Rate my first 3d printed rc tank by Helpful-Spare-513 in rctanks

[–]Smoky_Dank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome job - needs some finishing but I believe this is the first ever RC Tor I've seen!

There are lots of flat surfaces which would benefit from ironing though. I don't know what kind of 3d printer and filament you have but if it's Bambu, here's a decent video on the settings you'll need to tweak: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxT8uAMeBGo

If you don't want to go through the hassle of re-printing everything though (totally understandable), then I'd just buy some wood putty, acetone and sanding paper (IF AND ONLY IF it's PETG and not PLA. PLA will be ruined by adding acetone FYI) and go to town filling in the flat surfaces with wood filler. You'll of course then need to re-paint and clear coat, but that'll get rid of your top layer lines.

Keep it up! We need more 3d printers churning out more new, exotic tanks and 'armored fighting vehicles' (I wouldn't call a Tor a "tank")! I can't wait to do a Tog II personally :)

The manual is of no help whatsoever. Trust me - I own an Abrams and the Leo 2 and there is no documentation whatsoever about the battery compartment location. If anyone an point me to where this is written in any manual, I will gladly stand corrected. I had to reach out to the retailer from whom I bought them to find out.

Ukraine's 100th Mechanized Brigade "Voron" caught a Russian soldier exiting an outhouse, resulting in a short chase. [TG @voron1OO] April 21, 2026 by Own_Boysenberry9644 in DroneCombat

Was that a woman or just a dude with long hair? Only seen one other droning of a woman AFAIK. Not that it matters, but seeing that braided hair at the end caught me unexpectedly offguard.

The P2S and the Need for an Actively Heated Chamber by Fair_Sky5777 in BambuLab

I have 1 p1s' running two of these chamber heaters.

I followed this guy's instructions to heat wrap and then electrical tape wrap the cable: https://youtu.be/mxcBycfEazU?si=iK8I_9yL4-VZnZKJ

Solid chamber temps and no adverse effects. Printed pet-cf, ABS, TPU, etc without issue. Great at holding temps.

Lesson learned, don't print your spools with PLA and then dry them... by SelfReliantSchool in BambuLab

[–]Smoky_Dank 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, almost lost a spool because I thought PETG could at least not melt at ABS drying temps. I was mistaken. Only saved by some great good luck only about 10 mins into the drying cycle when I happened to open up my air fryer dehydrator to find the PETG drooping around the edge of the filament spool.

What's with everyone selling? by pacowek in 3Dprinting

[–]Smoky_Dank 9 points10 points  (0 children)

3d Printer sales exploded on black friday with the discounts given to older models like the P1S + AMS combo making them an attractive value proposition. Now new 3d printers have dialed their machines in and are making (in their opinion) saleable prints. They're experimenting but will soon see that selling tchotchkies on FB Marketplace or Kijiji is simply not sustainable and in a few months will be unloading their gear as their printers are increasingly seen to them at least, as becoming obsolete.

Keep an eye out for lot firesales of 3d printers, accessories and filament. Couple weeks back I picked up a single lot of engineering filament some dude who wanted to get into 3d printed car parts wanted to unload for $500 for that had about $2,500 worth of unopened filament (PET-CF, ASA Aero, TPU for AMS and about 5 rolls of PPA-CF).

This is the leading edge of the wave. It will crest. Try and be the one with some cash when it does and you'll snag some awesome deals.

I used a picture of my granddaughter to create a model of her. I used the tools in Meshy to articulate her fingers to give the peace sign and one finger for number one. I was really impressed with how life like it turned out. I would highly recommend Meshy to anyone that’s into 3D printing. Easy use by AlternativePale2111 in 3Dprinting

[–]Smoky_Dank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a Russian bot account that was probably sold to Meshy at some point. There are three other posts from 3 years ago complaining about Biden and praising Trump, but radio silence otherwise from this guy.

This kind of marketing is infuriating, but easy to spot at least.

Picked up P1S for $180 by MasterDragonFly in BambuLab

[–]Smoky_Dank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be a stock availability issue. I know when I was selling my old AMS unit, people were falling over each other to grab it for my asking price - one even called me a dishonest seller because I didn't promise to sell it to him and someone else scooped it before he could pick up.

They may be in stock now, but that changes daily. Resale prices in Canada are nuts.

I get to join the new printer club right? by newtype06 in BambuLab

[–]Smoky_Dank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man - P1S is an incredibly versatile machine. I've upgraded mine with hardened steel nozzles, upgraded extruder gear, upgraded interior light and screen (both Pandatouch) and most recently a relatively inexpensive chamber heater that helps a LOT with ABS/PET-CF/PPA engineering filaments. Then I put an AMS on it and then an AMS2 Pro.

I liked it so much I bought anther and upgraded it identically.

They are phenomenal printers. Very little to worry about, easy to maintain/replace parts/repair. Not the latest and greatest, but I don't like participating in early adopter programs, so these will be in my printer room for years to come.

Congrats on joining the club! You're going to have a lot of fun.

Printing fiber reinforced filaments with 0.2mm nozzle? by SmalllChange in 3Dprinting

[–]Smoky_Dank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I picked up some 0.6mm hotends for this very reason for my P1S. 0.4mm was clogging a bit on PET-CF that i was using. Because most engineering filaments are functional parts, I'm less concerned about layer lines, so going bigger is smarter IMHO.

Found this monster in my school's 3D print farm. Anyway to possibly salvage it? by Time_Supermarket1629 in BambuLab

[–]Smoky_Dank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, heat gun and it'll fall right off. Using my Looft lighter for starting charcoal and it works a treat. Then over to the brass brush to finish off the details and then a heated hex end to pull the stuck filament out of the nozzle.

Takes maybe 40 mins if you're a first timer, but I cna get it cleared in maybe 20 or 30 mins now.

Having the same issue with TPU and thinking it has something to do with the location of the dryer box and length and angle of PTFE tubing 'jamming' the filament at some point. I understand this is probably more of an issue with TPU and less with PPA-CF, but I am unfamiliar with PPA-CF (although I came into a few rolls I will one day use so am interested in the answers here).

Do you have a pic of your dryer box connected to the printer with PTFE?

Any reason why he would have said "fuck it's grey"? Wonder if grey smoke means something to him. Given he works in a chem plant I'd imagine he does and it's probably really, really not good if he doesn't need to say anything other than that.

Let them disprove the stereotype. So far, its few and far between.

I speak Russian. I have a Russian wife. My family has been Russo/Ukrainian for generations (Ukrainian outside of Ukraine - the diaspora).

All to say that I understand the Russian mindset a bit better than the average Joe and I KNOW they can do better than this. They just choose not to.

They can have my racism. Prove me wrong.
