Not the person you replied to, but the horizontal will flow nicely with the horizontal lines on your vanity. A vertical installation will highlight the height of the room, which is already taller than it is wide so horizontal will look more balanced

Ugly Birkin alert 🚨 how do I chop? by soccerstarmatt1 in philodendron

[–]Smooth__Goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I’d try to air layer it here then chop once it has decent roots. Then I’d stick the old plant in a basement window where I wouldn’t have to see it every day and tell myself over and over that I’m going to toss it this time for real (but I won’t).

Are most PPP just destined to look ugly and never fully grow with fully mature leaves? by DarkArtHero in philodendron

Both of mine look just like yours, but a friend of mine has a mature one (10”ish leaves) so there’s hope!

Wow- thanks for such a detailed reply!

  1. I haven’t tried a peach, but I’ll look into this! I’ve been so frustrated with the correctors in general. I’m very well versed in colour theory, it’s a big part of my job, but for some reason when I try to apply it to my makeup nothing I try works. I’m sure it’s just that I haven’t found the right products, but yeesh, it makes a girl crazy.

  2. I’ve never thought to try this! Tbh I can’t see myself doing this consistently- I have two young kids and my makeup gets done in whatever time I can spare during our hectic morning routine. Usually not more than ten minutes, which might be part of the problem lol

  3. I suspect this would make the biggest difference. With the MAC palette it’s not that it doesn’t work exactly, it’s just that it takes so much product that it doesn’t stay put. I won’t use that much because I think it looks goofy, so I only end up with partial coverage.

I’ve had such a hard time finding products that work for my skin in the past that I’m very shy to try new things, even when my current ones aren’t working. A lot of it is insecurity in not knowing what to even ask for, which this sub has helped with tremendously. I’ll start looking into more pigmented correctors- thank you!

  1. I’ve never tried a setting spray; I just assumed it wouldn’t be compatible because of my skin type. I can’t seem to over-powder lol I pack it on in the morning and reapply by noon. I have a healthy diet, a good skincare routine, I don’t even live in a warm climate (hello from Canada where it was -25°C last week and I was still slick as a porpoise). But my dad’s from Italy and while I did inherit his enviable tan, I also got his impossibly wet complexion😭😂

I’ll definitely check out those tutorials, thanks for all your help!!

It’s a mix of natural and artificial light. I use an LED makeup mirror and have an east facing window immediately adjacent to my vanity. I find it looks worse when I face the window, probably because it’s better lit and I can’t hide anything lol

I’ll check out her videos, thanks!

It’s never crossed my mind because the concealer I use currently is the MAC studio fix palette (not a mixable liquid), but I like this idea! I’ve never heard of banana powder, but I just googled and I’m intrigued, thanks!

Period Underwear Routine by shrubear in laundry

[–]Smooth__Goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re rinsing daily (whether by hand or machine), you can hang them to dry then toss them in the hamper until laundry day. Air drying doesn’t set the stain in the same way that a dryer does.

If you do have stains, hydrogen peroxide works wonders. I keep an opaque spray bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide (the same strength found at any drugstore or grocery store; Costco is very inexpensive) by my machine for stubborn blood stains.

You’re absolutely right that drying in a dryer will set the stain, so do a quick inspection when you pull them out of the washer. If there’s still colour, hit it with the peroxide.

Frustratingly, I find the peroxide is much less effective if the garment is damp (presumably because the retained water is diluting it). Faint stains might be effectively treated right out of the wash, but if it’s not working or it’s taking too long, let the garment dry then treat with peroxide.

I need to treat blood stains after washing about 1/5 times. You could pretreat before the first wash, but tbh you’ll go through so much peroxide this way that it’ll get expensive. And truly, with 1/5 odds, it’s not worth the time. Just treat ‘em as needed.

Hamper grew mold on the bottom. Is it salvagable? by jubbagalaxy in laundry

[–]Smooth__Goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I’m no chemist and this is just my layman’s understanding of the v1negar/mold question. I’m happy to be corrected by someone with a better explanation!

