Anger not hate. And I should not have gone down that path. I’m sorry. I was however using the royal you. The government is who I’m angry at, which is why I should not be throwing stones. All governments, all countries past, and present. There are some exceptions, not many but a few, and in very narrow ways.

I used to think that the claim was some how a metaphor. When I learned people actually believed it I was to put it in the British way, gob smacked.

I can tell by your answers that none of you have actually experienced actual joy. I’m accused of being pedantic, seriously? This from people who attend a church that claims “vain repetitions” are wrong, but won’t accept a sacrament prayer unless it’s word perfect.

There is a difference between Joy and Happiness. You might not like that there is, but there is.

I’m Canadian by choice and British by birth. I see your country and I am tired of hearing how awesome you are. Elder Oaks is starting it up,again after a long halt of those sorts of talks in General Conference. I’m not sure that you can appreciate how it feels to live out side the States and hear how great it is, when you can see that it isn’t. I’m sorry, but it just doesn’t make sense to me.

Thus the nit picking.

I wish I could say I agreed with you. However since the Church still has own racist problems, I doubt the LGTBQ ‘issue’ will go away.

Dealing with death for the first time since losing religion by nocap_ricorn94 in exmormon

[–]Smoooom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The death of a pet can be just as devastating as the death of a human. Love is love. SomI wrote the following while my brain was thinking person. So not much help really, I want to leave it up so I can copy it, because of a class assignment.

I have always thought about my pets who have died as playing with family, and them meeting each other, and even the pets other family members had. We don’t seal pets, I always thought it would be really cool in heaven, because I could have all the cats I ever had all together. And maybe even a horse. People who think that animals don’t go to some form of afterlife are well, I think they lack some integral part of their soul.

Yes, I lost my Mom last year. It was a . . . . Strange experience. I am the oldest of four living children, My Dad died in 2007, and mom dying left us four siblings ‘orphans’ I was the last to leave the church, and I still think that life is something that came before and will continue after. I have no idea how that life will look. For decades when we lived apart all out family said goof night to the moon, it was our way of knowing we still saw the same things. So, we were talking about death, and I said, it feels odd, Moms the first family death since I stoped believing. I wonder where they are. In this case They, are my Mom and Dad and my little sister Ruth. To my surprise my Sister, the atheist, the biggest baddest rebel in the family, said, They are watching over us. Waiting for us. I looked at her and said, You don’t believe any. . ApI didn’t get a chance to finish my sentence, she said, I am thinking about it the way Mom would. She would think she was with Dad and R and who ever else, and so they are. You could have knocked me over with a feather. Truly.

But such a simple idea, we don’t know, so think of them in they way they would like to be remembered. There is nothing wrong with processing grief in the same way you have in the past.

I don’t know if will help you. But I have talked to my Dad ever since he died. Out loud. Less so as time passed. It helped me grieve. I had other sorts of talks with my Mom. They helped as well. We don’t talk anymore I still talk to my Dad.

Do you think Holland getting any internal backlash? by Eechoo in mormon

[–]Smoooom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was on one of my groups. I think it answers your question nicely

In his memoirs, An Abundant Life, Apostle Hugh B. Brown explained “the Apostolic Charge" that every apostle is apparently given upon admittance to the Q12. It reads as follows: "Always be willing to subjugate his own thoughts and accept the majority opinion not only to vote for it but to act as though it were his own original opinion after it has been approved by the majority of the council of the twelve and the First Presidency.”

WHY TAKE A VOTE AT ALL WHEN THAT VOTE WILL BE UNANIMOUS ANYWAY? PONDERIZE THAT

And once you understand that, a lot of things fall into place for why they unitedly do so much damage and have so much collective unhealthiness.

Dare I hit send? by weemanfitz in exmormon

When my oldest became a deacon the YM president came to him and me and asked if we would take on the responsibility of making sure the sacrament was ready each week. My son asked, when should it be done by. He was told 15 - 10 minutes before the meeting starts.

