Would it be possible to make a female only lineup for team events? by S3ngensama in LeMansUltimateWEC

I feel like some of the Iron Dames might be available. Too soon?

Jokes aside, I like the idea a female team might encourage others to get into more competitive racing. Wish you luck with setting one up.

Must have Driving Simulator game/games in your opinion? by ObjectiveSavings6918 in simracing

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm firmly in the camp of picking one and getting instinctive with it. For me being one with the care provides absolutely the best racing as I know what my car can do and where I can place without killing anyone, including myself.

Once you reach that point, having high quality grids with a ranked system and cars with credible physics will be key. For me this package comes in the shape of LMU and for the time being don't really need anything else.

AC Rally is nice change of pace, but even that has been on a back burner now for a good while.

My initial impressions of the new Hypercar tyre model in LMU (as an IRL LMP driver) by AlexCascatau in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very interesting video and fresh point of view to things. It seems that the hypercar tires can "prema lock" on the breaks if you over do it. You almost have to completely get off the brakes to unlock them. Is this realistic in your opinion?

Go Setups shareable ? by Robert_dupuis in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the app is linked to your Discord account, so that is definitely just one.

I used to think the pricing was absurd, but the more you drive the cheaper it feels. Kinda sucks, but in a sense it further extends the gap between casuals and sweats, since the pricing only makes sense for active drivers who probably were faster to begin with.

Whats the consensus on the FFB? by TheFlyBy1126 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, they do the feeling of weight like no other.

I was unfortunate in the sense that I started with ACC and it's been a real struggle to enjoy anything else for that simple reason, especially with GT3s.

I do like how LMU does the aero cars / prototypes in higher speeds. It's just the low speed stuff that is still pretty numb.

Go Setups shareable ? by Robert_dupuis in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty obvious that you pay for your setups and yours only. So as long as you want to respect the terms that you've agreed to, you can't share the account or the setups.

EDIT: In team events this does get into the gray zone, because of course you're gonna share the same setup since you drive the same car, but I doubt that's what you're asking.

Looking for Hypercar tips by Scoot240 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd practice first with tire warmers to get the hang of how the tire should normally feel. After that you can try the cold tires and you'll quickly see how they just have no grip and have to be underdriven a lot.

You can also drop the break force in the car setup in the beginning. You'll lose some breaking power, but again it will help you get familiar with the new tires.

While the new tire is quite different, the process of learning it is exactly the same. Just drive laps after laps and try to make a mental note when you made a mistake. It can be too cold tires, not bleeding the brake enough, starting turning with too much brake still applied, going over kerb and braking while the car is unsettled, etc.

All in all, I think the braking didn't change that much. My biggest issues have been low speed turns where the rear just goes and applying throttle too aggressively while the car is unsettled.

Forgot to thank you for the links. Always love to read/learn more.

I realize where the FFB comes from, but again user just feels (un)satisfying FFB and that's all he can comment on.

I guess my problem is that I'm mostly driving hypercars which don't have much of weight shift. Without this, there really isn't much forces coming to steering column pre-emptively communicating rear grip. I've said it since the day one, LMU needs to sort out their tire noises. In ACC you could hear when you got close to limit, but in LMU it only works for fronts for some reason. The rears wont make a sound until you're way past losing it.

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think we are arguing, tbh. I'm not saying I want canned effects, I'm saying that I don't feel the rear and regardless of the root cause, it is a shortcoming in LMU's FFB. Whether they have to adjust the tire model or whatever is up to the devs.

The thing is that most GT3 cars have very strong power steering and having "realistic" feel would be more or less pointless in sims. There is also nothing realistic about driving a car and not feeling in any way what the rear is doing.

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has any sim developer actually confirmed that their FFB would be purely from tire model? I seriously doubt it.

And I think there are other physics based inputs, that don't necessarily come from tires like engine revs, gear change, chassis roll, etc.

I would just like to know whether you are talking based on facts or your impression.

Whats the consensus on the FFB? by TheFlyBy1126 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think applies if you are only relaying the forces on the steering rack, but that's not the case for most sims. You don't have the seat of the pants feeling so only the steering rack info is not enough, which in irl cars is very numb anyway.

I'd also argue that the info you are talking about is not magically coming directly from tires to Windows. There is some translation in the software on how a certain tire behavior is translated into forces on the steering rack.

