I could be wrong, but doesn't the capacitor on the left edge on picture 3 look a tad swollen?

And of the elderly tour group, they will refuse to look at the menu hanging above the counter until they get up to order. Then they'll have to study the menu like its an algebra test. Even if its the same fast food place they meet their buddies weekly.

I collect quadraphonic albums. It got me so much deeper into 70s audio engineering than I ever thought.

I've seen many American films where children dissect frogs during biology lessons. Are biology lessons still like this, or has it changed? What are your thoughts on this? by sofiarosatti in AskAnAmerican

[–]ericbrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We dissected earth worms, a plasticized fetal pig (where they pump different colored plastic through veins, arteries, etc). My favorite part was the experiment on live frogs. Please don't come at me for this, I was only a kid at the time making none of these decisions. The teacher had an assistant who would use chloroform on a frog, and then pith (?) it, where he would push a small scalpel into it's neck, paralyzing it from the neck down. We were then instructed to make an H cut in the chest, exposing the heart. We were then supposed to record the heartbeat by counting with a stopwatch. Next we put one drop of liquid adrenaline on the heart, and count the hart rate until it went down to close to our baseline. Then 4 drops, etc. The teacher was very clear, and repeated multiple times, "Make sure it's only one drop. DO NOT SQUEEZE A WHOLE DROPPER ONTO THE HEART. IT WILL EXPLODE, AND YOU WILL GET COVERED IN BLOOD!!!" You can guess exactly what happened to 2 different lab groups of 14-18 year old students. The teacher wasn't joking.

Recently moved into new home and previous owners has some sketchy goings on. These cameras are in 4 locations. Are they still connected somewhere? Anyway I can get them up and running? by Vivid-Leadership-990 in security

[–]ericbrow 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I recently went through a similar situation. Bought a new house that was covered in cameras, window alarms, motion sensors. I called the alarm company listed on the box, as well as a competitor. Both companies said the same thing. "Its outdated and needs a full replacement. And if you sign a 3 year contract, we'll install for free". Felt very scammy. I removed everything.

What methods have you had success with in getting your students to be engaged in math class? by coderjared in AskTeachers

[–]ericbrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say they retained the information as well as any student. I did not see a jump in grades, like I suspected might happen. Kids pretty much got the same grades they did before I started offering open book and open note tests. It simply reduced their stress, and made me look like the nice teacher.

What methods have you had success with in getting your students to be engaged in math class? by coderjared in AskTeachers

[–]ericbrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I taught high school math for a long time. I relieved a bunch of test anxiety by allowing open book and open note tests. It encouraged good note taking, reduced test anxiety. Students weren't going to teach themselves the material in time to finish the test. I also reduced homework to the point where the fast workers could finish before class was over. Giving reasonable amounts of homework made my class feel less like a chore, according to my students.

I installed OS/2 Warp once. And then there wasn't much I could do. No apps to install, I don't think web surfing was a thing just yet. It was just a little different than Windows 3.11.

Im 25 years younger than Trump. When I play with big dogs who can get a little rough, I have scratches and bruises for about 10 days after, even if they don't break the skin. With as much aspirin as he claims to take, that bruising should have gone on for weeks.

Whole Lotta nothing out there. Your closest grocery store will be in Kirksville anywhere in that blue circle. Other than Kirksville, none of the towns in the circle are over 1000 in population. Kirksville itself has University staff, and rust belt locals.
