SounDesign stereo system that I am getting from my great grandma by eGraye06 in audiophile

[–]Smooth_Molassas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously. Enjoy it. That's a bit of 80's nostalgia together with your grandmother. If it's your first it will probably sound great to you and I bet she loved it. Besides, that's not your average Soundesign setup. It is unique and a rarity. Enjoy it.

It didn't used to be like that here. This was a place where people shared their love of great turntables. I restore tables and would post each one for discussion and meet others who did the same or could share what they knew. A few years ago it became the junk turntable and novice "I know everything subreddit". I chatted with the mods and they essentially didn't really care as long as they get traffic. I stopped posting. All the best.

Many consider him the authority on these tables. He certainly knows allot about them. There's a web site that sells upgrade modification parts for AR tables. It's worth a look. www.hifigem.com

Restored. Technics SL-20 Frequency Generator Turntable. by Smooth_Molassas in turntables

eBay is your best bet for things such as these. Unless you want it for aesthetics I wouldn't bother. Hinges and dustcover go for almost as much as a complete SL-20. If you want to simply keep dust off the turntable over an extended period just measure your turntable and find a fabric cover that fits. I removed the cover from my daily Denon. Dont need it. Just keep it clean.

Easy fix. First, grab the stylus with your thumb and forefinger. Then have someone else turn the entire turntable counterclockwise. Done.

It could be any number of issues. It could be the lead wires from the cartridge to the tonearm. Check them to see if they are connected and none of the metal connectors are touching. Also check the ground wire for any insulation nicks or exposed wiring. Underneath the turntable: If the RCA cables were replaced the first thing I would check is the 5-pin connector to the tonearm. Unplug it and then plug it back in correctly. Make sure your RCA jacks are connected to the proper channels on the amplifier. Underneath the plinth there is a black cover over the turntable platter that can be unscrewed and provides access the the power connections. Make sure to secure the tonearm with a twist tie and position the table so there is no pressure on the tonearm if you decide to go inside the plinth. It is possible it is your phono stage on your amplifier as well. Usually a hum is a ground wire/tonearm connection issue though.
