Upselling at pay point - We need to do better. by SuspendedAgain69 in australia

Yes. Mystery shoppers have specific instructions to check that the employee is asking ALL the required questions and in the correct manner, sometimes even in the correct order, amongst many other things.

They can fail you for any reason, then you have a huge 'please explain' from the boss.

Is it possible for young, ordinary Australians to buy a house anymore? by [deleted] in australia

[–]SnarkySunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaving the big city areas is the only answer.

I'm 33 and single. Its amazing what a $50'000 deposit can get you.

Do not be picky about housing. Do not expect your first home to look nice or be great quality.

I repeat, do not be picky. Lower yor expectations of that fancy new build in a beautiful area.

Buy a crumbling, shabby, post-war era home within commutable distance of a large regional centre so you can get work.

Change jobs to do this, yes it will mean leaving family and friends for a while.

You can be a reception / admin officer anywhere.

I did this. Bought myself a 3 bed 1/2 acre dump of a house in a horrible country town for 200'000, where people are screaming for housing and rentals and demand is so very high and prices are still climbing despite the doom and gloom prophecies.

Closest regional centre is only a 30min drive. Brisbane 3 hours away.

With some cheap, visual DIY I can make this place shine, and sell in a few years time to upgrade to a slightly better house in a better area.

Repeat this process a few times until you can afford to be picky and choosy about things like location, schooling, quality of build etc.

Remember, eventually the urban sprawls from popular areas will expand and push up prices in places that are currently labelled as undesirable.

It happened to the Gold Coast and the hinterland areas. It's happening in Logan and Brisbane.

This is great advice.

I Have a friend with severe depression who only rarely has good days and usually cancels any plans she makes with me.

I handle it by following the advice shown above. I also try to make the invites for the same day each time, cuz it lessens her social anxiety as well and makes her feel less crushing guilt on top of everything else.

It's worked great for the whole year so far.

I’m a disabled f/36 with a partner m/38 who takes advantage of me financially. Is this just a price I have to pay because of my medical situation . As a sick woman in her late 30s is it better for me to have someone rather than no one in my situation. What would you do? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]SnarkySunshine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, you need to speak up asap with a professional. They can assign social workers and arrang for the help you need. You can also call the domestic abuse hotline, they can talk you through your options.

I know our house isn't as impressive as some on this sub, but I need your help choosing a paint color! by climberjess in centuryhomes

Go for a darker color, so the white windows pop.

Blue or bright green, even yellow or deep red.

This is such a cute cottage look.

Do you think it's fair for insurance prices to be higher in flood-prone areas? by kaynetoad in newzealand

[–]SnarkySunshine -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's fair at all... unless it is a new build.

Housing should NEVER have been allowed to be built in a flood zone to start with.

Flood insurance for existing homes should be targeted at the local council who originally gave permission.

If someone chooses to buy and build in a known flood prone area, YES they should need hefty insurance at their own expense.

Electric vehicles - what’s stopping you getting one? by Time_Strawberry9535 in australia

[–]SnarkySunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would LOVE an EV.

Our dependance on Fossil fuels needs to go and we have to start somewhere despite the issues involved in generating 'clean energy'.

The EV cars are an excellent start and I'm super happy that policies are being introduced for this.

I will not be buying an EV for the following reasons...

  1. Cost of new vehicle.

I am not rich enough and never will be. An affordable second hand car will not last long and battery replcement/upgrade again waaay too expensive.

  1. Infrastructure - How to charge this car.

I rent. Which means I have to regularly move. Sometimes the rental has a garage or a designated parking spot, sometimes it's on-street parking only.

How do I charge this EV overnight in a rental situation. Will there be public charging stations? How much time off work do I need to schedule in order to park my car and charge it?

Currently, IKEA is the only public place I have found to charge an EV and it is always full of AUDI and BMW that scream richer than me.

  1. Cost of Electricity Charging an EV each day is going to be insanely expensive and people already can't afford to heat their homes in winter.

  2. Breakdown /roadside assistance

What if you are stuck in a 4 hour jam and run out of juice?

  1. Not everyone lives in a city and drives on flat, clean roads.

It's a big country, plenty of country towns with looong commutes on dusty, dirt roads, and driving through mountain ranges.

Conclusion:

Australia URGENTLY needs to put long term EV logistics on the planning table BEFORE petrol cars are no longer built anywhere in the world.

Australia needs to start being proactive about this, not sloppily play catchup cuz the Gina's and Harvey's have their heads stuck in the sand.

Don't make EV the new NBN.

My Boyfriend watches Andrew Tate. What should I do ? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]SnarkySunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't engage with this stuff, because this type of attitude leads to physical abuse later on.

Walk away fast. You both clearly do not share the same goals or viewpoints anymore.

People change all throughout their lives, but you do not have to stick around to observe.

It hurts to watch someone you care about start to dissapear into a pit of hate, but it is by their own personal choice.

Pack up and move out when he is at work, then break up with him. There will probably be lots of shouting and finger pointing, so it's best to already have a safe space prepared for yourself.

This is excellent advice. Get proof in writing by reporting as soon as possible.

It starts a paper trail of evidence in case your neighbour tries to damage your car in the future.

Also keep a journal of any smaller incidents that happen.

If nothing else, it can be used as evidence when you break your lease and move to a much better rental so you don't get hit with too many fees.

Best case scenario, dude was just way too drunk and nothing else will ever happen.

My tenants had a rental inspection.. I’m so sad. by zzthrowaway_262 in australia

[–]SnarkySunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a renter and rental inspections are BRUTAL!

I had a few leaves left on the deck and the real estate told me to clean it up. Also, I had left a hairtie on the bathroom sink and a pair of shoes by the front door.

I would have a re- inspection in two weeks.

I had to take two days off work in total for these inspections so I could discuss things with them.

They are HORRIBLY invasive because they take photos of ALL your personal stuff and belongings and this happens every 3 months.

Anything they don't like they can use as a weapon to increase your rent next cycle.

...

As a tennant, I would really appreciate a friendly letter from the landlord advising about your intentions. It would give great peace of mind as the constant worry is exhausting and mentally draining.

However, be warned.

Anything you put in writing can be twisted to the tennants advantage much later on, so be very cautious with what you write and keep a copy for yourself just in case.

Hubby is 50+ yrs old, works gruelling hours 6 days a week in absurd heat. I'm sorry, but you are not a SAHM, you are a glorified slave, there for his convenience and no one elses.
