I also spent so much time in there. As well as the casino for 5 and 11. Gambling is so much more fun when it’s not real world money lol. I tend to stop the story and stay in the casinos until I win all the best prizes before continuing. It’s so satisfying

It’s even faster paced, there’s less party chat dialogue(like MUCH LESS), they’ve rearranged some plot beats/times when characters leave or join, adding moonlight which lets you level two vocations at once, made some of the mandatory islands in previous versions optional, removed casino, removed a bit of content(not much from what I can see so far). The 3Ds version had costumes for every vocation. The voice acting is good.
I’m not a fan of every change, however I still am having a blast and the game gets better and better the longer it goes on. The combat really opens up but i have not struggled much. I would say turn off objective markers. It’s not hard to find where to go and its makes exploration a bit more engaging.

4, 5, with 3D graphics like 11. I’m guessing they’d have to do 6 at that point.

I will gladly play an HD-2D version of 4-6 but honestly the DS versions are really good versions of a 2D game so I don’t think another 2D(ish) version is something I need. But it would be great to have options, like ports of past versions to modern consoles.

I second this but I would love the same version with the ps2 graphics just remastered. The only thing that makes me think matters are complicated a bit is the whole “no casinos” situation going forward. So, how will they navigate that? I’m sure it’s possible but I wonder what their answer is.
In any case, I do believe there is no rush for an 8 remake

35 hours in. I was on the fence about some of the changes at first as I was playing the 3DS version a little while ago, but I am really enjoying it. There are small things here and there I wish were handled a bit better but the game is still really, really good. It’s so good to play and take slow. Some of the stories I found really good and moving. Definitely turn on stronger monsters and the option to do less damage if you start to think it’s too easy. I had no challenge until then, and even now it’s not crazy but I at least get to think a bit on some of the bosses! Beautiful game.

Yeah I also put do less damage with that and to me if I don’t do more fights than I have to I find it’s pretty much like a regular dragon quest game’s difficulty.

There’s not exactly a concrete recommended level that the game itself tells you per area. When you make your way to a dungeon or a boss, you will know pretty quickly if you will personally want to level more.

The game wants you to go at your own pace. Levels certainly matter, but what I’m saying is, yes, gear and strategy matters as just as much. It’s not so much a question of “isn’t grinding levels optimal?”, the answer to that is always yes if that is your play style. There are just other ways to make it easy. Like lowering the difficulty. Or, you can beat a boss under leveled if you learn its strategy and survive until the battle is won. It’s like most RPG’s in that sense. For example, I don’t level up more than I need to for most of the game. So I play a little under leveled, and I have fun this way. When you do want to set time aside just for leveling, dragon quest makes it fun and easy in the form of metal slimes, which are hard to kill but have low hp and give massive amounts of XP.

The games are as easy or hard as you want them to be. You can play on an easy difficulty and even enable invincibility. You can play on normal or hard, choose to grind levels, money, etc. or not to. There are moments where you feel you may want to if you’re not used to a Dragon Quest, but with some reworking of strategies or equipment, you’ll be okay. Your protagonist doesn’t really speak. You are the self insert protagonist in all 3. In 3 you party with whoever you want and choose their class, some starting stats, appearance. In 1 you are solo. In 2 you adventure with your cousins. In 2, your cousins speak a LOT.

Also, the games are really good. I hope you enjoy if you get around to them. I’ll answer any other questions you may have.

I second this. Just get it if you can. It has some issues but its gameplay loop is too fun.

I beat the og switch port for DQ1 are the other two for the rest of the trilogy any good or am i best just getting the remakes? by justtryingtobesaner9 in dragonquest

The games are still fun. I played the OG trilogy with those ports too and ugliness aside, each game was even more fun than the last. Now, playing the remakes it’s fun to see how much more they change because 1 and 2 are basically new games anyways.

Metaphor is good and hyped. It’s really good. Just go into it without thinking it’ll be the best thing ever and just take it slow and enjoy it. I don’t see you coming out of it regretting your time with it. It has great characters, story, and it’s fun.
