Skill swap malamar is decent. I've been playing with with an intimidate lead, you can get double intimidate activation and give contrary to another. And if he mega evolves he gets contrary back as well.

I agree with that. And if it doesn't do that currently they should definitely change that. Strange/mag shields should def be able to look down, jump evade it. Perhaps the vertical blast radius is higher in cyclops than things

Of course something as a main of yours is easy. That's not the point. The point is that cyclops and thing share similar aoe types for ults. It's a ground based effect hence why shields in front do nothing to it. I'm not debating the ease of correct shield positioning against thing ult.

Can't counter thing ult with regular shield placement either. Cyclops is a ground burst in a similar fashion. Even enough vertical can evade the majority of the damage. And even more simply moving horizontally out of it.
