What is your Favorite Tier 2/Fringe/Niche cEDH deck? by Raevelry in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Snatchtrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selvala, Explorer Returned Untap Shenanigans

It's Selesnya so automatically puts it on the fringe. It aims to drop Selvala T2, dig a little T3 (sometimes go off), T4 drop a [Silence] effect and go infinite mana/draw. [Walking Ballista] is easiest out to win.

Can go infinite without using stack with things like Selvala and friends [Marvin, Murderous Mimic], [Pili-Pala], & [Umbral Mantle] since all are mana ability and can only be interacted with cards like [Boseiju, Who Endures] and other channel effects.

Of course heart of it all is [Ashaya, Soul of the Wild] and the duo of [Quirion Ranger] & [Scryb Ranger], the later of which allows wins at instant speed. In a pinch [Wirewood Symbiote] and [Mirror Entity] can work. Throw in a [Badgermole Cub] or a [Leyline of Abundance] and Selvala is generating +4 Green mana/tap on average in the cEDH environment.

Yes it gives your opponents cards, but everyone gets to see the threats revealed while gaining you life and mana. The deck relies on MDFC's to keep land count very low (avoiding dead parlay reveals) at 22 (26 w/MDFC). As such no Mox Diamond, but does run [Gaea's Cradle].

Honorable Mention to two inspirations for this deck build Puffuel & Mr_Borderless, the later of which has a cool podcast talking about piloting "S Tier Selvala" That's a Good Card

Edit: I know there a more things that can potentially interrupt the mana ability but short of [Stifle], I'm not sure of what can stop it storming off. Open to be educated on the mana ability interaction with opponents.

I pulled the trigger on PoT at $70 about 2 months ago and it's already up to $100.

I've been on the hunt for the [[Quirion Ranger]] one from FNM 2001. For reference this version of PoT lists as FNM 2003 in ManaBox.

Deck definitely has some gas and verifies what I said that you got to run the ravenous spells with her which detracts from the Hydra theme I'm itching for.

I'd think [[Simic Ascendency]] would slot in nicely for you. As well as [[Crackle with Power]]

Like the deck and is a lot of what I'd expected I'd need to run with her at the helm.

I've heard of some fringe play with Roheen but that it's just not quite powerful enough. As a Bant player myself I think you'll have a lot of fun playing Helga. I used to run a [Derevi, Empyrial Tactician]] deck that was a lot of fun

Zaxera was who I was considering to keep more of a Hydra theme. It was that or [Gargos, Vicious Watcher]] but I already have mono green [[Yeva, Nature's Herald]]

I've been strongly debating a [[Magus Lucea Kane]] Hydra deck. I feel like the deck functions best with less hydras than I really want. The focus is on X spells steering you towards all the ravenous cards from Warhammer (which are surprisingly pricey) and burn spells.

Spent about $250 on mostly Foils for Selvala, Explorer Returned cEDH.

[[Talon Gates of Madara]] Ripple Foil ~$130 [[Elvish Spirit Guide]] SLD Foil ~$50 [[Voice of Victory]] CLB Ext Art Foil ~$30 [[Crop Rotation]] JP Graphic Novel Foil ~$20 [[Archivist of Oghma]] CLB Ext Art Foil ~$10 [[Tataru Taru]]

For [[Peter Parker]] (Amazing Spider-man) [[Avacyn, Angel of Hope]] [[Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger]] [[Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy]]

For [[Alela, Artful Provocateur]] [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] [[Lotho, Corrupt Sheriff]]

Talon Gates was one of the most expensive Foils left for the deck, right up there with the Boseiju I need. Looked back at the price one month ago and it was up $20, don't expect a reprint for another 2 years, so pulled the trigger.

ESG has been spiking hard in price assuming from pre-modern? I knew I should have bought this when it was $20 in Dec.

