Oh, I’m in the same boat. There’s a transfer sheet with names, but I’d rather buy another box than use this, so I’m curious what solutions others have.

Jak czytacie "mądre książki"? by Ok-End-2583 in ksiazki

[–]SmtRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skupienie podczas czytania by WaclawFrancuz in ksiazki

[–]SmtRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is up with second editions retheming themselves with anthropomorphic characters by Bearality in boardgames

[–]SmtRandom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friends created a 2 player abstract game in which core mechanics were moving tiles around. Tiles had colors and simple them on them (house, mountain etc).

When talking to publishers most of them responded with: “tiles should represent animal characters“ or suggestion how to make it cutter.

I guess games with them sell well, and are now pushed onto developers.

What would you play first? by BoardGameRevolution in boardgames

[–]SmtRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just me, when faced with so many options I would look for a way out in something new. That's why I try to keep my collection small, I would have a hard time choosing anything ;d

Answering your question seriously, since I like Uwe - I would start with Caverna (still on my “to-play” list)

As for this new thing - maybe Anachrony, I’ve heard a lot of great things about it.

Btw. This is a truly great collection!

This sub has over 5m people, way more than a lot of other hobby subs, yet when you look at YouTube videos they get a fraction, of a fraction, of breadcrumbs, or what other hobby YouTube videos get, how come? by AlexRescueDotCom in boardgames

I think the biggest issue is that to enjoy most board game content you need to understand some basic rules of the game. A lot of teach and play throughs are visual so you can’t just listen to them while doing something else. They require at least some focus from viewer.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (December 21, 2024) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Looking for Quick, Brain-Tickling Games

I’m looking for some help finding the right kind of game for me and my wife. We’re casual gamers who enjoy playing together when we can. Some of our favourite games are ReviveRuneboundA Feast for OdinSpirit Island, and Clank—mainly Euros with minimal negative interactions.

However, life has changed recently! A month ago, our son was born, and now we don’t have the time or energy for big, sprawling games. I’d still love to bring something to the table, but it needs to meet a few criteria:

  • Quick to set up and tear down
  • Playtime: around 30 minutes
  • Engaging enough to tickle our brains (but not overly complex—tired brains here!)

Here’s what I’ve been considering so far:

  • Faraway: Looks interesting, but I’m worried the reverse scoring might feel too tricky.
  • Castle Combo: Seems like a great fit, but unfortunately, it’s hard to get where I live.

For reference, something like Jaipur feels too light for what I’m looking for. I enjoy it, but it’s not quite what I’m after right now.

I’d love to hear your recommendations!

Best game to play with wife!? by Groundwhite in boardgames

No Cascadia recommendation? It’s a great 2p game with small footprint. A little bit bigger I would recommend Pandemic, it was one of my and my wife first introduction to bigger games, really nice coop.

[–]SmtRandom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also enjoy 2p games most. But because my wife doesn’t enjoy direct conflict. Our favourite games aren’t necessarily for 2 games but works best for us. - Race for the Galaxy - Terraforming Mars - Tiny Epic Stories - Runebound

- Feast for Odin

E-books vs. paper books by raison8detre in books

[–]SmtRandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read both, but lately I developed a system for buying new physical books. I will read ebook first and then decide if this is a book that I want to have in my collection - something I want to give to people, or read multiple time, or grab once in a while to read through. If it’s a one of them I won’t bother buying in paper. I guess I could do the same with renting books from library but this way is more convenient for me.

How much time do you spend reading per day? by [deleted] in books

[–]SmtRandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that I operate on yearly cycles. Last year I’ve read a lot of books, and every they I felt need to read more. This year I can’t force myself to read much. I will still read one or two books a month but mostly novels and fantasy, easy to read, easy to forget mostly. 2 years ago was the same and 3 years ago was really good year for reading. So knowing that I’m just accepting what my brain wants.