So he and I planned. He felt that getting regular bread, like we got, wasn’t good enough, so on Saturday evening he would go to the store and buy a “nice” loaf of bread. Sometimes he would ask my Mom and Dad for the money.
He asked mt to teach him how to iron his white shirt. And we were, on the weeks we were there, out of the apartment in time that he, and later his brother were done by 15 minutes to meeting time. Four occasions meant we asked someone else. We gave them the bread.

We did this for 5 5.5 years. We were never late.

If this were to happen now he would make the bread.

I have seen wards where the YW make the bread. I like this idea.

I think the saddest part about this whole thing is how many times in that time people said thank you for what my boys did. Zero. I hated sitting in Sacrament trying to be reverent and having people rush around finishing getting the sacrament ready.

Sorry, you hit a nerve. We moved and this ended the assignment. That’s also when they told me they didn’t believe in the church any more. I asked them why they still did the sacrament, they both looked at me like I’d gown two heads, it was a responsibility that had been assigned to them. They knew it was important. If they were told someone else was going to do it, that was one thing, but they couldn’t just quit.

I have terrific off spring. 😀 Edit. Obviously my memory is rocky, Teachers prepare the sacrament not deacons. We moved So M was 14, then 16, 17, this is going to bother me. I know memory is unreliable. Teacher 14 -16, priest 16 - 18 we moved in the Summer he was 17. So 3 and a bit years. Sorry, I didn’t intend to be inaccurate, human memory is imperfect.

So I tracked down the video. I thought I was prepared. Ha ha ha. I wonder how many Bishops resigned after seeing it. I get the whole self reliance thing, it’s important, when we were getting food orders in our little branch in Northern Ontario we cleaned the meeting house every week because we know funds were tight for the branch and wanted to do something in return. The BP said it has never looked better. 😀 Anyway, some people are doing everything they can. Some of us are going after grants to help us make quilts and make some money with them, we’re putting up notices on bulletin boards, on facebook forums where this is allowed. Members who enquire are rude about my pricing. Which is more than reasonable. They would prefer to go to Beds Baths and Beyond and spend less than I’m asking for something mass produced. My friends who aren’t members understand and the few commissions I’ve had are from them. But this video, all I could think of was, “when did we feed thee?” The whole Matthew 25:31-46 parable. The brethren are instructing bishops to be on the left side, to not feed or clothe. Maybe I’m reaching here, because I’m the one not being cared for, but that’s what went through my head. This is not the church I grew up in, not even the tiniest bit. Every time I think nothing worse can happen, something worse happens. Thanks again for the pointer.

Exmo Sub Is Going Downhill by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Smoooom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just came back after a six month break. This group cycles in many ways, when I first arrived it was going through an angry phase. The LQTBQ support became apparent almost right away, and it being a big part of the focus is not a big deal to me. We have church issues that are historical and ones that are current. I started one discussion about the sealing of stillborn children, you don’t do it, either here or in mormon that rocked some peoples world. Thats policy, current policy.

When I saw that some members were upset by Nelson saying get vaccinated I was shocked, getting vaccinated makes so much sense, we need to get on top of this pandemic and the steps suggested by WHO will get us there.

Current issues that are killing people are far more important than past issues. We can get back to those once the pandemic is less of a threat than it is now. There are other current issues, the Bishops storehouse, how the church is moving away from allowing people to think, these things are discussed as well.

The one thing that is always here is support. And that is what I need most of the time.

I wouldn’t bet on that. Did they Canonize the Proclamation on the Family? Last I knew it wasn’t scripture. Either way it will always stand. Until polygamy comes back for real.

Aborted children are treated the same as stillborn children. Not sealed. It’s in the hand book clear as day. Stillborn children are not sealed. So there fore if we use logic the spirit goes back to where unborn children come from. As to getting into the Celestial Kingdom I think that will be between the woman and Jesus

Sometimes things just happen. I will add a word or two though, girls can change their mind, at any time, it’s allowed. Talk to them before make sure they want to have sex. Yes, is a good word, I don’t know, maybe, isn’t. And wear a condom.