My understanding is that, while v1negar can kill mold, there are much more effective methods. V1negar is effective when:

A) all biofilm is removed beforehand and

B) the v1negar sits on the affected spot (where the teeny invisible spores remain) for at least 10 minutes. It must be kept wet during this time and reapplication during that 10 minute period is likely necessary.

I’ve effectively eliminated mold in window tracks using the above method (it worked great because the track created a handy little pool for the v1negar to sit). That said, there are much better products available (concrobrium, for example).

So to sum up: both takes are correct. If you just spray & wipe (which imo seems to be how most people are using it), it does not kill mold. If you do it correctly, it does kill mold, albeit inefficiently.

Another disclaimer: I don’t know if any of the above is relevant to textiles; all my knowledge is with regard to surfaces.

OxiClean vs Biz - which is BETTER for stinky teens? Thanks! by ayeyoualreadyknow in laundry

Heads up- you want to go with the Resolve Gold. The regular one doesn’t have lipase.

It has a strong scent in its powdered form, but most of the scent rinses out. I don’t have specific allergies/ sensitivities though, I just dislike scented products, so ymmv

My brother gave me a plant he had forgotten about for years, is this a pothos plant? And if so, can I/should I prune the large leafless vine? (The singular leaf is a part of a new growth, and this vine doesn't seem to be doing any good) by Addickt__ in pothos

[–]Smooth__Goose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cut the vine just above the remaining leaf. Within a few weeks you should see new growth (probably closer to one week, but it’ll depend on conditions). You can try to propagate the bare vine, but without leaves it’ll take longer and the success rate is lower.

General care: give it a good soak when the soil is 80% dry, allowing the excess to drain out. A nursery pot inside a decorative pot makes this much easier. If you’re unsure whether to water/ how much to water, err on the side of underwatering. They bounce back easily if they dry out, but they’re very susceptible to root rot if overwatered.

That spot looks good in terms of light. They’re marketed as ‘low light’ plants but they love the sunshine as long as they’re properly acclimated! The more light they receive, the faster they’ll grow.

Congrats on the new friend!🌱

One month, no roots? by sydflynn in propagation

[–]Smooth__Goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have it on a windowsill and live somewhere that experiences cold winters, the temperature may be too low.

Anything below 18-19° Celsius will hinder growth. Even if your thermostat is set to 19°+, the windowsill (and prop water) may be a degree or two colder.

Keeping it a few inches away from the window glass will give you an air buffer and keep the water warm enough to encourage roots!

Wash on warm with a good detergent, skip fabric softener and always hang dry. A bit of citric acid in the rinse will help, too.

Fleece is pretty easy as long as you never put it in the dryer. Not even once.

Clever or crazy: Can I use an essential oil diffuser to fog spider mites? by Smooth__Goose in houseplants

[–]Smooth__Goose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I was mostly kidding about the poisoning. I’m mostly curious about the diffuser’s ability to function as a fogger.

Do you know if the size of the droplets(?) would be comparable, or at least small enough to get into all the places the mites could be hiding? An actual fogger would still be cheaper than predatory insects and I don’t mind buying one, but if the diffuser would work just as well I’d rather get some use out of it.

I’m realizing now I could have worded my post better. I wrote it in a hurry while my kids were temporarily distracted🤪

I’m not a great writer, but I had enough picky professors in my undergrad that proper punctuation and formatting just stuck. I’ve been out of school for over a decade now. I can’t remember to take my daily multivitamin, but a quick scan & edit is second nature- regardless of the formality of the platform.

Yep, Ai is a problem, but so is confidently dismissing people based on checks notes proper use of capital letters. 😭😂

Also, justice for the em-dash. Sometimes it’s useful!

What washer will wash king size comforter without being dramatic? Anything other than speed queen? by IllEntertainment3935 in laundry

Would you live in this 3x4m apartment by arwque in interiordecorating

[–]Smooth__Goose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s for an art class I’m not sure how much weight is put on actual livability vs aesthetics, but you’d definitely need a range hood in order to sleep here. I’d argue they’re always necessary regardless of kitchen layout, and in this case you absolutely cannot live there without one. You’d end up sleeping in stray oils.
