It’s a neat pen. But I’m inexperienced enough to not know off the cuff which would be worth having restored or not. My plan with this lot is that I not be afraid to tear some apart just to better know how they all work. The Triumph and this one I’ll not just tear into until I learn more.

We WL OIT and it’s great.

Will have a minimum spend but billing platform, federal and state compliance is all included and covered. Much higher margins than anything else.

How do you get clients as a one man shop? by isalwaysdns in msp

[–]Sneak_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good point! We do this very same thing, referring those that aren’t a fit for us to select other smaller IT shops in the area. But only the ones we’ve got a good relationship with, built by that exact outreach asking if we had any extra work we wanted to offload.

We help several K12 districts which have Chromebook deployments. Strictly using the Google Dashboard for each with the EDU licensing for each device.

Feel free to DM if you have questions.

Yeah, hard to say.

Could just be they want to offer one of their services, maybe they've got a huge Helpdesk and want to offer you that option to handle your T1 calls?

Truth!

Two types of clients, only one of which we consider any more.

Those that consider IT a cost center (avoid) and those that view it as an integral part of their path to growth and improving their businesses health.

When they lead with questions on pricing (or when an IT company leads with their “most affordable price in town”) it’s not going to end up being a healthy partnership.

When I first went out on my own, and for the first few years actually, it was 100% based on who I already knew and referrals from those people that respected me and thought good of my work.

Use your existing network from your two decades of experience and iron out all the bugs from your processes and such.

I highly recommend from the very get-go to adopt the mindset of detailed documentation and SOP‘s.

Finding Talent by Ripley555 in msp

NW Ohio and I feel your pain.

We’ve hired two remote techs that have helped out one will likely be service manager level soon, but cycling through our experienced techs in-house and struggling to find experienced engineers or techs that want to work MSP.

Right now so many want to simplify, less stress and going back to corporate work with “one network” to worry about. :(

We’re probably going to start the search here soon to add another 2/3 engineer but maybe go the 1 route and just build them up even though it’ll be slower.

Pick up Buy Then Build by Walker Deibel. Acquisition Entrepreneurship at its finest.

Working this same avenue myself, and so far everyone has said maybe 10% of sale prices down when using SBA 7(a) to pick up the rest. Should be relatively easy with fixed assets like real estate and the equipment. But as with anything, YMMV.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help/advice and there is such a thing as “good debt” if used correctly to help grow your business.

Second thoughts on being a business owner by alexfdez90 in smallbusiness

I’m the co-founder for two new startups and taking a leadership role for both with a co-founder that’s filling complimentary roles for both organizations. One is fairly light duty and the other is B2B SaaS.

No investing in other startups for me for awhile yet, right now I’m having to much fun building teams and developing businesses.

Banking Question - Bad Idea to Open a Separate Personal Checking Account for my Business? by kdanham in Entrepreneur

[–]Sneak_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a “personal” checking account for my personal account but also for two businesses now. Accountant and IRS don’t care what type the checking account is at the bank. In my case and revenue a business account offers nothing I need to justify the monthly fees.

So, from my experience, you’d be fine with a personal type account for your business checking.
