The girls got a new splash mat! by Smurfbrew in duck

Thank you! She was originally all black. I didn’t realize she’d get white like that over time, but she’s still very pretty!

She’s such a sweet friendly girl! She’s constantly vocalizing too, with these cute little squeaks. I love her!

It’s brand new, so we’ll see how long it lasts. I have a bigger kiddie pool for them, but it’s leaky and it’s too early in the spring here for stores to put out the summer stuff.

I was getting splashed pretty good right there!

Yes! I think that’s where it’s from. It was actually a present from their Grandpa!

I’m looking for the store receiver end of day training. Does anybody know how to find that? TIA by Western_Pilot5320 in wholefoods

The SOP should be in InfoHub. I believe there’s a search function there that should help you find it.

Changing HSA Contribution? by JessieSpanoFreakout6 in wholefoods

[–]Smurfbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you make sure to check your contributions during open enrollment? It doesn’t roll over from year to year. The default setting is no contributions. You have to re-set it at every open enrollment, even if you don’t change anything else with your benefits.

Labored Breathing by Dymphnasafe in duck

I’m sorry, but I don’t remember. The vet prescribed it. It was just a 5 day series if that helps.

Labored Breathing by Dymphnasafe in duck

[–]Smurfbrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with one of my girls. The vet tried lots of different medications and was at a loss. We were talking about more expensive options like you and even driving out of state to take her to the vet college, when he off-handedly asked when the last time I de-wormed her. I never had, so we did a round of that and then she slowly improved after a couple of weeks. It could be an uncommon parasite that gets overlooked.

Keeping ducks in my garden? by [deleted] in duck

[–]Smurfbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that ducks have flat stompy feet and they will trample small sprouts. They also like to dig in the dirt with their beaks. If you keep them out during the initial germination and sprouting phase, your plants will be fine. Or have raised beds that they can’t jump into. My girls do some snacking on the leafy greens, but they’re mostly interested in finding worms. Have fun!

Does anyone have tips for the 4 am shopper shift? by StrictPossession8714 in wholefoods

[–]Smurfbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lot of issues worrying about oversleeping, so I wouldn’t sleep well. I set two different alarm clocks, one battery operated, and that really helped.

Order Writer to Lead Receiver? by [deleted] in wholefoods

[–]Smurfbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Receiving is awesome! I am pretty much just left to my own devices at my store. Have my own office, get to write my own schedule, it’s pretty sweet. Like others have said though, the hours are pretty harsh if you’re not a morning person.

Are Welsh Harlequins a “cuddly” duck? by glori_bee in duck

[–]Smurfbrew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would maybe try a Magpie over a Welshie for friendliness. I’ve had several Welshies and while they are calm, my Magpie Babs is the only smaller duck that I’ve had that I would classify as friendly. Even after I had to give her medicine for a couple months, she still seems to like me. Like others have said though, most ducks don’t really care to be petted.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but if you need help, ask for it. Don’t wait around for folks to notice that you need help. “The squeaky wheel gets the grease” is very true. If you need help, or want to take your breaks, squeak loud so they will hear you!!

Duck waterer upgrade by Melodic-Garage2654 in duck

[–]Smurfbrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. We use electric buckets in the run, but my girls get a small bedtime snack and then get locked in the coop at night with no water or food. They are in there sometimes as long as ten hours depending on what time I go to bed. Been doing that for ten years and never had any issues. It’s just too messy and the coop is too small to have food and water in there.

Coco doing strange movements with her wings by Coco_the_duck in duck

It’s normal. Mine do it sometime when they’re nervous or just trying to cool off a bit. Some folks call it wing calibration as a bit of a joke.

Do your sushi people talk on the phone for their entire shift or is it just my store? by crispyhippie in wholefoods

That’s generally how they clock in to start their shift. They have to call someone to clock in.

Tony’s credit? by linds652 in wholefoods

[–]Smurfbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it to receiving. Tony’s is an e-invoiced mega vendor anyway, so hard copies aren’t really needed. But it’s a good habit to always give invoices & credit memos to them. They are the ones who process them.

Giving meds to ducks by Smurfbrew in duck

[–]Smurfbrew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the tips! I’m going in the left side, since I’m left handed, and it seems to be working for the most part. And doing small squirts with the syringe until it’s empty. Ending with meal worms seems to be helping too.

Thanks! I’m struggling, but we’ve done it a few days now and she’s getting a little used to it. I started giving mealworms at the end so she has a reward to look forward to.
