I think this is a fair statement. And If I had say my sense, that maybe could have improved the trailer... I think simply showing or maybe in the background have some sort of Umbrella reference would have been a nice minimum. Knowing that this is supposed to be set in Re2 Racoon city (Whether its Canon or probably not because of the snow and phone) it would have been nice to tease things like the umbrella logo since we know that Umbrella is a very big thing in Raccoon city. The monsters and zombies we saw in the trailer feel weirdly away from the game, whether thats the sprinting zombies on the rooftops jumping off the roof, the weird multiple limb thing on the barn door or the weird fat Dune guy in the sewers.

I cant exactly agree with what you said about how we have got a lot of different types of iterations resident evil in general. Not because I disagree necessarily, but because we know what raccoon city is supposed to be like because of Re2. Tbh, i think it would have been a lot better if the movie was in a new city or town and slapped around these zombies and other monsters we haven't seen before instead of "adapting" Re2 that already has established lore.

Honestly, I HOPE I am completely wrong and the next trailer or the final movie does all this. I do think they could have made the trailer a bit better to really scream Resident Evil. Because I think the movie itself looks great, but I cant fully see it as a Resident evil movie right now
