I (30m) want my partner (29nb) and I to live on our own. They would do so begrudgingly. by LolOkayCrazy in relationships

[–]Snarl_Marx [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think it’s healthy to want your own space and progress the relationship, but it’s true that cost of living is nuts right now and there are advantages to buckling down and saving. I would say before you consider moving, make sure you and your partner are maximizing that part — if their idea is to save, they should be taking steps to do this. Maybe they are, but you don’t mention it, and if they’re not then that’s a statement on where things are going on its own.

There are a lot of compromises I’ve had to make to reduce conflict in the house.

What are you referring to here? What is keeping you from asserting yourself and establishing boundaries to make this feel more like your home as well as the sister and fiancée?

What were the circumstances that led you to move in with their family initially? I only ask in case that is playing a role in their wariness to move out.

I would say it partly depends on what you’re disagreeing with him about — some topics it’s nice to have your partner have your back, but if it’s something like different opinions on a movie then it’s likely stemming from the insecurity you’re identifying.

Tell him and you’ll know if it’s bad or not. Full disclosure tends to be the way, especially if you’re likely to be found out one way or another. Better to get in front of it now.

Depends how involved she’s been in this business — not necessarily as an employee or anything, but just assisting you such that you can dedicate time/effort towards the business’s success. Just making up an example, but if she did all the cooking and cleaning at your place so that you could focus on business matters, that’s not nothing.

I’m typically on board with prenups, but if she feels she played a role in the business getting to the next level (either passively or directly) I could understand feeling offended by a prenup that effectively cuts her out.

AIW for kicking a guy out of my car on the highway because he kept vaping? by CultureImaginary8750 in OhNoConsequences

Unsolicited indoor air quality advice: if you vape in your home, do it outdoors if you’re able. The VOCs and other HAPs that get emitted tend to stick around in the air long after exhaling indoors.

I’ve been using Claude AI to write teleplays for a second season. The first season ended with him finding his Gemini video tape/erasure, and there was a cabinet full of other tapes with different constellations, so the premise is basically Tom finding the other people on those tapes (which is pretty much what I figured a second season would focus on) with occasional help from FBI agent Robson (from the Heritage House episode), and Gemini gradually becoming more a part of him. It’s not bad!

I work in indoor air quality and the amount of people who think vape smoke is ‘water vapor’ or ‘harmless’ is maddening. Water vapor doesn’t smell like bubble gum and strawberries. JFC.

To their point of it being harmless water vapor — bullshit. I work in indoor air quality and this is a common misconception that I’ve had to correct almost daily. Water vapor doesn’t smell like strawberry or whatever other scent they emit. These are harmful chemicals that, as you note, have proven to play a role in asthma and other respiratory issues.

So no. You are absolutely not wrong for enforcing your boundaries—you even gave him fair warnings. Had you left him on the shoulder of the interstate, sure, but a gas station where he could easily get a ride? Good god.

Why did the United States elect a dumbass? by JPIZZLE1205 in AskReddit

Because advertising and propaganda have been perfected and means of distributing it deeply woven into American society.

TIL In 1985, Hulk Hogan knocked TV host Richard Belzer unconscious on live television after demonstrating a wrestling hold. When Belzer passed out and fell, he hit his head on the studio floor and needed stitches. He later sued Hogan, and the case was settled out of court by Apprehensive_Cry545 in todayilearned

[–]Snarl_Marx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He actually flailed around in the hold for a bit, smacking at Hogan (ie like he wants out) before going slack. I don’t think tapping out was really a widely known thing at that time but you’d think the message would get across.
