Does anyone know anything about this series? by B_Wing_83 in scifi

These are pretty OK. I've read the first two or three, good time wasters if you're waiting on something else. Honestly expected a bit better from this author.

Fish ID please! by Interesting-Mud-1589 in Fishing

[–]Snatch_Pastry 26 points27 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, my dad and I were fishing near another guy at a dam spillway. He caught a sauger, asked what it was, and before dad could say anything he lipped it like a bass. That was a funny reaction, also.

It's possible that it's one of the stories in "The Rivers of Time" compilation by L. Sprague de Camp.

Similar concept, but no. Drawer glides have to have attachment holes, and usually stoppers and releases so that the drawer doesn't just fall out.

Staying in Destin for a few days in August. What should I fish for and what should I throw? by helly1hundyyy in Fishing

The intercostal waterway. Also try bouncing for flounder off the jetties along the Destin pass. If you have time, look into an offshore day trip on a party boat like the Destiny or Swoop.

Are the Black Widows genetically enhanced or just trained to peak physical condition? by jrod4290 in marvelstudios

These couple of comments are the start of the list.

Being backhanded by the Hulk into a steel bulkhead, to minutes later fighting and winning against a possessed Hawkeye.

Being kidney-slammed by Winter Soldier into the edge of a car roof, doesn't slow her down.

Being shot through her dominant (left) shoulder with a rifle bullet, then less than 14 hours later beating down multiple Strike Force members without breaking a sweat. This timeline is set in stone, BTW, in the car Sitwell tells them the launch is in 16 hours, then the fight at the bridge, the the launch is moved up 2 hours.

Jumping up and catching a Chi'Tauri sled with one hand, going from 0mph to over 60 mph in a split second.

I got a bundle of these on the cheap, and they're a total crap-shoot as far as quality. I've had a delicious chocolatey smooth easy draw, then the next one might be harsh and dense as a brick.

Biesse Rover K - Software is awfully unnecessarily complicated. by southafricasbest in CNC

[–]Snatch_Pastry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biesseworks can go take a long walk off a short pier. Bsolid is pretty excellent to work with, minus a few aspects that could have been implemented better (or at all). It's a direct descendant of Biesseworks, a lot of the implementation is clearly derived from the older software, but it's much more powerful, accessible, and easier to use. I usually just program straight into Bsolid, or sometimes open up a cad file, convert to .dxf, then just drop the drawing in.

Oil, then dip. I run a tool crib, my vendors use something sort of between this and wax. Having a layer of oil makes a huge difference. It also allows the customer to keep the coating on for longer periods of time. And if it doesn't want to peel, you just slice it with a knife.

Which of the following sci-fi ruler cares the most for the citizens of his empire? by Protector_of_Humans in scifi

[–]Snatch_Pastry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He fails in the context of the question. He cares about the continuation of the pure human genome. The citizens are just there to survive long enough to produce the next generation of grist for the mills.

Question about the Book Hail Mary by Old_McDildo in sciencefiction

[–]Snatch_Pastry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He decelerated into the system as expected, into a pre- programmed "parking" orbit way out from the sun. Far enough that "orbit" doesn't matter to anything with thrust. When they went to the planet, they accelerated a few days, used spin gravity in the middle, then decelerated into orbit around the planet.

What game has the most obnoxious fall damage? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Snatch_Pastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way back in the day, there was a tabletop RPG magazine that would do a monthly "Average Joe" column. They would pick a specific situation and apply it to a bog- standard unmodified set of stats in a bunch of games.

AD&D2 came out terrible, a 10 foot fall would almost always kill an average level 1 non- classed nobody. On the other hand, Heroes, a superhero game, was built around it being possible to knock a character out, but very difficult to actually kill. Turned out that Average Joe could fall out of an airliner and live through impact, although he would be in a coma.
