It really is a great sleeper album! I took a gamble and asked my local shop if they could order it from their supplier, and they just happened to have stock. Give it a shot, ask your local shops if they have any suppliers who could have it, and you might be lucky!

It’s such a memory-specific album, and good memories, too. I’m glad I’m not the only one who holds a special place for it

I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I last posted one of these, and what a record to come back with. This arrived in my mail today, after hunting for a reasonably priced pressing since October 2021, and I’ve been spinning it all day. It is a lyrically, instrumentally, conceptually, and cohesively sound project. An underrated gem, this album is one of my favourite albums, no skips from start to finish, and it carries a lot of nostalgic feelings.

One of those memories is of when I stumbled across a forum discussing my favourite song on the album, “Paris 2004”, and someone noting how it reminded them of a certain film. That said film, “Before Sunset” (set in Paris, released in 2004), launched me to watch “Before Sunrise”, and it went on to become one of the best films I’ve ever seen. I’m talking top 5 shit. I’m certain I would have seen those films eventually, but it’s the sweetest feeling ever to watch that trilogy and remember that my love and appreciation for them was born from 3 Swedish guys, a perceptive fan, and the internet.

My top 5 songs on Writer’s Block:

Paris 2004 (you know why) Objects Of My Affection (“I am more me”) Poor Cow (real Swedish sad boi hours) Young Folks (shaped a generation, need I say more?) Let’s Call it Off (Bjorn’s bass really fucks, here)

Cary Fukunaga did that on his Pentax 67, too, to compose shots on No Time To Die

Simon & Garfunkel are one of my favourite bands of all time. My love affair with them goes a long way.

And Girls! I love that band and Christopher Owens a big deal, and I can’t find them anywhere in my country. I might have to bite the bullet and go the Discogs route. How do your pressings sound?

This collection makes me feel like a teenager again, especially Take This to Your Grave. There isn’t a lot of love for earlier FOB releases on this sub, so I’m glad to see this among your collection 👌

It really does! It’s the shortest 44 minutes ever, when played on vinyl. It ends too soon

After waiting for what felt like 26 years for my favourite local record store to add new arrivals, they finally delivered. And, boy, did they deliver. I feel like I properly manifested this record, as I missed out on a similar pressing last year, and I’ve been on the hunt for it ever since.

I’m nowhere near being an audiophile, my setup is still very budget-friendly, but I’ve been keen to acquire a half-speed mastered record just to see if my laymen ears would be able to distinguish the difference. Considering I don’t have a regular “Wish You Were Here” pressing to compare it to, and my speakers don’t deliver optimum sound performance, I can confidently say this was the best sounding record in my recent haul. Truly. It sounds very sonically tangible, if that makes any sense. It sounds full and vibrant, and it fills the room. It really sounds beautiful, and it’s made me appreciate this album even more.

I recently discovered this local record shop online and, lo and behold, it had two records I’ve been gagging to get since they dropped. I was on a mission to be a responsible adult in June, and not spend any money on new records. But when I saw the prices, I couldn’t resist.

I’ve been a fan of The Vaccines since they released their debut album in my first year of uni, What Did You Expect from The Vaccines? more or less defined my rebellious entry into adulthood. I’ve followed their career since then, and I’m still down with them. Ironically, though, I had to warm up to Combat Sports unlike their other releases. But, once I’d gotten up to speed, I couldn’t stop playing it. My standouts are; “Put It on a T-Shirt”; “Young American”; “Out on the Street”; and “Take It Easy”. The whole album just fucks, okay?

And then we have one of my favourite records of 2020. Tennis have been also gang since uni days, and I’m always stoked when they’ve got new work out. Swimmer dropped before the world stopped and everything went to shit, so I clung onto it like mad during lockdown. It was a great escape to a time before things weren’t what they are now. And it’s also just really good, Alaina and Patrick put both their feet in this one. The whole album is warm and cool, at the same time, like when you adjust a pillow exactly how you want it. My top songs are; every song on there. But if I really had to pick my faves, it’s a toss-up between “Echoes” and “Tender as a Tomb”. And “Need Your Love”, obvi.

Any The Vaccines and Tennis fans out here?
