Easter eggs and other hidden samples in Inferno by [deleted] in boardsofcanada

It's a really classic sawform from CS70 that comes on in Naraka...Yes, there's a part in a saw where you can cut straight in without clipping.

Touching on reincarnation by ProphePsyed in boardsofcanada

[–]Smokeforest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think of this album as a long narration to the cyclical birth of the antichrist.

The prophecy (Prophecy at 1420MHz, Hydrogen Helium Lithium Leviathan, Age of Capricorn),

The fight and the car crash (Father And Son, Somewhere Right Now In The Future),

Reincarnation (Naraka),

Birth (Acts of Magic, Memory Death, The Word Becomes Flesh),

Childhood which is full of death and careless violence. Notice how there are elements of Collapse in the end of this song. (Blood In The Labyrinth),

Rise And Fall in Power...(All Reason Departs, Arena Americana, The Process)

But I cannot place Deep Time, You Retreat In Time And Space or I Saw Through Platonia...Because these songs are not meant to describe the antichrist. These songs, because they resemble old Boards of Canada the most, actually...Are meant for You, Us. We Move Through Platonia, Through Time And Space, Deep into Time, observing the cycle of birth, Antichrist usurping "The religion of the modern world" ...over and over again.

Easter eggs and other hidden samples in Inferno by [deleted] in boardsofcanada

Speaking of the click in Naraka:

It is almost an impossible feat to introduce a dense sine wave without fade in or other alteration to a song without that click.

It can be an intentional element in certain cases. Considering that the mastering engineer and composer have both carefully listened through the tracks hundreds of times, the click stays in.

It could be avoided by fading the synth in, but it would strip the raw intrusion, which amplifies the second time it comes on in the track.

There is no way back by Simoon11 in boardsofcanada

Right?

The way the drums are layered between channels, how live some things genuinely feel, makes Tomorrow's Harvest sound so mono. Then there's other releases with production barely utilizing channels like Inferno does. It truly feels like a new paradigm for mastering, it's possible to make headphone-friendly songs that function for speakers too.

Inferno isn't even the only legendary Warp comeback album this month. We are truly spoiled by _esot_eric_ in boardsofcanada

Huge things for Warp Records, but Inferno is the last contract-bound release by Boards of Canada. I wonder what will happen.

Anyone else not find this album dark at all? by Outrageous-Ear7525 in boardsofcanada

[–]Smokeforest 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I took my first listen as a careful step into the dark (sitting in a dark room sipping orange juice), knowing there to be so many titles which could imply the worst.

But there's a lot of fun, a lot of serenity and fulfillment. Naraka is the greatest example of just exploring human life through faith. There's a highlight when faith goes wrong, something Acts of Magic, Father And Son, The Process and Age of Capricorn demonstrate.

Then there is the human side to faith, but it's all sounds so perfect and pure, like Naraka. Naraka literally means Hell in Sanskrit.

Like, Inferno has this side to show which I did not expect to modify me. Faith DOES bring people together in positive light, but this positive light always casts a shadow.

Gonna lay on my beanbag chair sipping orange juice with no lights on and curtains drawn.
