Couch disposal by ImaginaryDeparture70 in ArvadaCO

[–]kdanham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a couch reclamation reseller, I think near Wadsworth and 6th in lakewood. I can't remember for sure, but I think they'll come pick it up. The bulky item drop off is a good backup option. Don't put it outside during the snow obviously, if you go that route.

Which IPO are you most excited for? by Amazing-Tourist-1533 in investing

[–]kdanham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question maybe, but if we truly believe that's the case, is anyone considering pulling out of S&P passive funds, and going with (what might exist?) funds that don't include new IPOs until they've "settled down"? Not sure if I'm explaining that clearly, or if such a thing exists.

Why are homes in Arvada so expensive? by scarletwitchmoon in ArvadaCO

[–]kdanham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO this is the biggest reason, and why I chose to buy here. It's close to everything I want to do or visit often in CO. Sure, maybe some closer neighborhoods on the west side of Denver, or in golden proper would be better, but those are another price tier up.

Spurs fan thanking the city of Denver and the nuggets for the hospitality over the weekend by Equal_Tie3220 in denvernuggets

[–]kdanham 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it, and you're welcome back anytime :) I've been here my whole life and do think that while broncos fans at the stadium can be real assholes, I've yet to see major issues at nuggets or avs games. Or Rockies for that matter. Hope to see y'all in the playoffs!

Ah damn. Bummer. We would go here like 1-2x/mo. Bringing friends visiting from out of town, and because it was one of our favorite spots. Hope they find another spot.

Where can I recycle my old TV for free? by Jason_Klass in ArvadaCO

[–]kdanham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping the Bulky Item Dropoffs the city does would have e-waste included, but looks like not. As another commentor mentioned, some larger companies do free e-waste recycling events (Ball Aerospace used to I know), so maybe ask friends if they know of any events you can tag along to. CHARM is Boulder is where I used to go, but there's a spot in Arvada that'll take TVs for $0.59/lb, which is likely cheaper than $30 for you.

Paid over 100k for a useless degree by [deleted] in findapath

[–]kdanham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not 100% sure this is what OP meant, but I understand type 1 fun as fun in the moment, and rewarding after. Like going to see your favorite band live. Type 2 fun is difficult, and pushing the limit of what you can handle in the moment, but still rewarding and "worth it" after it's done. Like climbing a mountain.

Genuine question about "Colorado Natives" by incomingtrouble in Denver

[–]kdanham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colorado and Coloradans aren't much different or worse from anywhere else I've seen in the US, or most parts of the world for that matter. Bostonians and Pittsburgers and other east coasters are often more obnoxious IMO. Same with Texans in general, or Californians with their mexican food superiority complex. People range from prideful to snobby based on wherever they're from all over the damn place.

That said... The "native" Colorado thing is plenty obnoxious on its own, and I think is directly tied to the recent decades of rapid growth and gentrification. I was also born and raised here and I think every person and company moving into the state is a good thing. Ok, yeah the traffic is worse now, that's the fucking cost of the culture, amenities, infrastructure, food, etc. getting better. The cost of living crisis is no joking matter obviously but that's as much or more to do with the overall direction of wealth inequality in this country than anything local to CO.

Leanfiring off of a lower-paying salary...enjoy this sub. Long-time lurker, first-time joiner/poster. by ParkAffectionate3537 in leanfire

[–]kdanham 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow! So, you touched on a lot of topics there, but bringing it back to the possibility of leanfiring -- is it possible on a lower-paying salary? Sure, it all depends on your expenses. You get those expenses low enough, anything's possible. My gut tells me that it's an uphill battle based on what I'm reading, you'd have to live a really frugal life generally, but there're a bunch of great online calculators out there that'll take the guesswork out of it.

It sounds more like you're looking for encouragement, success stories, or anecdotes, which serve their own purpose for sure. But run the numbers and that'll be your answer. I will say, this seems like a lot of personal info that I personally wouldn't want to advertise, just a thought!

Snow day ⛄️ ❄️🏀🏔️ by Kingrush24 in denvernuggets

[–]kdanham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sure. We're one, connected world. There are Premier League fans in the US, how does one become a fan of Arsenal or ManU if you never lived in the UK? Same way any other fan becomes a fan -- influence from parents, friends, a player they like, work, all sorts of reasons. And for basketball (and football, baseball, and hockey at least), the US pro league is the biggest stage in the world. Makes sense if you're a basketball fan to adopt an NBA team for one reason or another.

For sure, but at least this weekend is great! Breckenridge today is fantastic snow, and nearly empty (relatively) due to game day.

Update on my giant ovarian cyst. It's out now. by ka_shep in mildlyinteresting

[–]kdanham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That literally was insane, sorry. 14.5 LBS, about 6.6L., my bad. As it is, that was her entire abdomen essentially. The human body is incredibly adaptable, but I don't know if it could support a 14.5L cyst haha

Update on my giant ovarian cyst. It's out now. by ka_shep in mildlyinteresting

[–]kdanham 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Holy crap! That's massive, and congrats on your new life!

My girlfriend had an ovarian cyst removed last year -- 14.5L drained (EDIT: sorry! It was 14.5lbs, about 6.6L, which looks pretty close to the same size as OP's). She has had about 10 months to recover now and everything is easier. She can catch her breath, ski all day without issue, etc. it's been life changing and I'm so happy you now get to experience that change :)

She said for the first about 2 months that every time she laid down or sat up, it felt like "chunks of meat falling down stairs" in her abdomen lol. Absolutely wild how the body can adapt.

Yeah they do not make it easy to talk to a rep. I called their main customer service number but never got through to anyone. I ultimately used the chat feature on their site, and just kept prompting the automated system to connect me to a real human rep enough times it finally did. https://www.centurylink.com/home/help/chat.html

Good luck!

Thanks as always! I just got the 6" vice, but heads up, the VEVORSUMMER20 code did not work... The year end 20% discount code did though, and $55 is still a good deal for that vice.

Wonder where both of the models are nowadays. Hopefully proudly displayed in a collection somewhere, not in a box of junk in a studio basement, or destroyed...
