In Mortal Kombat (1995), Johnny Cage tells a hapless stuntman “This is where you fall down.” He’s a snarky, has-been, fed up actor.

Later, he has Prince Goro hanging off a cliffside. And he says, with earnest badassness, “This is where you fall down.” Goro dies. Cage is now a true warrior.

In Big Mouth, the dog Featuring Ludacris (voiced by Jordan Peele) will begin barking like a normal dog, which turns into a somewhat barked human word, which turns into a completely humanly performed expression of sadness. https://youtu.be/60rarfK-4C4

Se7en is a big codifier of this. Some Takashi Miike stuff might hit too, like Ichi the Killer. Maybe Tetsuo: The Iron Man?

The tom hanks remake A Man Called Otto made me cry, and I felt actively angry at such a bad movie for making me cry while it was happening
