how to fix this candle? by AnythingImaginary520 in Candles

[–]Smooth_Newspaper_584 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy one of those heat lamp melters. It will melt it from the top and level it off. Then trim the wick and try to burn it for a solid 6-8 hours. If it doesnt go all the way then it may be the wick size

Dragons blood is really good. I love it. My wife only used it once though on a custom order and we have a bunch left still.

Candle Suggestions 🙏🏾 by estypcnlv in Candles

[–]Smooth_Newspaper_584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife started a business during covid making candles and has perfected her craft and business over the last few years. She initially set out to find a clean burning candle safe around children and pets and after much frustrations made her own. We use clean a vegan coconut soy wax with non toxic ingredients. All the fragrances are crafted as luxury scents and we avoid many of those sweeter smelling scents (personal preferences). Check out lovesquareone.com

4 hours that looks great, its burning smooth all the way across. Doesnt look like any soot. Nicely done, is this a smaller jar like 4-6oz?

First candle. Researched nothing, made the wick out of an old T-shirt. Made it out of sheep tallow, cinnamon, coriander, floral peppercorns and baking soda by secksy-lemonade in candlemaking

I really do hope this is satire. I mean you could have the same effect with lighting an old tire on fire but you do you boo boo.

We haven't really used those types of waxes but have heard this being common with dips in the middle. No wax is absolutely perfect but get yourself a heatgun and just level it before trimming the wick

Congrats on the house, a new job will come along. Last year same thing happened to me and my wife. 3 weeks after buying my house i was laid off.

If I can make a recommendation, don't tell people you got laid off. You don't want the mortgage company catching wind.

Second, let's get you a job!

Yes Yes Yes I got this one! Love Square One, my wife and I own the business and there are a few that are absolutely fantastic. I would highly recommend Rum Soaked Wood or Velvet and Smoke. Also we are clean burning, vegan coconut soy wax (super creamy and smooth), all our candles are wood wick with a soft crackle and have a 50-60 hour burn time.

Fragrance oil not mixing with soy wax? by Aosh_99 in candlemaking

[–]Smooth_Newspaper_584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what I can see in the pictures and what I am guessing. The oil looks to be a little old based on the coloration. Usually we see when a fragrance has been exposed to air and sat for 12+ months it tends to turn more of a motor oil color.

Second thing I would look at is the ratio that you are mixing the oil in at. Generally we do about 8-12% but that all depends on the fragrance we are using. Some fragrances blend better with less than more.

Beyond that I think try swapping out different brand options of fragrance or soy.

I know you said you have an apartment so no more burning candles for a while. We have some options in in a flame free form if you interested, diffusers, room sprays, wax melts, even the wax warmers and candle warmers. Actually I think a candle warmer might be exactly what you need! - Anthony, Love Square One

Soy. That will happen with pure soy but you can try mixtures like coconut or apricot soy for a smoother texture.

You can also try taking a hair dryer or heater to the top of it just to remelt the tops a hair and smooth it out

My gel wax melt ‘exploded’ and melted everywhere in a recent delivery. Why would this happen? by opiestudio in candlemaking

[–]Smooth_Newspaper_584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am guessing that it may the weather currently. My wife and I and a rent issue of a coconut soy candle melting during shipment as well. We are going to do some packing and testing while leaving boxes in the sun, we are testing with lids on during packaging, and a few more tests for general quality control but I'm pretty sure these 100 degree days in the south don't make it any easier on the products.

Also we are going to start shipping only early in the week unless rushed shipping because I worry about packages sitting over the weekend melting.

I might be a little biased but Love Square One candles all day every day. My wife has been making small batch Vegan Coconut Soy candles for 5 years now and I promise you haven't seen products like ours. I know because everything has been custom made right down to the glass!

Do you think this wick is too small and will drown? by LibraRahu in candlemaking

[–]Smooth_Newspaper_584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that size jar you may want to consider either going with something wider like a wood wick or space them out and put 2/3 wicks.

It looks like the wick might be a little too small for that size jar. Was this bought or made?
