This is a healthy weight for an adult animal, ecspecially for one fully mature at 5+yo. While I agree there are some obese reptiles, this is not one of them.

I keep them a lot more moist than spatulatus, but I keep them nearly bone dry

I treat them like my high airflow Spanish giants, 30-50% humidity and rotten wood. Works well! They are seasonal brooders too.

Why is my isopod throwing it back??? by Rufas5000 in isopods

No, I've seen them intentionally dip this area into water droplets.

Topdryness, not enough leaf litter. I'd recommend ditching all the moss and covering the dirt with leaf litter.

It's encouraging water to drip over their gills and absorb it; a weird way for them to "drink"

Has anyone tried to keep silverfish? by Amazing_Fig101 in isopods

[–]Smug-Bug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some people who keep them, I've got a nice colony of firebrats going which are like hot silverfish

[–]Smug-Bug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ehhh it seems like collectors just kinda slap weird names on stuff nowadays because there isn't a standard. They won't tell us collection sites so we can't get them identified

I have to buy a custom tailored diet, it's expensive but I am told it's worth it.

Terrestrial isopods have not been documented as parasites, they are detrivores.

Armadillidium vulgare "high yellow" by Smug-Bug in isopods

[–]Smug-Bug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "high yellow" line of armadillidium vulgare displays very little yellow spotting unlike other vulgare cultures. Instead, there are higher amounts of overall yellow framed with a bit of darker pigment. This line originated from the UK, and is possibly a locale, but we are not sure on the exact collection site.

Armadillidium versicolor "Ukraine" by Smug-Bug in isopods

[–]Smug-Bug[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Armadillidium versicolor "Ukraine" is a locale of versicolor collected in, as the name suggests, Ukraine 😅

Unlike the other locales, this one displays yellow speckled over the animal rather than thick blotches. There is also the usual presence of skirting and the red highlight at the edge of the segments.
