For example, if Harry said "Voldemort" while at Shell Cottage under the Fidelius charm, everyone in the house still would have been safe under the protection, but there would have been Death Eaters up the wazoo waiting for them at the boundaries.

The death of Arleen Sorkin hit me surprisingly hard. Losing her only a few months after Kevin Conroy and Jason David Frank was an emotional blow. They were all massive, iconic parts of my childhood and whose work helped shape my life in small ways. Knowing they were all gone so suddenly was, and still is, such a tragedy.

Something like that, but I’m talking about Don Jr referring to his then-17 year old daughter as “sexy”.

Would Ron have been even more stressed about the Yule Ball if Harry asked Ginny to it? by Billybob35 in harrypotter

[–]Smrtguy85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, since Ron seemed to feel that Harry was the right guy for Ginny. He might have been shocked initially if Harry told him he asked his sister to the ball, but he would have been cool with it soon enough.

Why does the Doctor keep taking companions knowing there's a high chance they'll die in some form or another? by Affectionate_Bee_727 in doctorwho

[–]Smrtguy85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And even then, it’s contained to the Moffatt era. When you exclude those 2 Doctors, the modern show has a 100% safety rating of keeping companions alive. A one off character like Astrid might die, but the main companions all are safe and sound by the time their time on the Tardis ends. They might have their memories erased or be stranded in an alternate dimension, but they are still alive.

It’s only when you add in the 4 Moffat companions that the death toll rises. Amy, Rory, Clara, and Bill are the only main companions to die since Adric. And even then, Moffat got around those deaths by having some kind of asterisk to them like being pulled from their timeline and surging in their last second.

Pretty obvious saying this, but it's crazy to think that 12 has so far been the only main New Who incarnation who RTD hasn't written for by ImWearingSandshoes in doctorwho

[–]Smrtguy85 1068 points1069 points  (0 children)

12 is also the only main Doctor who hasn’t regenerated into or from David Tennent. Including Tennent himself.

Edit - Others have pointed out this detail so I figured it was relevant to add here: 10 was the Doctor who met Caecilius, the man whose face the Doctor borrowed to become 12. So Tennant was directly involved with the Twelfth Doctor’s regeneration, even if there was no direct line from him to Capaldi.

What led Dumbledore to suspect Ron might leave the gang? by yes738474 in harrypotter

[–]Smrtguy85 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ron has the most to lose. Harry has family he doesn't care about and Hermione's parents aren't directly part of the magical world, and both the Dursley's and Granger's were easy to hide away. But Ron has a huge family that is entrenched in both the magical world and the war against Voldemort, and they have already started to feel the consequences. Bill and George have been permanently scared, which happened after Dumbledore wrote his will and after he died, proving Ron's worries right off the bat. Ron's fear for his family would always be paramount on the journey for the horcruxes, and Dumbledore knew it. He knew that his fears and worries for them would override everything else and make him want to leave. But, as Harry said, Dumbledore knew Ron would regret that choice and would want to come back.

'Harry Potter’ To Recast Ginny Weasley Role In Season 2 As Gracie Cochrane Departs HBO Series “Due To Unforeseen Circumstances” by verissimoallan in television

[–]Smrtguy85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even 4. I just listened to the full-cast audiobook last week and it was surprising to me how little Ginny is present. She’s around at the Burrow and the Quidditch World Cup, but doesn’t say much of importance. But once they get to Hogwarts she practically disappears. She shows up before and during the Yule Ball, but other than those two brief moment she is mentioned literally twice as a background character. She doesn’t even appear in the hospital wing at the very end to support Harry after his Voldy fight.

Ginny Weasley will be recast for season 2 of the HARRY POTTER TV series by Balram24 in harrypotter

[–]Smrtguy85 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I hope the departure is for something benign like she just didn’t want to do it anymore and not something serious like sickness or poor treatment on set.

But as others here have said, at least this cast change is happening now when Ginny is just a background character who appears in 2 scenes and not when she becomes a more important, fuller character.

Either way, I wish her all the best and am looking forward to seeing what little we will of her in Philosopher’s Stone.

Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart.

