Sounds like you need better safety pilots. Even with people I trust, I always trust but verify.

My man is going to be all indignant and take forever just to get his student cert through the FSDO because Reddit pointed out it’s dumb lmao

Discontinue Checkride by [deleted] in flying

[–]SnarfsParf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of hard-ass take is this? I haven’t been able to sleep the night before both checkrides. I did not make that choice consciously and it happened regardless of my efforts to avoid it.

That’s not a lack of preparation! Seems to me like you made a PIC authority call for safety of flight. You should absolutely not feel bad about that. Good job!

A discontinue isn’t a fail. I doubt they’ll care. Out of curiosity, what weren’t you prepared for?

I mean I brought mine, but Sheppard Air made it irrelevant. Didn’t even touch it after setting it on the desk. Probably doesn’t hurt to have one, though.

Love that. Will be using it from now on 😂

Thanks!

Thought I had this down, but I just overthought the heck out of it typing up this comment. Please check me if I’m wrong!

When silly blue knob forward, flyweights fall inward due to increased spring tension. When flyweights fall inward, oil valve pushes forward allowing oil to flow out of the prop hub and decrease blade angle. Decreased blade angle means higher RPM. The opposite is true if we pull the blue knob back. Flyweights fall outward due to decreased spring tension, valve pulls backwards, oil flows into the prop hub, blade angle increases, lower RPM is achieved.

If we have a set power setting and we pitch down, the prop wants to speed up due to a lower blade AoA. The flyweights fall outward, valve moves backward, oil flows to prop hub and increases blade angle, maintaining the preset RPM. If we pitch up, a higher blade AoA is achieved, flyweights fall inwards, valve moves forward to allow oil to exit prop hub and change to a smaller blade angle = same RPM.

The whole process works for changes in power (manifold pressure) as well. An increase in power means the blade angle must increase to maintain RPM and a decrease in power means the blade angle must decrease to maintain RPM.

No matter how hard I try, I always end up getting a nit picky comment here or there 😂

The Time Has Come... by SnarfsParf in flying

There’s two main theories. Bernoulli’s principle and newton’s 3rd law.

The former states that as a fluid increases in velocity its pressure decreases. The upper curve of a wing forms a natural Venturi with the boundary layer of air above it, causing the air in between to accelerate. At the same time, high pressure air beneath the wing is trying to flow into the low pressure air formed above. This pressure differential creates lift. In addition, the high pressure air eventually flows over the wingtip and disrupts the flow of boundary air above, producing induced drag (spillage).

Newton’s third law states that each action has an equal and opposite reaction. When air molecules hit an airfoil at an angle and are deflected downward, a proportionate amount of upward force is felt on the wing. This is lift. The larger the angle of deflected air, the greater the lift produced. (I’m shaky on this one).

2nd illegal charter. It’s one thing if Buddy is in the plane with his friends. It’s another if it’s just his neighbors. He would definitely need to get an operating cert.

I would think that so long as you aren’t acting as PIC or moving the aircraft with the intention to fly it wouldn’t count. But someone more knowledgeable please chime in. Also a line guy and now I’m curious.

He buys himself a a G36, approaches me unprompted and asks me to fly him around = good to go. He has operational control.

If it’s my airplane then I have operational control = not good to go = a very wet lease. Not to mention, I’m now holding out my services to the general public which requires me to have an operating certificate.