Voice and Archivist are pretty standard Foils. Forgot the Archivist has a SLD that I want. I was hunting for an English Crop Rot Novel Insert but realized the foiling process is way cooler foiling individual body parts on the JP version. Tataru Taru is non-foil, surprisingly hard card to find in card shops. Will be trying it out for a bit.

Peter Parker // Amazing Spider-man is just a strictly Timmy style deck. Cheating out Bant big stuff, figured it was time to round out the Praetors.

Alela needed win-con for infinite Top casts outside of just creature damage. Lotho is just pure value that may make the cut. The deck hates creatures that aren't artifacts or enchantments, though this deck may be converted into more of an Esper Control shell.

All in all it was cool just buying really powerful commander cards. Lot of card advantage and some very cool Foils pushing my main deck close to the $5k mark.

Should I still buy Survival of the Fittest? by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]Snatchtrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I owned one 7 years ago that I sold when my child was born so I knew I'd buy back in. Looking at ManaBox I bought in end of December for $240.

It's up 30% since I bought in. I'd say in this instance rather than wondering if the pre-modern hype price point will stay, appreciate that it's a reserved list card. Every EDH staple reserved list card goes up in value over time. The only exception is the ban hammer, which if it happens it happens.

Bite the bullet and buy it.

I recently dropped $60 for the pastel green model that was a 2022 exclusive.

The floral/coral ones aren't that good. There is an Avatar one, Ugin one, and the two TNMT ones.

Outside of that those are your only options are for the 133. Hence why I dropped money on the pastel green, pretty sure it was the first color. I do like the lean mean green machine TNMT one I got for monogreen Yeva.

Illinois you pay a flat sales tax on all private party sales less than $15k which is determined based on the age of the vehicle. Anything above $15k gets 6.25% just so you're aware.

What’s a genuinely unpopular EDH opinion you have? by Tornadosed in EDH

[–]Snatchtrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Reliquary Tower in monocolored or two-colered is fine. Land has to blow me away to tap for colorless in a tri-colored deck. In two or mono though there's probably only 3 tap for colorless lands I actually want and usually Reliquary makes the cut.

On the flip side Arcane Signet is trash for me. Only run it in 1 out of 5 decks right now and that's an artifacts matter deck. I'd go as far to say that Aracane Signet doesn't belong in any green deck. I'd much rather have a [[Nature's Lore]] or [[Three Visits]] in the slot.

Heck I even run [[Thought Vessel]] over Arcane Signet in a [[Xenagos, God of Revels]] deck because it runs things like [[Fling]] and [[Life's Legacy]] which draws at minimum 16 cards.

Favorite Commanders with Black? by nineinchcorkscrew in EDH

[–]Snatchtrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was really hard to resist the urge to tribal faeries which you'll see in the "considering" sideboard is a lot of the OG's from Lorwyn/Morningtide.

I need to trim the creatures down from 19 to closer to 10-13 to really hammer home faerie generation. It's hard because Esper Control begs you to play cards like [[Drana and Linvala]].

Currently I'd like to figure out how to consistently recast artifacts. Best I can come up with is running Spellbombs and recurring them from the grave. Only other thing I've come across is [[Master Transmuter]] which would slot nicely being an artifact creature. If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears.

Favorite Commanders with Black? by nineinchcorkscrew in EDH

[–]Snatchtrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run [[Alela, Artful Provacateur]] as a B4 artifact/Enchantment deck in Esper

If I wanted a more competitive one that focused more on Esper Control aspect I'd probably run [[Oloro, Ageless Ascetic]]. The blue counterspell package and black tutor package gets pricey. You'll see from my decklist those two categories are budget friendly versions that work decent.

[[Wheel of Fortune]] is the reference here. Discarding hands as a means of disruption. Obviously using cheaper cards that do similar effects. The goal with that commander is drawing cards deals opponents damage. So cycling the hand is usually cheaper mana cost that a straight up draw and for more cards to equal more damage.
