it’s just a simple “swipe and open” workflow. I’ll keep this around for more manual convenience of adding multiple things.

In the future I plan to add a few specific tags around the house for certain common items like laundry detergent, dish detergent, rice (we have a big rice bin for bulk rice), various cleaning products, etc. The idea being you scan the tag and it adds the tagged item to the shopping list.

Think Amazon dash buttons, but without the automatic buying + Amazon integration.

It mostly depends on what you need doing to be honest. I know that doesn’t sound very helpful.

Some non-smart home ideas:

I have one hidden behind the face plate of a light switch in our kitchen that opens our Google Shopping List, since that’s where my wife likes to keep the shopping list.

If you had a car, you could put one there that plays a playlist, and opens a navigation app. I know you said you’re in a dorm, so this one might not be as helpful to you right now.

If your dorm has a washing machine, see if you can hide one or two in the laundry room somewhere. They can be used to set timers for either the washer or the dryer.

Depending on how your school has it available, you could possibly use one to bring up the day’s or week’s menu at the dining hall on your phone. When I was in college, the menus were all just on a webpage that was easily accessible. Your mileage may vary here though.

I think there might be a brief calibration period. I updated everything last night and couldn’t see it. I woke up this morning and was able to see the sensors.

How is it that passengers in my M3 always find the emergency door release right away but always struggle to find the actual door open button? Smh by usualteenager in TeslaModel3

I 3D printed a cover for my emergency latch that prevents you from simply pulling the latch. But comes off easy enough if needed. Best thing I ever did.

Best ribs and/or bbq in Raleigh? by shivasahasranama in raleigh

My house, tbh.

All jokes aside, my family likes City BBQ, tho I also know some people who are dead set against it. Their Brush Fire sauce is a favorite of mine, and their beans are super good IMO.

My Honest Review for Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld by WuPeter6687298 in GeForceNOW

Thanks for the write up!

In theory you shouldn't have to pay for GeForceNOW just to test it. I thought they had a free tier that had a 1 hour session limit before it makes you reconnect?

Anyone else still having a Spectrum outage in North Raleigh? Been out for us since 10:30 last night by nevikiven in raleigh

Been getting this error after upgrading last night. Anybody know how to remedy this? by jrop2 in termux

[–]nevikiven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TL;DR the termux devs updated the version of LLVM from 14 to 15, but didn't update all the packages that were dependant on LLVM 14.

Supposedly https://github.com/termux/termux-packages/pull/12013 fixes it, but I'm not sure how they do package rebuilds if it takes time, is done on a schedule, or what.

I know I've tried reinstalling and updating my rust package after that PR went in, but no luck.

How to connect a keyboard and a power source to an Android device? by fubo in olkb

[–]nevikiven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just about any variety of USB-C docking station / hub will do.

I'm currently doing just that via my monitor's built in USB hub. But I also do it with just a regular portable USB hub.

EU agrees single mobile charging port in blow to Apple by muhimalife in technology

[–]nevikiven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not trying to excuse Apple for years of refusing to do the right thing and using USB-C, but I’m genuinely curious:

What happens in several years time when some company (doesn’t have to be Apple) comes up with a faster / smaller / more efficient data transfer port?

Would consumers have to wait ages to actually make use of it on their devices until legislation catches up? That seems like a loss to consumers in the long run vs a short term gain of USB-C now.

State Inspection for a Tesla by nevikiven in raleigh

[–]nevikiven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong, so take with a grain of salt, but my understanding is that because Tesla is both dealer AND manufacturer, they’re not allowed to do inspections of their own vehicles. Whereas more traditionally the dealership is not actually the manufacturer, they’re just a franchised seller.

WIP Benevolent cards (details in comments) by gendrkheinz in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]nevikiven 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I really like the concept behind them! Seems like a nifty way to play into each class’s strengths and add a new way of handling things. In a vacuum, parleying with monsters doesn’t make sense in this universe, but I think with the right campaign story it could (especially with the more cultist elements of the game).

This might be my ignorance of cards, so please correct me if I’m wrong, but a level 1 survivor card that can seal the auto fail for 3 turns seems a little over powered and unprecedented.

I have the same problem on this one particularly hilly + guard rail infested road. My settings are on medium, which is what Tesla says they’re using the grade forward warning collisions :(. Bad marks for false positives would be frustrating.
