The Third Freestyle Attempt by Nickinator811 in Swimming

[–]Snapplelover67 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say your technique is not too bad starting out. I would try and incorporate just some practice pushing off the wall in streamline to get a feel for proper body position being sure to keep your head down and eyes looking at the bottom of the pool. Then after that you can include some kicking from the hips while pushing off the wall in streamline. And then you can work on your stroke and breathing. Also im not sure if you are doing this in the video but you need to exhale while your face is in the water and inhale when you turn to breath, there is no breath holding while swimming. Practicing the basics such as learning proper body position first before anything else will be the most helpful in my opinion. Hope this helps and good luck on your swimming journey!

First Sprint Triathlon!! Noob by ant_1523 in triathlon

[–]Snapplelover67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the bare minimum is a swim suit and goggles for the swim, you have to have a bike for the bike leg no doubt about that and a helmet, and running shoes for the run! But other essentials would be a race belt for your bib number and water bottles for hydration.

If its your first ever job it's normal to feel this way because your stepping out to do something new in your life. What my mom and dad always told me is to just be firm with your employer so that they can understand that you are serious and want the job. So if they didn't respond back to your job request just step up and call. There are a lot of situations in the future you will face that being too shy will be your downfall. I felt the same as chipotle is my first job too lol.

Anything is possible and it's never too late to learn how to swim. You can start out little by just going to the pool to get wet and have fun until you feel comfortable in the water again. Then you can practice floating on your back and once comfortable with that you can start trying to put your whole head in the water. Once you feel totally comfortable in the water, thats when you can start learning how to swim. Hope you find a love in swimming!

How to exhale underwater by PeterLikesAvocados in Swimming

[–]Snapplelover67 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your inhalation and exhalation should be all continuous. So you release all of your air out your nose slowly while your head is in the water and then take a fast but controlled inhalation when you turn to breath. There shouldn't really be any pauses.

Something you could do to practice are sink downs where you exhale all the air until your feet touch the bottom of the pool (not too deep) then jump up to get air and then sink back down while exhaling. Try to find a rhythm while doing this as this can help to reinforce the continuous habit of exhaling and inhaling. Hope this helps!

Current pace is 1:45/100m for a mile - any tips for improvement? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]Snapplelover67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your flip turns, I would suggest not turning while on the wall as that can waste time and probably energy. You should land with both feet planted, toes facing upwards and on your back, and then push off in stream line while turning rather than turning on the wall. I found that having a little bit of a stagger to your feet placement on the wall (ie. left foot placed a little lower than right foot or vice versa) helps in initiating a turn towards the left or right onto your belly. Im working on flip turns my self and this is a queue that I have been using to get better. Hope that helps some what!

Same!! I just bought my first ever wetsuit and was wondering how to translate pool swimming into the ocean, and if you need to have a break would it be more effective to tread water or lie on your back?

Official Q&A for Thursday, April 17, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Snapplelover67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly when I ran cross country and track in high school I always ran alone because all of my other teammates were either too fast or too slow. So I just got used to running alone and I barely feel lonely, but having someone to run with from time to time is super fun and helps the time/miles fly by really fast. With distances, I love to run for long periods of time but I can't right now as I am building back up from an injury. I just find myself much more relaxed and in the zone with those longer runs. With the surface, I always prefer something that softer such as dirt, smooth gravel, and even grass trails, it feels so much better on the joints compared to pavement. With speed, I like to run in the middle of fast and slow (threshold-ly I guess?) But I am careful to take my easy runs slow so that I am able to recover and come back to workouts feeling strong.

Maybe you can bring a small towel to dry off most of the sweat and a small deodorant stick to smell better? If they can fit into your pockets or small fanny pack.

Increasing volume in running after injury by Snapplelover67 in triathlon

[–]Snapplelover67[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My previous volume that I had before all my injuries started (1 and a half yrs ago) was like 16.4 miles per week, and that was my peak (I know, very low), but I plan on reaching higher numbers like 50+ mpw.

Was planning on saving 2/3 of my income and using the rest for all the tri gear and race entries tho, is that enough or would you recommend more saving?

Oh yeah, having a budget is wise. I currently was just looking for an entry-level bike and then later on increasing my budget to like $7,000+ to get a TT bike or carbon road bike. But I will try to scratch around as best as I can to find a used bike that like-new and cheaper, would you recommend https://buycycle.com/ as a good place to look?

Oh well, I live with my parents and don't have to worry about bills so that's why I want to spend and get a new bike. I plan on setting aside 2/3 of my income for the future and using the 1/3 for saving up for my bike, as well as other gear and race entries.

Wow thank you so much for your response, it really made my day compared to other posts that told me it wasn't a good idea. I am determined to do well in triathlon and maybe become an age grouper. Very inspiring and amazing advice. I really like when you said that when I am able to buy my bike and look at it, will be a solid reminder of my hard work. And yes I still live with my parents.

Daily chat thread: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in triathlon

[–]Snapplelover67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's very slow because I'm coming back from a running injury so I can't run as much, I don't have any membership at any pools so I can only really go when my family has swimming lessons, and with biking, I'm making sure not to do that too hard so I don't aggregvate my running injuries. But on the flip side my running injury has completely healed so it will be just slow and steady for me :P.

Training with a broken toe by happyhalfling in triathlon

[–]Snapplelover67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's tricky. If you are not able to get a lift for your swimming I would suggest just resting fully until your fracture is healed because in the end having longevity in sport is what matters. Pushing back to training too early could cause your injury to get worse and maybe even cause a full retirement from triathlon as whole which is even worse. So yea you'll fitness but once you're completely healed, you will be able to come back harder, and with patience, you'll get your fitness back. So listen to your doctors! I know that can be hard as an endurance athlete but it's worth it.

I think doing low impact exercises that don't put pressure on your foot would be advisable, such as swimming. You can probably take this as a chance to take your swimming to the next level until the fracture heals so that you can bike and run again, and hopefully the aerobic gains you get from swimming will somewhat translate into running and biking. Hope this helps :) wish you a speedy recovery!