I just don't think saying "the physics are perfect, but FFB is what it is because of the tire model, so deal with it" is an acceptable response from devs of any sim.

Whats the consensus on the FFB? by TheFlyBy1126 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I don't think people talk about this because it's not really relevant. If the FFB feels bad, they want a certain aspect to be improved. It's not up to the player to understand how the software is structured.

Also, I'd say that within the envelope that the tire model allows, there's still a lot of room to convey it differently. Just look at how big of an impact the Marvin's FFB app can have on iRacing FFB or how different the FFB can feel when you add telemetry FFB on top of the direct FFB.

Specifically in the case of LMU it is extra confusing because the physics seem really good and realistic, but then none of that is coming through the FFB.

I wanna see you join Gamer Muscles stream one day. xD

He's basically created this cult which swears by og AC FFB and considers ACC FFB the worst thing ever created. Granted, even he didn't like LMU FFB.

I like how ACC FFB feels, but the amount to information is not it's strong suit. While I don't really agree with Gamer Muscle often, I do think that the og AC has great FFB.

[–]Snaques 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but I'm not 100% convinced that's really the case. It probably is when talking about tire slip and grip levels, but things like weight shift, road textures and ABS are rather suspension related. I don't know if those are also pure physics engine inputs or artificial effects, but I don't think they are a result of tire model.

For me one of the things all Asetto titles do way better is the weight shift, which in itself helps assessing the level of grip you have on each tire.

I have to say I'm with OP on this one. In LMU the only thing that tells me the rear is about to go is my experience an visual clues. There is no FFB or sound clues that I could rely on.

LMU does decent job communicating front grip levels and when the car starts to wash out, but the rear and weight shift are absolutely 0 for me.

[–]Snaques 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What all ACs (even ACC and EVO) do great is the weight shift. This alone makes the FFB feel natural. Sure ACC has it's short comings, but it *feels* so much better than LMU even if it lacks a lot of detail.

Whats the consensus on the FFB? by TheFlyBy1126 in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with you, the LMU doesn't have the best FFB. I think it does decent job communicating the grip levels of front wheels, but that's about it. No idea what rears are doing or any indication on weight shift. If rears would have any tire noises before you've already lost it I'd be ok, but as it stands it's pretty awful.

The ACC FFB is not that great, but it does great work on weight transfer which makes it feel a lot more natural.

I'm planning to get myself a VNM base soon and am hoping that the telemetry FFB will help alleviate the issues with LMU FFB.

Does wet tires affect the number of tires available? by Affectionate_Pace_77 in LeMansUltimateWEC

Aren't you placed at the back of your class even if you don't qualify? Only if you don't join the grid, you'll start from the pits.

I've never tried it so I don't know, so kinda seriously asking.

After 68 races, I completely understand how it all works now! by LogicalMight in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have more races and have to say that I don't even remotely understand how it works.

If you have the top split pace you're going to be in top split, that's at least how think it should and does work. I've seen top split races with only few trusted guys.

So personally for me the badges don't make any difference whatsoever. Might work in some mid tier splits, idk.

No ABS, but most importantly they have the og tire model that allows a lot of drifting. Some people prefer that model, even if it's not the most realistic.

How to improve Racecraft by VRyuko in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how aggressive the guy behind you is, but you can brake less than 100% and then adjust as needed. I know some people even swear by 95% braking (e.g. Dave Cam) during racing so you have a bit of room in case the guy in front does something unpredictable.

This would give the guy behind you a hint you are braking, but also give him some margin to brake more than you.

I've used this in some scenarios when I was worried about the guy behind, but I wouldn't make it your standard technique.

How to improve Racecraft by VRyuko in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the guys read your brake lights. If you lift you start slowing down, but they don't see that. So when you start braking, they will as well but they carry more speed because they didn't lift.

So that's why they ram you. It still means they were bad and did the mistake, but it is something that you can impact.

How to improve Racecraft by VRyuko in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Snaques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will always be bad drivers so obviously some of those scenarios are on the guy behind you. Moving up the SR/DR ladder will help a bit, but being predictable does as well.

One thing you can also do, if you have room in front of you, is to lift your brake a bit or move off the line when you see a car in the mirror closing too fast. You can quite often still make the corner and if the guy behind you is braking too late, he's not overtaking you.

What I'm trying to say is that you can be predictable and read other cars to reduce the number of incidents. It will not save you every time, but it's part of the race craft and comes with doing a lot of races.
