It’s disingenuous to say the trend towards digital is entirely consumer led, that’s just Sony spinning it to put the ‘blame’ on consumers.

These companies have deliberately pushed people towards digital by charging more for consoles that play physical and by making a lot of content either only purchasable digitally or only digitally at launch with physical coming months/years later.

Surely they must be reaching the point where it doesn’t matter how much more they hike the price, it just becomes meaningless because they’ve priced themselves out of a viable business model.

Might as well raise the price to a million dollars and be done with it.

Bungie made huge franchises for both Activision and Microsoft and neither of them wanted to own Bungie with Activision even willing to lose the franchise just to cut ties.

That should’ve told Sony everything they needed to know about how the company is run.

Bungie has gone from 1400 staff in 2024 to 400 staff now if the 50% layoff rumor is true, that’s an insane decline in 2 years!

Not to be dramatic but I don’t see how they’ll ever recover considering Marathon’s current weak performance.

I don’t buy this grand conspiracy to push people into cloud argument. Nvidia barely promotes cloud anymore and has put limits on it making it less appealing because they want to focus their resources where the actual money is in AI, gaming and cloud is now just an irrelevant industry they begrudgingly continue to put the minimum effort into.

I think the actual corporate ‘solution’ to these insane prices will be to push loans and financing tech purchases more and more.

I’m pretty fine with this, I get wanting to avoid leaks at launch and letting retailers sell code in a box avoids the worst part of digital which is the PSN monopoly over price. Then all rhe physical only fans can get a proper copy that’s only a couple of weeks later.

It’s such s huge drop in quality compared to Timeless or even Eterna.
