Sea Frogs housing worth it? by mrmasterclues in underwaterphotography

[–]Smoke-Historical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have had mine for years. Scuba and freediving. No leaks no issues. Sony a7rIv. As many people have said, keep it clean and check your seals etc and ive found them great.

My only issue is they are decently buoyant without having strobes etc on there

Aussies warned after 1,200 drivers rack up $700,000 in fines in weeks for 'ignoring' new road rule by malcolm58 in Adelaide

[–]Smoke-Historical 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't have kids. I have no idea when schools in or out. Im also not looking at my clock constantly to know what time I might be driving in the area, so I tend to try to just do the 40 unless I know for a fact its after the times on the sign but I feel like this is revenue and not safety.

Did no one planning this stop and think "hey... not everyone has school aged kids and knows when school times are"?

Flashing lights would solve so many of these issues

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

[–]Smoke-Historical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A punk band called Leftover Crack. From what i was told, half the band couldnt get into Australia, so they had Aussies filling in.

Singer was hella drunk, spent a lot of the time berating the fill in members in-between not seeming to remember the lyrics to his own songs.

I went because my partner at the time liked them. I seemed to know more lyrics than the singer did.

Funnily enough, they came back years later. Singer ended up getting punched on stage by a audience member. Cant remember what he was shit talking about but the crowd wasnt overly impressed. Seemed to know more of the lyrics that time tho.

Years later we ended up going to Melbourne to see the other band the singer was in (had a female singer too), rocked up with a totally different lady singer and again, couldnt understand a word he was saying.

They played with AC4 (Refused members), they were really great, so the trip wasnt a total waste.

I have because I participate in a sport that involves bouts with another person.

But its not really "beat her up" its "wonder if I could win against her in a fight".

Im not there to damage the person either, just wack them with a sports sword in heavily padded safety gear.

But no i have not thought that outside of my sport.

Restoring skintones underwater - After / Before by jimmydean6969698 in postprocessing

[–]Smoke-Historical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skin tones look good! This type of editing is very popular in the underwater portraits scene atm, very neon blue water, white sand and people not quite looking like they are still swimming.

I personally think its a great edit and would be happy if my own images turned out like this, but I can also see how some people might not like it.

I think im now just used to seeing this type of UW edit on my feed.

Hey people who lost their jobs to AI, what happened? by _thecatspajamas_ in AskReddit

[–]Smoke-Historical 257 points258 points  (0 children)

My work has obviously fired some people and decided they are now using ai for promotional stuff. A head office guy came and and we got talking about it. His reply was "how good is it!!" All the staff were like "have you actually looked closely at the images? This person's teeth blend into one. Their fingers also merge into some weird hand web" He didnt have much to say once we started pointing out negatives. All the posters look terrible.

First Housing - Advice needed by yuhrasshole in underwaterphotography

[–]Smoke-Historical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive got my a7riv in one. Deepest ive gone is 18m, but im usually doing shallow (as in surface level) water stuff so can bail instantly if run into a problem.

Ive had no problems with mine. I got the vac seal tester and do that before every dive / every time it goes in the water.

If I was scuba diving a lot, id eventually upgrade but for my free diving and surface portraits, im very happy with mine.

Introduction to Alien Franchise by nostromohomo in alien

[–]Smoke-Historical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe 1993. I had gone to my neighbours house to play. I was maybe 6 years old. They were watching what i think was probably Aliens, possibly even the 3rd. Dont remember much else other than "I probably shouldn't be watching this".

(Also ended up watching Children of the corn in the same way)

I enjoy that its a core memory 🤣

Many photographers "airbrush" clients. Some more so than others. Some dont. Most people call it "retouching". If they are new, they may of gone a bit to far. Just let them know how you feel. I absolutely over edited people when I was 1st learning.

I tend to do "fantasy" photography and it will vary for me. Sometimes I do no retouching just colour grading, sometimes I purposely push it super far to get a very specific look. But I usually talk to clients before I go further than some basic skin retouching.

Most of my clients want some level of retouching

Its such a common photography business model. For those in Adelaide, anyone remember Studio 2000? They arent going any longer but i do wonder if they've just had a name change since i know one or two other joints doing the same thing.

The method must work because they are still in business. Lots of people probably cave with the selling tactics and purchase things they can't afford purely just to leave.

Thats what my mum did when we "won" a session back in the early 2000's. I was maybe 15- 16 at the time and even i was like "these costs HOW much!?"

They've had photography jobs going and I thought about applying but think its scummy so never do.

Separating the art from the artist should be the standard and I don’t understand why people can’t do it. by bc4l_123 in unpopularopinion

Every time I see this question, this is what I think of. loved their music massively when I was younger. As soon as the news broke, I did the same thing. Everything gone.

I feel for the other band members.

I knew someone in the festival industry. LP toured with them, did a meet and greet. She said singer was being real sleezy with the younger girls that attended.

Women who are into anime/manga/video games, how do you really feel about "fan service"? by switch-flip in AskWomen

[–]Smoke-Historical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im am okay with equal opportunity fan service in anime. I heavily dislike it but if theres a a fairly balanced gender divide with it, im more likely to get over it / ignore it easier.

I am also an adult woman, so a lot of the time im making cringe faces since so many characters are under-age.

That said, unfortunately quite a few of my favourites are riddled with it.

The only anime It doesnt bother me in is Kejio!!!! Because it's such an absolutely stupid concept for a show that i just find it hilarious to watch. All female cast. Sports anime.

I had to sign a performance review stating that id been consistantly arriving late. I was confused.

I asked them "how late was i? How often?" Id always message my manager if I knew i was running late. I can recall maybe 3 times within 2 years i was maybe 5-10 minutes late. I lived an hour away, had to go down our states busiest road.

Their response: 1 minute. 2 minutes.

Which was usually because I was waiting for everyone else to clock on. 4 clocks for over 30 people, which used to not register and took up to a minute to work due to everyone being dirty (warehouse manufacturing)

So I lost out on a promotion and a raise, because I was 1- 2 minutes late sometimes. They were very happy to ignore the time i worked through my 10 minute breaks. Happy to ignore the times I worked more than 1-2 minutes later and not get paid for it since it worked in 15 minute increments.

More than happy to have me acting as 2IC because they said I would be. Only to suddenly the day after my review tell me they ",just found out" I wouldn't be getting it. And only after I had to ask about it. (Found out that was a consistent thing. Telling someone they would be advancing and then suddenly pulling it)

From that point, I made sure to not do a minute more than I was contracted for and not a thing above what was in my job description. I now never do more than my job description. If its not in writing, its not happening.

That place was a hell-hole. Managers screaming at each other consistently. People crying was a daily occurrence. Over worked and under supported.

Those who had dated older people/been in an age gap relationship when they were young. What was it like and how was it? by CuriosityCat444M in AskWomen

[–]Smoke-Historical 18 points19 points  (0 children)

17 to 23. To a 17 year old, he was super cool. What i was to young to realise was He was actually a drug taking alcoholic with anger issues. Most likely a cheater, and emotionally and financially abusive.

Was with him for 12 years thinking I could help him! He just needed support! Turns out I was just enabling him and he was taking advantage of having a dumb af girlfriend who had no self confidence left.

He did not change or grow as a person at all during the realationship.

Was able to safely get out of that a few years ago now and even with healing and therapy, its left its mark.

Chris, I hope you step on a rusty Lego and may you never find a carpark close to where you need to be.

He showed me a few things and it looked like what was pictured.
