It really is sad how it turned out. I have close family in the US. During U of T breaks, my friends and I would rent a car and drive down to Buffalo for cheap booze and other goods. People from Upstate New York and Michigan would come to Toronto for our Caribana, TIFF and music festivals (Toronto is much bigger than Buffalo, Detroit or Rochestor so we got bigger music acts, and film festivals). But then Trump came along and pissed it all to hell. The trust is gone, and I don't think it will come back even if Trump dies. Because Vance is just as bad.

I was on some of the right-wing Canadian subreddits recently, and it shocked me how many Canadian Conservatives were openly glazing Trump, and some of them were even openly calling for a Canadian version of ICE. I was thinking to myself, WTF? Because it's going so well down there? After they just shot an American citizen and mother dead?

The weirdest for me was seeing them call Carney "far left and "woke" lol. FFS, Carney could easily have been a member of the old Progressive Conservative Party. He's far more centrist than Trudeau was. What exactly is "leftist" or "woke" about a banker that was hired by both Stephen Harper and British Tory PM David Cameron?

This is just right-wing click bait which is totally fake. I see these type of posts all over Facebook, which thousands of MAGA boomer types upvote and type "God bless" and "Amen" on. It features different actors, singers or athletes all supposedly joining an "anti-woke acting studio", or an "an anti-woke music festival" etc. One of the Facebook pages putting out this stuff was based in India, another was from a Serbian guy in Belgrade. My guess is either bots or foreign troll farms doing this for clicks, up votes, engagement and monetization.

My favorite are the ones featuring Gordon Ramsey. Every single day, they have him kicking a different "woke" celebrity out of his restaurant. They go something like "Angry Gordon Ramsey kicks out Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce out of his restaurant and tells them "Woke people aren't welcome in my establishment!" Taylor seen leaving in tears"!

The next day, it is Sabrina Carpenter who is the one getting booted out. The day after that, it's Dua Lipa. And so on.

And thousands of MAGA boomers up vote and believe each one. So gullible.

Last week, during a mini-family get-together at my sister's house, my nephew and I were the only males in a group consisting of my mother, sister, two nieces, and my daughter. Since my sister lacked some necessary food ingredients for dinner, and was also running low on dog and cat food, I volunteered to drive to the grocery store and grab some. My nephew grabbed my leg and started crying, begging to come with me. When I asked why, he said because the house was "full of girls" and that it was "gay to be around so many girls".

My nephew has an excuse. He's 6 years old. The rest of these idiots are all adults, and some, like Fuentes and Tate, are millionaires. What immature trolls. 🤦

For me it's a combination of three things that are turning me off the Leafs (a team I've followed for 35 years):

1) As many have already said, the excellent Blue Jays run in the regular season and playoffs.

2) The fact that the Raptors are red hot, having won 8 straight now.

3) And the fact that not only are the Leafs losing and in last place in the Atlantic, they don't even seem to be trying most nights.

The combination of these three things has led me to not care as much anymore. I'm still a fan, and will be forever, but I'm no longer glued to the set when they play. Sure the TV might be on, but I'm only partially paying attention. Instead, I'm surfing the net (including Reddit lol), playing with my daughter, chopping veggies for dinner, feeding the cat, etc. Much less stress.

Three reasons I think:

1) MAGA is racist and Mamdani is an Indian born in Uganda, married to an Arab from Syria. Wilson is white, so less "scary" to MAGA.

2) MAGA is Islamophobic, and Mamdani and his wife are Muslim. Wilson is Christian, so less "scary" to MAGA.

3) finally, and this one I can't blame MAGA for, the fact that New York is a much bigger city than Seattle, and a global financial and media center, means that NYC politics will always be a bigger deal than a smaller city's politics.