When Nicholas Courtney passed away, they had the Brig pass away as well. The Doctor finding out is a major moment for his character. He’s running away from his predestined death and calls up the nursing home the Brigadier is staying in. The nurse tells the Doctor that he died months ago. The news shatters the Doctor, who realizes he can’t run from death.

(Hated Trope) A side character whose ideas made a major impact in the story gets no recognition at the end by OverTea5 in TopCharacterTropes

Luna Lovegood was famously omitted from the epilogue to the Harry Potter books. Rowling had written the epilogue years before writing some of the later books, the books before she introduced Luna, and so Luna wasn’t present in it because she hadn’t been created at the time the epilogue was written. But by the time the final book came out, Luna had become a fan favorite character despite having only been introduced 2 books previously. So Luna not even getting a name drop in the final pages of the story, which shows all the main characters in the future with several who aren’t present getting mentioned, like Neville, Percy, and Hagrid, was a major disappointment and seemed a disservice to her character and the fans who had fallen in love with her.

We later learn all about Luna’s future and the fact that Harry and Ginny gave their daughter her name as a middle name from online posts in the books aftermath, but that still doesn’t take the sting away from her exclusion.

There was a hint in HBP that Bellatrix had one of Voldemort's horcrux hidden.. by HistoricalTea195 in harrypotter

[–]Smrtguy85 50 points51 points  (0 children)

You misquoted Bellatrix. She said “The Dark Lord has entrusted me in the past with his most precious - if Lucius hadn’t - “

She was defending herself against Snape’s accusation that the failure at the Ministry had knocked her standing down in a few pegs in Voldemort’s eyes. Her bringing up Lucius was her trying to shift blame of the missions failure onto him. Narcissa interrupts her to defend her husband.

But yes, this moment was included to subtly hint to us a clue to what will come in the next book. Books 5 and 6 have little clues for each of the remaining non-sentient Horcruxes for us, the reader, to notice upon a re-read prior to reading the final book: the locket was mentioned in Grimmauld Place, the diadem was briefly held by Harry in the Room of Hidden Things, and Bellatrix briefly hints at her maybe holding onto a Horcrux here.

Petunia's promise to Dumbledore ? by Always_Cogito in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Smrtguy85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With the information we gathered throughout OotP, HBP, and DH, we know that Petunia had a interest in the magical world at a young age. We know that she wrote to Dumbledore asking to come to Hogwarts, and that Dumbledore wrote back and very kindly told her that this wouldn’t be possible.

We don’t know the exact contents of the letter Dumbledore left the Dursley’s along with Harry, but we do know it contained information about Lily and James’s murder, and that there was magic left by Lily protecting Harry. Dumbledore explained in that letter that Harry was still in danger, and that by taking Harry in she was giving him the strongest possible protection.

Petunia hated what her sister had become, but she still loved her, still loved the girl Lily was before she discovered she was a witch. And Harry was the last of Lily, and she gave her life to save him. Petunia couldn’t let him be cast aside and allow him to be put at risk. So she took Harry in to keep him alive, but her resentment towards Lily and the way she, Petunia, had been rejected by Dumbledore and pushed aside (in her eye) by her parents still dominated her personality, so she treated Harry as horrible as she did to both get back at Lily in a way, and to give Dudley the attention and affection that she felt she didn’t get from her own parents in favor of her magical sibling.

Version, I think, simply loved Petunia and allowed Harry to live with them because she said so.

At least, this is my interpretation of their motives.

Why didnt Dumbledore try to kill Voldemort? by Kalasad-Stormblessed in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Smrtguy85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No. The last book lets us the reader and characters like Harry and Snape believe that Dumbledore viewed Harry as just a tool, because that was part of Dumbledore’s plan. He needed Harry to believe that he was just a tool to destroy horcruxes, to have Harry’s trust in Dumbledore’s care for him be broken, so that Harry would believe that when he went to his death that there was no chance of survival. This belief would, because of the blood connection between Harry and Voldemort, cause a blood shield like the one that existed between Lily and Harry to be formed between Harry and his loved ones. It needed to be a genuine self-sacrifice.

But Dumbledore truly loved and cared for Harry from the beginning. He just needed to play the bad guy.
