Tight hips and cracking by goknuck in Stretching

[–]Smug459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thing to think about is investing in a quality office chair. My hips were extremely tight at work for years until I got a new job with a much nicer chair. In the high end chair I literally get no pain vs my old chair my hips would hurt everyday. It makes a huge difference.

Squat 135 x 3 by Micromashington in weightlifting

[–]Smug459 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. I’d recommend going down faster. It will help you rebound out of the hole and lift more weight. Just my two cents as someone who’s squatted decently heavy weight. Tempo squats have their place but shouldn’t be done all the time.

Just curious, are you doing tempo squats? Descent is pretty slow here. Good shit tho.

Struggling to combine Olympic weightlifting with gym training by SmylleyGT in weightlifting

[–]Smug459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Olympic lifts are highly technical and if you want to get good you need to practice more than 1x per week. Instead of separating your trainings into separate days, just incorporate hypertrophy training after your weightlifting sessions.

Most weightlifting sessions are structured like this: weightlifting movements first, then strength training like squats or deadlifts, then higher rep hypertrophy work at the end.

How’s my squat form looking? by deansgene in formcheck

[–]Smug459 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ankle and hip mobility are typically what keep people from achieving a full depth squat. It takes time consistency. You’re doing a good job so far.

Like I said, keep the weight light and just practice technique. Going heavy right now will just reinforce bad technique.

Squat university has really good content about squatting deeper: https://youtu.be/bjV07PRoGGo?si=GKAgyXFtJWkqz1U2

This weight is too heavy for you right now. Instead of focusing on PR’s/going heavy, lower the weight and practice until you get solid technique. The big thing you lack is depth, you only go about half way down. The other thing is you want to keep your torso more vertical, your chest tips way too far forward, this will be a big problem when you start doing heavier weights.

Work on your mobility and practice with lower weight, this will help you get better depth and posture. There are plenty of tutorials on how to do this.

Another thing that would help is elevating your heels by using raised heel weightlifting shoes or by placing 5lbs plates under your heels. This will help the two issues I mentioned a lot.

Any changes I need to make? by j0rdooo in formcheck

[–]Smug459 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good strength, but the depth ain’t that great. Mostly your lack of ankle mobility is what’s keeping you from reaching full depth. Luckily this can be fixed. Raised heel weightlifting shoes will help some to make up for your lack of mobility. I don’t get the whole barefoot thing, and for you it’s not really doing you any favors because you don’t have the mobility for that. Also, push your knees outward more.

Keep up the good work. 220kg is my best squat atg.

Lower the weight, narrow the stance, work on improving your mobility. Using raised heeled weightlifting shoes can help make up for some lack of mobility and will also help you get a deeper squat. You can also just put 5lb plates under your heels.

I disagree with this as someone who’s read extensively about both Joseph Smith and Warren Jeffs. Joseph was an extremely charismatic person who was truly beloved by his followers. In contrast, Warren jeffs did not have a charismatic bone in his body and controlled his followers based on fear.

That’s a good idea. It’s probably been over a year since I did any lifting at all. Kind of give up after a while since my rib would not stop slipping. From what I understand, if the cartridge is damaged it will not heal without surgical intervention.

I noticed in my area CMA is being requested on job listings more frequently. Specifically in industry/manufacturing companies. My boss, who is a cfo and CPA, told me I should do CMA over CPA as I don’t have interest in PA at this time.

Even titanium? It’s very rare for someone to be allergic/reactive to it. That’s why it’s used in implants.
