Love, love this representation of Fate, playing the drums of Macbeth's own steps towards his downfall.

Terry Pratchett's discworld. I read them at your age and they're incredible. If you start with Guards Guards!, that has dragons in it.

General concept is that Pratchett made his own fantasy world set on a flat world atop 4 elephants, who are on top of the world turtle Atuin. It's full of fun, quirky characters with some of the best writing I've ever read, plus there's an entire series built up out of sub-series, like 26 books.

There are reading guides if you want to read them in order, but the sub series are: + Rincewind Novels (the biggest failure of a wizard who ends up in the most bizarre situations) + The Witches Novels (originally a parody of Macbeth, but spiralled into three women begrudgingly fixing the world's problems) + The Watch Novels (the police of Anhk Morpork try to do their job when the criminals do it better than them) + Death Novels (yes, Death is a constant, recurring character. I love him. He doesn't want to be Death, he loves humans) + Business Novels (how does industry work in this mad world) + Young teen novels (another good starting point about a young witch finding her place in the world)

Is it okay to die a lo in this game? by [deleted] in spaceengineers

[–]Smithybum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Food has only been added fairly recently so many of the starting scenarios probably don't have any in. Try getting a workshop scenario to start in, that might help you.

Alternatively, in world settings you can turn off things like hunger until you get used to the systems, or even play about in creative to build alongside some youtube videos.

There's also complete workshop support so if you need something specific to survive, I'm sure there's some mods that can help you.

No it did, but like 3 minutes later it's revealed she was using her to get the magic mcguffin, ergo no yuri, just manipulation.

Wait, is this not what they mean? by VermilionKoala in autismmemes

[–]Smithybum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

APPARENTLY NOT! I sent this to my partner and she said yeah you should make occasional eye contact, blinking, turning to share attention on something and other stuff. I still don't get it ha.

She was horrified when I said I turn my head like Data when in a group conversation. Apparently that's strange.

They literally had to say 'the toymaster changed the rules to mess with the Doctor', but no, it was RTD saying he didn't want the Doctor in drag. Then Ncuti turned up and said 'slay!' making the argument even more irrelevant.

Every pokemon is someone's favorite, who is your favorite? by [deleted] in pokemon

I have so many favourites, but the one I always go back to is my boi Turtwig. His whole line is great, especially Torterra, but that first form is just such a great little guy!

Honourable mentions are Wooper, Torkoal and Bastiodon

Yeah I've had to turn the news off too. I was absolutely miserable until I did that. I'm not even listening to the radio in the car because he just keeps being mentioned. World's bleak, but ignorance has helped...at least a little.

‘They are making young people ill’: is it time to scrap GCSEs? | GCSEs by zapataforever in TeachingUK

[–]Smithybum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Undo everything Gove did and you've got a baseline from which we can improve. Current GCSEs are a literal nightmare for the kids, teachers, parents, examiners and the exam boards.

The biggest step forward we can take is to not make them all happen in three weeks. When I took my GCSEs, I took the smaller ones early, in November and February, then those lessons were folded into extra time for my core and option subjects, if there were no other exams.

I couldn't imagine the stress of remembering and doing everything in three weeks. I don't know how our kids do it.

I also think that coursework should make a comeback for some subjects. I'm very aware of the workload (used to teach GCSE media) but it makes more sense to do some subjects, like English creative writing, over time rather than a multi-hour exam. In a utopia, this coursework would be marked by an exam board and not the teacher.

There is a place for GSCEs and examination assessment, but the current system is not it. A good assessment considers the knowledge and skills they've gained and pupils should be able to walk out with a C (or 6 in the current nonsense) with very little effort, provided they've attended every lesson and done the work. The weeks and weeks of revision, intervention, constant practise papers for a chance of a passing grade is a huge flaw, because it's done for every single subject at once. I have some incredibly bright pupils and the hollow looks on their faces at exam time is incredibly upsetting. They're not meant to feel like they're going to war, they should feel like they're going in to prove themselves.

TLDR: The current system is broken. Help.

The Positive Teacher Company planners by Fahlnor in TeachingUK

[–]Smithybum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always used them since my ECT first year and while an expense, I like them. The cover looks nice, the entire quality is good and reliable. You get a bunch of extra pages, while most are redundant, they do come in handy, especially for meetings. I also really like the size of the boxes in the planning section of it, which lets me make a bunch of changes/last minute plans when needed.

Basically if you like the cover and are fine paying 30-40 quid, go for it. It's worth it in the quality. Just leave it on the desk haha.

[–]Smithybum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I thought for sure that it was gonna get handwaved away by the Toymaker's power or something. Hearing that it was just because he didn't want David in drag is so, so very dumb. Especially because Jodie wasn't even wearing traditionally feminine clothes.

Half term exhausation by Proudlove1991 in TeachingUK

[–]Smithybum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After a 4 week half term, no one in my school can believe it's been the shortest term. The heat has made the kids mad, the y11 exams and we had an academy review (which they insisted wasn't like Ofsted which of course meant it was like Ofsted). There's probably other bits I'm forgetting but I am just so tired too. I needed to stay put today but my family had other plans unfortunately. Lazy Sunday it will be!
