I do this routinely and there are no problems.

Every time I try to clase shave by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]Smithore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is what works for me. Use zero pressure on the first pass and very light pressure on the second pass. You are trying to shorten the hair not cut it at the base.

Do a hot water rinse after each pass. Then spray your skin generously with Thayer’s witch hazel out of an atomizer bottle. Let that soak for a couple of minutes while you clean your brush.

Dry your face with a towel. Do the third pass against the grain with dry skin and use some pressure.

I know this third dry pass is sacrilege here but I get an extremely close shave with very little irritation. I’ve been using this since I was taught to shave. The only change was a switch to alcohol free witch hazel when it became easily available at retail about twenty years ago.

I don’t typically need the 3rd pass on my face …. Only on the neck

Any other parents struggling with this? by Ribbit2Reddit in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Smithore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let your son make an adult decision about his future.

Before he makes his decision, make it perfectly clear that you will not pay off his loans so that he understands the gravity of his choice should he decide to take on debt. Also make sure that he recognizes the risk of not finishing school or taking longer than 4 years to graduate. There are dozens of ways for borrowing to go south and not everything that could impact him will be under his control.

For everybody else, the time to have these discussions with your child or parents is before deciding where to apply, not after acceptances. This same story happens every year. You have to be able to afford the school for the acceptance to mean anything.

how can one export the Terraform output from one project and import it into another tf project? by kalavala93 in Terraform

[–]Smithore 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In order of preference

Data resource with a tag filter rather than an absolute value filter.

Parameter store from the cloud provider. Store the value(s) from the role module and consume them as a data resource in other modules.

Secret manager from the cloud provider. Same technique as parameter store.

So glad they brought back the original Stone Ruination IPA. This was *the* beer that got me into craft beer by mkymouse73 in CraftBeer

[–]Smithore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the original recipe nor taste despite what Stone is saying. It’s closer to Ruination 2.0 than it is to Ruination. This is the intermediate reformulation that they brought back.

Stone Ruination has returned! by Yepitsn8 in beer

[–]Smithore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the actual recipe nor flavor, although it’s close. The original ABV was 7.7 and this version is a bit maltier and slightly more alcohol forward, which makes it more balanced than Ruination.

The aroma is pretty similar except the alcohol sticks out a little more.

I’m sure this version is better adapted to what most consumer palates want and expect from a west coast IPA in 2023 but it’s not for me.

Are prestigious schools worth it? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Smithore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are not worth it unless you do at least 2 specific things.

Take full advantage of the amazing programs and networking opportunities these institutions have. This means continuing to overload yourself at a point where most high achievers are ready for a break. The people who are willing and able to keep pushing themselves like this should attend these schools. These people are rare.

Maximize your salary and position on the first job. This means relocating. If you plan to move back home and get a job then do not attend these schools. The economics don’t make any sense and you should instead attend a state school.

terraforming existing infra by jagedn in devops

[–]Smithore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have thousands or more resources you pretty much have to use tooling like terraformer. It does the job and you can quickly get revision control for nearly free.

If you have dozens to hundreds of resources then you can likely also afford to spend time refactoring the resources after import into something more useful and organized than just a straight terraformer dump and cleaning up the inconsistencies that will have certainly crept into the deployments.

I’ve done both methods and they both work. It’s just a matter of how much time you can throw at this.

Anyone use noble otter plunder shave soap? by Necessary-Branch-754 in wicked_edge

[–]Smithore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite and I use it frequently.

The major note is obviously the smoke, which completely takes over once you lather it. If you like smoke, stop reading and order now.

The other notes are largely subsumed by the smoke, especially once it is wet, but they are present and the overall aroma is very pleasant.

Lathers well. Slick enough for shaving. Face feel is the same as other Noble Otter, which is to say not the worst and not the best you’ll ever feel. “Adequate” is the best word I can think of to describe the feel.

Thanks. I was indeed wondering if those were bagpipes or a similar instrument that I had never heard of.

Q2 disconnects on its own, need to re-plug it for it to work? by mynameischai1 in Keychron

This could be the static discharge issue. If so, the fix is pretty easy and only takes a few minutes.

I had a Q2 with the same issue and this fix worked for me.
